That, I think, is the ultimate proof that antisemitism was far from being unique to Germany at the time. It is (and always has been) pandemic, and in fact much worse in some countries outside of Germany. The fact that holocaust was carried out there is merely a matter of historic coincidence. Same thing could have happened everywhere, and I won't even go into the plentiful assistance nazis received in occupied countries. Did you ever hear of a fellow named De Toqueville? He was a Frenchman who visited the US in I believe the 1830's. He kept a careful journal of his observations of how Americans behaved, what they believed and thought, which he published. It has been in print ever since and is still looked to and cited for insight into the American character, not withstanding the fact that it is over 170 years old. His journal is not dismissed as history because he had such a keen eye, and certain fundamentals of the AMerican character have not changed. Orwell was one of the most insightful observers of pre and Post War European politics. His insights are certainly worth reading his analysis and considering the extent to which it is still relevant. But it would be an enormous error to simply dismiss someone of Orwell's stature as irrelevant because he didn't write publish in yesterday's London Times.
