Compliance policies are unlikely to win competition fine reductions, says OFT

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) will not reduce fines for competition law breaches for companies just because they have compliance policies in place. The consumer protection regulator said that such a policy is only sometimes worthy of a discount.

Ireland publishes proposed data breach notification rules

Irish organisations which lose the personal data of more than 100 people will have to report the data security breach to the authorities, according to new rules proposed by that country's privacy regulator.

BSkyB and EDS settle IT dispute for £318 million

Broadcaster BSkyB will be paid a total of £318 million to settle a dispute over a contract that it entered into 10 years ago with IT supplier EDS. The amount includes interim payments made to BSkyB of £270m that were ordered by the High Court in February.

Government will publish details of IT contracts within weeks

All new Government contracts will be made public from next month as part of the Government's bid to increase transparency. Prime Minister David Cameron has written to departments informing them of the change.
