1. Photographer Abused By UK Police For Exercising Basic Rights
As I have written before about the police and demonstrations and specifically about photography, one of the worst repercussions of the anti-terror legislation is the blanket powers officers wrongly think it gives them to hassle people when they fancy it. Confronted by the police for doing precisely nothing wrong, this young man admirably stood up for himself and maintained, rightly, that he was entitled to take pictures in a public place. The police, as they have done so often in these cases, bullied and hectored him under imaginary "powers". This case is symbolic of the wider shift in power that has lamentably taken place in this country, with strength shifting from the individual to the state. The fact that you are probably unsurprised on reading this piece is telling in itself. I hope that the National Union of Journalists rallies to this brave young journalist's defence and bring a case against the police for their disgraceful behaviou r. Listen and watch the footage - the police behaviour is quite astonishing.

2. UK Metropolitan Police - Out Of Control Racists
Barely a week after figures reveal that black people are seven times more likely to be stopped and searched than white people, the Met Police release figures suggesting that black communities commit more crimes. In the past five years alone, the number of black and Asian people being stopped by the police has increased by over 70 per cent, according to Ministry of Justice figures. In November 2009, a report by the government’s human genetics commission, led by Professor Montgomery suggested that the police were routinely arresting people in order to add their DNA to the national database. Professor Montgomery acknowledged that the disproportionate numbers of black males on the national DNA database was “undeniable” and that large numbers of people were only on the database because they had been arrested – not because they had committed a crime. The disproportionate number of stop and searches on black men and the disproportio nate number of black male profiles on the DNA database do not point to higher levels of criminality among black communities. Home Office figures from the Offending Crime and Justice Survey show that only 28 per cent of black people have committed a crime in their lifetime, compared with 42 per cent of the white population. This is why the figures now released by the Met Police should be viewed for what they are: a desperate attempt to justify their agenda of targeting and criminalising the black community. The newly elected coalition government urgently needs to place tight reins on a police force that is clearly out of control.

3. Parents Of Vaccine Damaged Children Arrested
Eight parents from five provinces whose children fell ill after receiving improperly stored vaccines were arrested Monday for protesting outside the gate of the Ministry of Health. The parents met outside the gate of the Ministry of Health, located near Xizhimen subway station, at around 10 am Monday, where they stood until noon, demanding to meet Chen Zhu, the Minister of Health. "Seeking justice for my child," read one of the cardboard signs held aloft by the parents. Each parent has a child who became ill after receiving a vaccination. Yi's 15-year-old daughter was diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis after receiving the A and C groups of the meningitis vaccine in December 2006. Another parent, Gao Erqing has a 2-year-old daughter who fell into a coma shortly after receiving a hepatitis B vaccine in May 2008. "We demand those responsible be brought to justice by the ministry," said Yi Wenlong, who al so came to protest on Friday.

4. Tel Aviv Court Subpoenas Merck Scientists Who Allegedly Knew About Vioxx Dangers
The Tel Aviv District Court saw evidence yesterday in the class action suit against Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., the manufacturer of the arthritis drug Vioxx. Two researchers allegedly admitted in e-mail correspondence that the company had known that long-term use of the drug increased the risk of heart disease and had continued to market it. District Court vice president, Judge Drora Pilpel has asked the attorney general to have the two scientists subpoenaed. On September 30, 2004, Merck announced it was recalling the drug in 50 countries, after a study it conducted showed that the risk of heart attack and stroke doubled in people using Vioxx for at least 18 months. Later in 2004, six patients submitted a class action suit in the Tel Aviv District Court in the name of Israeli Vioxx users, calling for compensation for "those who used the drug over the past four years and paid good money to ingest a drug which, in retrospect, turned out to be de fective and dangerous." The two American scientists who exchanged the allegedly damaging e-mail are Dr. Edward Scolnick, former Merck research chief who left the company in 2002, and Dr. Briggs Morrison, a former Merck senior scientist, who left the company in 2007.

5. Psychiatric Drugs Proven To Cause Suicide
The purpose of this investigation - a report based on data from the National Board of Health and Welfare - has been to find data about the preceding psychopharmacological treatment for all persons who committed suicide in Sweden 2007. The serotonin theory of depression is comparable to the masturbatory theory of insanity. Considering the results presented in this report, It’s not “more psychiatry” – more psychiatric drugs – that is the solution. Politicians, trying to surpass each other in demanding more funds for a psychiatric industry that only means more “treatment” with psychiatric drugs, should know that they directly contribute to harming people and to the creation of more “results” of the sort presented in this report. Subservient nodding and voting when psychiatric opinion leaders require changes in law, so that people can be drugged with force in their homes, and so that “drug treatment without exceptions” can be given for people with mental problems, only lead to an increase in the psychiatric results described. This report clearly shows one thing: A large majority of persons committed suicide after having had “adequate drug treatment” – in the meaning used in psychiatry; the very treatment that should prevent suicide.
