Bank of England Tells Savers to Stop Moaning and Start Spending

'Older households could afford to suffer because they had benefited from previous property price rises, Charles Bean, the deputy governor, suggested. They should "not expect" to live off interest, he added, admitting that low returns were part of a strategy.

His remarks are likely to infuriate savers, who are among the biggest victims of the recession. About five million retired people are thought to rely on the interest earned by their nest-eggs. But almost all savings accounts now pay less than inflation.'

Outrage of Man Forced to Drop His Trousers In Airport Security Checks

'A passenger with a metal plate in his leg has told how he was forced to drop his trousers at one of Britain’s busiest airports to reveal his surgical scars to security staff.

The “humiliating and embarrassing” episode was part of a new security drive, guards said. Anyone who refuses to remove their clothes for the intimate examination is told they will be barred from flying.'

Shill Out of Town Reporters Brought to Gulf With BP Money

'This is absolutely disgusting. BP is paying major out of town writers to come down to the Gulf and lie to the American people. Hundreds if not thousands of American citizens are sick from the toxic dispersant that has continually been sprayed throughout the Gulf of Mexico. No matter how hard BP trys, this disaster will continue to poison the gulf for years to come.'

Depleted Uranium Haunts Kosovo and Iraq

'Iraq and Kosovo may be thousands of miles apart, but they share the dubious distinction of contamination with radioactive residue from depleted uranium (DU) bullets used in American air strikes. After several years of silence, US officials finally admitted that 340 tons of DU were fired during the Gulf war. In Kosovo, American delays in providing details of quantities and target points have frustrated international efforts to assess health risks.

Despite repeated requests, NATO waited almost a full year after the start of bombing in March 1999 to say that 31,000 DU bullets--a fraction of the number fired in Iraq--were fired by A-10 "tankbuster" aircraft over Kosovo. A Belgrade report published this April estimates that about 50,000 DU bullets had been used in parts of Serbia and Montenegro as well as Kosovo. Evidence is plentiful on the ground that DU was used in heavily populated areas, and that civilians and returning refugees were never warned of the danger.'

Banksters Inflate Speculative Food Bubble, U.N. Offers Global Governance Solution

'Never let a good crisis go to waste. The international bankers are taking advantage of the "food crisis" by driving up food prices in what is shaping up to be a classic case of a manufactured bubble. It is also looking like a clear model of Problem-Reaction-Solution methodology. Create the food inflation problem (of course profiting all the way up), force an enraged reaction among the public, and take more sovereignty away with the solution of global food regulation.'
