Iraq War Was Illegal Dutch Inquiry Rules 'The war in Iraq had "no basis in international law", a Dutch inquiry found today, in the first ever independent legal assessment of the decision to invade. In a series of damning findings, a seven-member panel in the Netherlands concluded that the war, which was supported by the Dutch government following intelligence from Britain and the US, had not been justified in law.' UK's Anti-Terrorism Legislation Censured 'In a unanimous ruling, the European Court of Human Rights condemns Britain's anti-terrorism legislation arguing that it disrespects the private life of an individual. All the seven judges censuring the UK legislation said that police searches, without reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing, breach the complainants' right to their private life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, its statement said on Tuesday. That the police are empowered to search the person's clothing and personal belongings, and having personal information exposed to public view, amounts to a clear interference and could also cause "humiliation and embarrassment" to the individual, noted the statement.' Now Tests Show the Ice ISN'T Melting: Sea Water Under Shelf in the East Antarctic is Still Freezing 'Sea water under an East Antarctic ice shelf showed no sign of higher temperatures, first tests showed today. Despite fears of a thaw linked to global warming that could bring higher world ocean levels, tests conducted on the Fimbul Ice Shelf showed the sea water is still around freezing point.
Thanks to sensors, lowered through three holes drilled in the shelf, scientists have discovered the water is not at higher temperatures widely blamed for the break-up of 10 shelves on the Antarctic Peninsula, the most northerly part of the frozen continent.
