Muslim Terror, Trains, Planes and Automobiles

Radical Muslims have struck again, with a new terrorist atrocity aimed at killing the maximum possible number of civilians. Scroll down for the China Confidential coverage, which began within minutes of the horrific attacks. This blog was the first to report that terrorism was suspected in the Moscow explosions and to pinpoint Islamist Chechen separatists as the prime suspects, following the recent bombing of Russia's Nevsky Express passenger train--which U.S. President Obama referred to as a "tragedy" in line with his policy of appeasing the forces of fascistic political Islam.

Perfidy! Where normal people see people movers, Muslim terrorists see people killers. Across the globe, the terrorists target and use trains, planes, and automobiles (car and truck bombs). From the the early morning destruction of the twin towers in Manhattan to the twin bombings in Moscow's Metro--at the peak of rush hour--radical Islam has struck, over and again.

And our leaders still refuse to name the enemy.

Where ordinary Americans see terrorists, Obama and his helpers see "extremists" and "manmade disasters."

Where regular folks see terrorists, the Obama-adoring liberal media see "militants."

Whereas the common people rightly cry out for victory over an enemy whose name they know and dare to say aloud, condemning their crimes as inexcusable, the political and intellectual elitists reflexively dig for "root causes" and call attention to alleged "legitimate grievances."

Whereas everyone in the civilized world knows that radical, right-wing Islam, also known as Islamism, has declared and is waging war on civilization as we know it, the government of the world's greatest democracy persists in pursuing irrational political correctness to terrifying degrees.

Whereas it is clear to most of us that there is no meaningful difference (in terms of the threat to our way of life) between the Saudi Wahhabis who produced Bin Laden and the Iranian Shiite fanatics who created Ahmadinejad, our so-called leaders, led by the Appeaser-in-Chief, don't see it that way at all. They connect dots, alright--to find new ways to blame Israel. Its resistance to radical Islam, Israel's determination to survive and grow and prosper in the midst of a sea of barbarism and backwardness, offends the appeasers and enrages the fifth columnists--and their friends in the liberal media.

Heaven help us.

CONFIRMED: TWO FEMALE SUICIDE BOMBERS HIT MOSCOW METRO; 36 DEAD, DOZENS INJURED

Senior Russian officials say terrorists from the troubled Northern Caucasus could be behind two deadly explosions that ripped through Moscow's subway during morning rush hour on Monday. Female suicide bombers are suspected of carrying out the bomb attacks that killed at least 36 people and injured dozens more.

The blasts occurred during the morning rush hour in central Moscow. The first was at the Lubyanka metro station near the headquarters of the Russian State Security Service, known as the FSB, the successor to the Soviet KGB. The second came 40 minutes later at the Park Kultury station near the city's well-known Gorky Amusement Park.

In a televised Kremlin meeting, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov said preliminary information indicates the first device contained the equivalent of four kilograms of TNT, the second up to two kilograms. Bortnikov also shared a possible motive.

The security official says the FSB's preliminary version of the attack points to involvement of terrorist groups from the Northern Caucasus. He says his agency will consider this the working version, because body parts of two female suicide bombers found on the scene link them to the Northern Caucasus.

The deputy speaker of Parliament, Alexander Torshin, told the Interfax News Agency the choice of Lubyanka was not accidental, because FSB agents come to work through the station.

Torshin also pointed to a connection in the Northern Caucasus, noting that the bombings could be in retaliation for killings announced this month of two prominent Islamic rebel leaders in the region. Both were allegedly linked to Doku Umarov, an Islamist leader in Chechnya wanted by Russia on charges of terrorism, kidnapping and murder.

No one has claimed responsibility, but the last suicide bombings in Moscow six years ago were blamed on separatist rebels seeking Chechen independence.

Russia has fought two wars against Chechnya since the 1990s - the latest effort to quell regional separatism since it was conquered by Russia in the 19th century. Residents of Chechnya and other Caucasus republics complain of widespread corruption and unemployment. Many come to Russia in search of work.

Ordinary Russians have also been quick to blame the Northern Caucasus. VOA interviewed six metro passengers at random, and each pointed to the region as the likely source of the attack. Olga notes many workers come from the Caucasus to Moscow in search of a living, but earn relatively little compared to long-time residents of the capital.

