'A massive effort is underway to clean up the damage left behind when a Chevron pipeline leaked up to 21,000 gallons of oil into Salt Lake City waterways Saturday. Crews capped the site of a leak, which was spilling oil into Red Butte Creek. As of 4 p.m. Friday, officials said they had the flow slowed to just two to three gallons per minute. Chevron officials have confirmed the pipeline was shut off around 7:45 a.m., but warn residual oil was still leaking at the fracture point.'

'Greece will eventually default on its debt because the country is highly indebted, Carl Weinberg, chief economist at High Frequency Economics, said on CNBC this morning. A restructuring of Greek debt could happen as soon as August, when Greece is due to receive another tranche of funds from its lending agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Union, according to Weinberg.
You can’t take a country that’s over-borrowed and make it more creditworthy by lending it more money,” he said. “They’re throwing Greece further and further and further in the hole by not addressing the problem directly and properly".'

'Is it possible British Petroleum is the law in Louisiana? Check out the man in the video below who insists he has the right to prevent the media from interviewing workers hired by BP to clean up its mess on the beach. BP says workers have permission to talk with the media, but it would seem after watching the video they are under instructions not to talk to the media if they want to keep their jobs in this jobless economy.'

New York Gov. David Paterson is warning that if he is forced to shut down government next week chaos and anarchy will rule in the state. “No one knows the full ramifications of a government shutdown,” said Paterson. “It would create unimaginable chaos around the state and the greater metropolitan areas,” reports WCBS TV. The legislature in the Empire State has failed to pass a budget and this will result in doomsday, according to Paterson.'

'A good Washington DC contact told me that a public relations/media push to demonize those who decide to walk away from mortgages they can still afford to pay (aka “strategic defaulters”) is underway. Expect to see a good bit of moral fervor as those who choose to cut their losses are attacked as immoral, irresponsible, and abusive.
There is a wee problem with the “blame the ruthless borrower” narrative. Banks who acted in a ruthless manner have trained their customers to behave the same way. This shift in prevailing attitudes is the logical and inevitable result of financial firms taking an increasingly predatory posture toward their customers. Borrowers are responding in kind, by taking a cold-blooded and legalistic look at their agreements with lenders.'

'Kyrgyzstan is an important hub for distribution of Afghan heroin to Eurasian markets, "a business that had multiplied in times under the NATO guardianship in Afghanistan." "The town of Osh, the ‘southern capital of Kyrgyzstan’, has long ago become a major cross-point for the Great Heroin Way..." Creating chaos in Kyrgystan seems to suit the drugs trade.
It also suits the USA which does not want Kyrgyzstan to become a strong and stable partner of Russia.'

In a farmers field in Tennessee, birds arrive by the thousands. Gathering to woodland areas and power lines. This behavior is not typical to standard fall migration pattens. Could this be a direct correlation with the gulf oil spill; a vision of what is to come for mankind?
