Option ARM-ageddon - Part 1

ARM-ed but under siege... By the middle of 2003, the GSEs and the capital markets (agency MBS and private ABS investors)—along with an extended period of low long-term interest rates—had rendered the savings and loan (thrift) industry nearly obsolescent. The ARMs in which they specialized—indeed, as mentioned above, the only type of mortgage they could really hold in portfolio—were increasingly eschewed in favor of the certainty and security provided by fixed-rate mortgages (FRMs). Full article
