Welcome to Stop Camden Lab. This website serves to air the concerns of the community over this highly controversial laboratory. We are asking that Camden Council build youth and community facilities on the 3.6 acre Brill Place site in Camden instead of a potentially dangerous level 3 biocontainment lab. The backers behind the lab are the UKCMRI and the estimated cost is a massive £600million. We are residents and we feel that the site beside St Pancras International is an inappropriate place for a level 3 lab, as we fear a repeat of the Pirbright incident in 2007 which led to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, but this time, being in the heart of London and dealing with such deadly bacteria and viruses as anthrax and SARS, it could be so much worse. UKCMRI is a conglomerate of Big Pharma: Medical Research Council, University College London, Cancer Research UK and The Wellcome Trust. Councillor Roger Robinson, Labour representative for St Pancras and Somers Town, said: “Why they want to put a lab in the middle of a built-up area is beyond my comprehension.” One Click Note: Big Pharma and UK government conjoined are acting against the best interests of the electorate and running amok AGAIN!

A drug-resistant strain of pneumonia is the result of a highly-praised vaccine routinely given to infants three times in their first year of life, according to a study that will be published in today's Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). There can be no reasonable doubt that pneumonia vaccinations are creating a new, more virulent and less treatable form of the disease. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently replaced PCV-7 with PCV-13, and those children who have already received PCV-7 are being pressed to also take the new version. There is little reason to believe that the new vaccine will improve matters. It is, in fact, more likely to make things worse. It consists of 13 strains of pneumonia, including the ones in PCV-7. The only difference the new vaccine could make is to worsen the situation by causing even more drug-resistant bacteria to emerge. The introduction of pneumonia vaccines is resulting in far greater pneumonia ris k than existed before. Doctors owe it to patients to inform them that any protection they might gain against pneumonia will ultimately come at the cost of worse disease for which there is no treatment. Parents of newborns should consider the plight of their own children as their grandchildren face virulent disease that was unknown to their grandparents, disease created by the vaccines their doctors are now pushing on them. The public is nothing but a vast testing lab, with each and every person a potential lab rat.

A study on children has found further evidence that ME, or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, could be caused by a virus. Scientists at the University of Dundee study found abnormalities in the white blood cells of children with ME/CFS, suggesting they had been fighting off infection. The report, published in the Archives of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, said abnormalities were found in the blood of all the children with ME/CFS. The results were similar to those previously identified in adults with the condition. Professor Jill Belch, an expert in vascular medicine at Ninewells hospital in Dundee who led the latest research project, said: "What we've found are blood changes that suggest chronic inflammation. This is important because it's showing an abnormality that we might be able to devise a treatment for, but it's also important because some people do suggest that ME is a disease of the mind and here we are showing that it is a disease of the b ody."

MPs returned to the commons yesterday and, as a result, many of us will be bracing ourselves for the next round of misleading and vicious attacks on disabled claimants. But, in reality, the hate campaign never really let up over the summer recess. The most distressing example was undoubtedly the threat to unleash private sector bounty hunters on incapacity benefit claimants. So, to mark the return of the disablist parliament, Benefits and Work looks at what actually happens when government agencies work with the private sector to uncover benefits fraud. Professor Malcolm Harrington, meanwhile, is carrying out the independent review which is supposed to find out the truth about whether the work capability assessment for employment and support allowance is working. In our last newsletter we asked you to contact the professor with your views and experiences. We now understand that the professor would also like to know what changes you would make to improve the assessment process. Very high on our list would be the right to record your medical without the nonsense of having to provide a sound engineer and professional recording equipment. MPs are only back for two weeks before going off on another break for their annual conference jamborees. We have no doubt that all the major parties will be using the occasion to try to outdo each other in demonstrating how tough they can be on sick and disabled claimants. Meanwhile, we’ll carry on doing our best to reveal the truth behind the disablist propaganda.
