MEMRI Flotilla Coverage: U.S. Citizen Ken O’Keefe: We Used Violence in Accordance with the Principles of Mahatma Ghandi
The following excerpts are from an interview with Ken O’Keefe, a U.S. citizen who was part of the “Freedom Flotilla.” The interview aired on Press TV on June 7, 2010.
Ken O’Keefe: "Those of us on that ship applied the principles of Ghandi, and I challenge everyone in this world to look at what Ghandi said, because Ghandi made clear that between cowardice and violence, he would choose violence. We acted only in violence because of self-defense. That's it.
[...]
"As much as I believe in nonviolence – and I so much believe in nonviolence – it was right for us to defend ourselves, and to use force where necessary to defend ourselves. There is nothing wrong with that. In British-occupied India, Ghandi called for it, and people under Ghandi applied the same tactics. This is a modern-day version of Ghandi. "

Following are excerpts from a speech delivered by Libyan Leader Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi, which aired on Al-Jazeera TV on June 13, 2010.
Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi: "The organization that supervises the soccer World Cup, FIFA – the International Football Federation, is the most corrupt organization in the world. It has corrupted the world. We must show no mercy or respect to FIFA, because it has harmed the world and has corrupted its values.
"FIFA has embarked upon a new policy of human trafficking. Slavery has returned, after it was banned by the Berlin Conference. FIFA has brought slavery back.
"How come the small, poor countries – numbering almost 200 – are denied for all eternity the option of hosting the World Cup? Only rich countries get to host the World Cup. We, the small, poor countries, have the right to host the World Cup, just like any other country."
