Talkbacks (7)   Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Monday lashed out against politicians who had criticized him last week over what they perceived as diplomatic misconduct with Syria, calling them “losers who lost the election.” “As the Jewish state, we extend a hand of peace - but faced with war, we must be determined [to emerge victorious],” he said at the onset of a faction meeting at the Knesset. “There is no need to talk of compromises, we must liberate ourselves from the obsession with land in exchange for peace. Those who lash out today against me and Israel Beiteinu are losers who lost the elections,” he added in what was mostly likely an allusion to opposition party Kadima. Lieberman went on to speak of his party’s guidelines and principals. “Coalition agreements needed to be honored, including the bill allowing civil unions,” he said. “Our word is [a valid] word, we make every effort to keep our promises, even though we will not succeed by 100 percent.” The foreign minister also spoke of the efficacy of his diplomatic efforts, which, he said, have the potential to bear the fruits of an agreement. “Palestinians prefer to negotiate with [former Meretz MKs Yossi] Sarid and [Yossi] Beilin than with [Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu and Lieberman, but what Sarid and Beilin would give them would never have won public support, while a deal reached by Netanyahu and Lieberman would be supported by 90 percent of the public,” Lieberman ascertained.
