Election season is upon us. Now is the time to pray and act, that Jesus Christ might be known and honoured in our land. Today we bring you four news items for your urgent attention and action! Westminster Declaration Click here to see Peter Saunders, Christian Medical Fellowship, explain the Westminster Declaration and what you can do to help. Over 22,000 people have now signed the Westminster 2010 Declaration. This is a very important opportunity to press home some of the issues that are important to Christian voters. We’d love to have 100,000 signatories before the general election. Therefore, please: · Sign the declaration at www.westminster2010.org.uk · Download and print copies, take them to church and encourage others to sign, including church leaders. · Contact your candidates and press them to pledge support – contact details for candidates in your constituency are available atwww.yournextmp.com. Prime Ministerial Debates The first of the televised debates takes place tonight on ITV (8.30pm) with a focus on domestic affairs, including the family. Please: · Submit questions TODAY (by emailingdebate@itv.com), perhaps asking whether the leaders will pledge support for the Westminster Declaration and how, if elected, they will protect freedom for Christians to speak of and live out their biblical faith in every area of life (see recent media reports about the marginalisation of Christians). · Consider participating in the accompanying Facebook and online chat discussions – see www.itv.com/electiondebate for more information. Senior party representatives to answer questions from Christians · The ‘Christians and Candidates 2010’ initiative is giving Christians an opportunity to ask questions of senior representatives from the three largest parties. The event will take place at7pm on Monday 26th April in central London. Please plan to come if you can – the venue will seat several hundred and this is a very important opportunity to demonstrate that Christians care deeply about issues at stake. · Please email info@christiansandcandidates.org to register interest. Constituency hustings chaired by Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali begin The first hustings event chaired by Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali will take place on Tuesday 20th April at Oxford Town Hall (7.30pm start) for the Oxford West and Abingdon constituency.
