New York and its transport system are on terror alert after an incendiary device in a SUV parked in the heart of Time Square on a busy Saturday night failed to explode. Police shut down an entire block to examine a smoking vehicle containing a device of propane, burnt wires, gasoline and detonator, from which a "mini-explosion" was reported. The FBI is running checks with counterparts worldwide, including Moscow, London and Israel, to try and match up the device as a lead to the perpetrators.
