On Wednesday (Feb. 24), the Armored Corps Chief Officer, Brig. Gen. Agai
Yehezkel, spoke at the graduation ceremony of the Armored Corps basic combat
training and the Tank Commanders' Course. "We have recently witnessed the GOLDSTONE REPORT
We have recently witnessed the
, which questions the ethicality and morality of the IDF. I
find it important to emphasize that we, the commanders, are not confused by
the report. We are not embarrassed," said Brig. Gen. Yehezkel, and stressed,
"We do not have a problem facing criticism, when it is topical. You - the
graduates, your parents and you families - will be the unequivocal reply to
this report. Those graduates testify more than anything to the education on
ethics, the sense of volunteering and morality."

Brig. Gen. Yehezkel also spoke about the security situation in the North of
Israel. "A wind of tension is blowing again in the North of the country.
Despite the fact that the challenge might be more difficult than during
Operation Cast Lead, we are prepared for it." He also informed the audience
that the Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, recently
concluded the investigations of the Armored Corps' actions during Operation
Cast Lead, and stated that the operation achieved its objectives and
implemented the lessons learned during the Second Lebanon War.

"The State of Israel finds itself in sharp tension between the reality of a
developed and advanced country that tries to maintain normality, and the
continuous need to struggle for its existence, since its establishment. The
IDF is the guarantee for its safety and it is a strong and powerful army
that can face all challenges," Brig. Gen. Yehezkel emphasized, and praised
the Amored Corps' advanced and precise techniques during Operation Cast
Lead, saying that they constituted a significant part of the operations.

Brig. Gen. Yehezkel thanked the graduates and their families, and added a
prayer for the safe return of the Armored Corps soldier Gilad Shalit, who
has been in Palestinian captivity since June 2006.
