The new Enchanted Spear artillery rocket allows accurate hitting of up to ten meters from a target

Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI) has developed an artillery rocket with
a precise 40 km range. IMI reports that the new rocket, the Enchanted Spear,
is able to hit a target with a precision of ten meters. The new device also
includes a directive system based on GPS, and an advanced navigation system
which is based on a miniature rocket engine.

In February 2010, IMI carried out a fire trial with the Enchanted Spear at a
range of dozens of kilometers which achieved impressive data: The rockets
hit very precisely, up to ten meters from the target.

During the last few years, the necessity for artillery aid to ground forces
has become clear, especially during Operation Cast Lead whereby the IDF
fired 7,500 shells as part of the ground firing forces’ operations. The
Artillery Corps is planning on upgrading the accuracy of artillery shells in
the near future. In the meantime, an officer of the IDF Army Headquarters
explains that the IDF can be expected to purchase precise artillery rockets
in the coming years.

The Enchanted Spear rocket is fired from the Pounder launcher, which was
recently developed by IMI, and according to the company is considered to be
at the technological forefront of artillery rocket launchers. The rocket is
able to carry battle heads of different kinds, which can be adapted to the
operational needs; it is also constructed to hit and destroy targets on the
ground, such as artillery batteries, headquarters and infantry centers of
the enemy.
