Iyad Assad Ahmad Abu Shalbaya, who was killed in a joint Israeli military-Shin Bet raid in the West Bank town of Tulkarm early Friday, was sought as deputy chief of the Hamas cells responsible for the murder of four Israelis near Hebron on Aug. 30. He was caught in the dragnet cast across the West Bank to thwart the wave of terror Hamas was preparing to sabotage Israeli-Palestinian talks and strike Israel over Yom Kippur which begins Friday night.