Olga says the newcomers get the least desirable jobs, earn no more than $600 a month and must work every day like a slave. She notes many Muscovites earn five times their wages.

Russian authorities have opened hotlines for relatives seeking information about victims. Criminal psychologist Mikhail Vinogradov at the independent Psychological Assistance Center told VOA his organization is being flooded with calls from people seeking expert help to cope with the trauma. Vinogradov, a retired Interior Ministry official, says it is very hard to defend against terrorist attacks.

Vinogradov says Russian special services stop about 350 terrorist attacks a year, but given such a massive threat, it is impossible to prevent them all. He says people should know that fact, adding that authorities are doing all they can to prevent terrorism.

Moscow's already crowded street traffic ground to a halt in many places as subway passengers sought other transportation. Russian news reports says taxi drivers raised fares sharply and many people simply walked to their destinations.

ATROCITY: MOSCOW SUBWAY SUICIDE BOMBINGS

BREAKING NEWS ... AP is reporting the Moscow city prosecutor says at least one of today's rush hour subway blasts was a suicide bombing.

A cell phone may have been used to trigger the explosion--or both blasts.

Scroll down for earlier China Confidential coverage of the terrorist atrocity, which was timed for the peak of rush hour in order to kill the maximum number of civilians.

RIA Novosti says it was told by a police source that the blasts bore all the hallmarks of "a well-planned terrorist attack."

China Confidential analysts believe the twin bombings were carried out by Islamist Chechen separatists.

As of this hour, central Moscow is at a standstill, and helicopters are being used to evacuate the injured.

BREAKING NEWS: MOSCOW SUBWAY EXPLOSIONS

TERRORISM SUSPECTED

1:30 AM UPDATE: AT LEAST 41 KILLED. TWO BLASTS CONFIRMED.

Death toll in explosion at Moscow's central Lubyanka metro station rises to 25--TASS, quoting Emergency Ministry spokeswoman Irina Andrianova.

The huge blast occurred at 7:50 AM on Monday, during rush hour, when thousands of passengers were packed onto trains.

Andrianova says the dead include 14 people who were in the train's second car where the blast occurred and 11 people who were waiting on the platform of the station.

A second explosion happened at the Park Kultury station, about 40 minutes later, Russian news agency Tass reported.

Suicide Bombings Suspected

Interfax says the blasts may have been caused by suicide bombers.

The headquarters of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), the successor to the Soviet-era KGB, is located just above the Lubyanka station.

Today's explosions follow the Islamist bombing of the Nevsky Express passenger train last November, which killed 27 people and injured 90.

As China Confidential reported in December, the bombing of the Nevsky, a Moscow-Saint Petersburg luxury train that is popular with businesspeople and tourists, raised fears of a resurgence of Islamist terrorist attacks in Moscow and other major cities.

Russia was hit hard by Islamist terrorism in the 1990s and the early years of this decade, but the violence has largely been confined to the predominantly Muslim North Caucasus region since 2004.

Sixty people were injured in an attack on the Nevsky Express in August 2007. Fifteen people were injured in the 2005 bombing of a train headed to Moscow from Chechnya, and a suicide attack in the Moscow metro killed 41 and injured approximately 120 in 2004.

North Korea Issues New Warning

Bloomberg reports:

North Korea said the U.S. should force South Korea to stop its moves to “disturb the security and order” in the Demilitarized Zone, according to the official Korean Central News Agency. If the U.S. and South Korea continue their “wrong acts to misuse the DMZ for the inter-Korean confrontation despite our warnings, these will entail unpredictable incidents including the loss of human lives in this area for which the U.S. side will be wholly to blame,” KCNA said in a statement today, citing a spokesman for the Panmunjom Mission of the Korean People’s Army of North korea.

Understanding the Turkish Threat

An increasingly openly Islamist Turkish government is pursuing a neo-Ottoman strategy, as explained here.

That Iran and Saudi Arabia honor Turkey for aiding the "Islamist nation" should send shock waves through the U.S. foreign policy establishment.

Not so. The Obama administration is facilitating Turkey's Islamist tilt.
