On August 30, a jihadist website released an interview of Qari Khairullah Muneeb, the Taliban's commander responsible for improvised explosives devices (IEDs) in the Dand district of Afghanistan's Kandahar province. The Dand district is situated to the south of Kandahar, the provincial capital.
The interview, conducted by an interviewer for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban's shadow government), gives an insight into the Taliban's focus on IEDs as weapons of choice against the U.S. and NATO forces.
In the interview, Qari Khairullah Muneeb notes the effectiveness of the IEDs against the foreign troops, stating: "recent military experiments in various parts of the country have shown that IEDs, when supplementing ground assault troop maneuvers, play an important role in defeating the enemy troops."
