NEWNATIONS BULLETIN 2ND DECEMBER 2009

OBAMA's judgement is made on reinforcements for AFGHANISTAN. We expected much focus on strengthening the Afghan National Army but we seriously challenge the idea (in detail), that just recruitment and western trainers are 'the solution,' without profound political and other re-organisation, of what is not yet seemingly understood to be a very troubled institution.
Our new report on the AFGHAN ARMY is right on the button.

IRAQ is planning an election within weeks and it looks like an upcoming shambles.

The British Enquiry into the IRAQ invasion ("like a fireside chat between members in a Pall Mall club,") is under attack for its lack of cross-examination and 'bite,' and failure to include the testimony of the middle ranking 'hands-on' managers.

We ask if the new EU Foreign minister will be allowed to ‘work out’ a solution to the vexed international problem of TURKEY's entry to the EU, since no-one else will?

TAIWAN's economy is at last on the 'up. 'Elector's views are soon to be tested about the 'lurching towards Beijing,' democratic deficit.

LIBYA: this month's report, seriously warns investors (who don't have to) about doing business in this wildly eccentric, dangerous 'absolute monarchy.'

NORTH KOREA is being visited by important 2nd Tier US representatives, plus the French connection, Jack Lang, special emissary for President Sarkozy; also, Why we ask, do so many N. Korean diplomats get caught doing big-time smuggling?

SYRIA this month gives an up to date summary of where peace efforts re Israel/ Palestine have reached (nowhere). But also more promising developments re SYRIA.

The critical INDIA-PAKISTANI-US current relations are summarised here.

IRAN and the Nuclear Threat. We examine who currently has the strongest 'hand'?

If PAKISTAN is not "Failing" then a new word is needed to describe the situation.
