Atomic Ayatollahs?
We consider the question of rogue nuclear states and ask if Israeli paranoia is driving the Iranian nuclear scare.
N. Korea: Back from the brink
A warship sunk in peacetime. No culprit suggested except North Korea, since there is evidence of a N Korean torpedo. The Russians have separately investigated and their view is that it was a mine, perhaps left over from earlier wars. But whilst that would be a convenient explanation, there is less evidence than that for the torpedo theory. South Korea’s president is in a fix to determine appropriate action.
Libya BP and al Megrahi:
We revert to our earlier coverage of the release of the only convicted suspect in the Lockerbie murders by the Scottish government. The sequence of events was that al Megrahi first withdrew his appeal against conviction, where he had every possibility of his verdict being overturned . After that, he was granted compassionate release. We look again at the connection between these events.
Greater Russia coming together
Back in 1991 our RUSSIA EXPRESS in the time of Yeltsin, asserted that the Russian Foreign ministry faced with the loss of the Soviet Union, had set out on the path of creating a Slavic Greater Russia. We look now at how well they have succeeded.
Kosovo Free at Last
The International Court of Justice legitimises the breakaway state but that only means anything if there is widespread recognition. The outstanding states who haven’t and probably wont recognise them, mostly have potential or real breakaway problems of their own.
Afghanistan: The beginning of the end
Terms and timing of departure are beginning to dominate the Afghan story.
Just how dysfunctional is Pakistan?
No one can doubt that it is important in current world affairs, but what shape is it in?
Iran:
A considered view. Looking calmly - otherwise than through the prism of the Israeli lobby-influenced, western media.
“The Theft of Decency”
Will the Philippines ever become a truly democratic nation? It is perhaps a century overdue. This rigidly Christian republic in the Pacific has flunked all previous ‘efforts.’ Now a new President offers new hope.
Taiwan: Stitched Up:
Doing business with China.
‘Duch’, Pol Pot and S21:
Was Cambodia of the Khmer Rouge humanity’s lowest ebb?
Turkey & Israel : The aftermath.
What comes next –can diplomacy save the day? Is anybody trying?
Kazakh’s Royal Family:
It is of course a sort of republic, but of the monarchical kind.
Azerbaijan & Armenia
