Is Barack Obama “Good for the Jews”?

Obama has the potential to be The best President for Israel in our 62 yr. history. Of course that isn’t his desire or plan but like theBiblical Narrative Balak, curses become blessings: Yamit

Is Barack Obama “Good for the Jews”? (And How About Bill Clinton And Bush?)

by Joel Fishman
Makor Rishon

The attitude of any American president to Israel is a matter of concern because it affects our lives and security. Even this week, President Obama publicly exhorted Israel to extend the settlement freeze. Many Israelis found this interference insensitive and unwelcome. One would not ask if this president is a friend of Israel, because in his Cairo speech of 4 June 2009 he publicly revealed his preference. Just the same, one continuously asks whether Obama is “good for the Jews” (and Israel), even if the question is left unstated.

Normally, one would expect that any president first be good for America, but Obama has not convinced many Americans that this is the...

MK Threatens To Topple Coalition If Netanyahu Extends Settlement Moratorium As Rumored

So Much For Netanyahu’s Toughness? 48 hours! “And along with the carrot, no matter how small, comes a stick:
Brodenstein adds that Mr. Obama also threatens that if his offer is not accepted that the U.S. will make what he terms a major gesture to the Palestinians damaging Israel: formally taking the stand that the final borders should be based on the ’67 lines with adjustments. [Hat tip: Arlene Kushner]“

MK Katz threatens to topple the government with the assistance of members of parliament from the Likud

Following the news that “Netanyahu is considering the resumption of the construction freeze in Judea and Samaria,” MK Yaakov Katz says he will connect with members of parliament from the Likud to overthrow the government. Tension in the political system for the renewal of the winter session.

Netanyahu may declare that he rejects the continued freeze on construction, but sources close to him actually believe that he will enter this...

Good News, Israel

Compliments of Anglo Saxon Raannana Real Estate

Quote for the Week

You can´t control the wind, but you can adjust your sails.

(A Yiddish proverb. Accepting the accuracy of this truism prevents a great deal of frustration. It comes highly recommended)

* September is not generally a good month for share markets, especially in Israel where there are very few trading days over the High Holy Festivals. So what happened down at Achad Ha’am St over the past weeks? Well the TASE moved forward in top gear with all the indexes rising in the vicinity of 8%. In fact the market enjoyed its best month so far this year. No wonder then that:

* Barclays Capital has upped its 2010 growth forecast from 3.3% to 3.7% – the Bank of Israel, generally more conservative about these things than most, is predicting 4% for 2010 – and its 2011 growth forecast is up from 3.5% to 4%. These financial wunderkinder had the following to say and we quote; “We...

Netanyahu is piloting the ship of state, carefully

By Ted Belman

Yamit and others have called for Netanyahu’s scalp on these pages, but they do not represent the broad right of center public.

Jonathan Spyer of MERIA has a major article on THE NETANYAHU GOVERMENT AT ITS HALFWAY POINT. He starts by setting out Netanyahu’s professed priorities as being to stop Iran, build a better economy in the Judea and Samaria and fight deligitimation. He also demands recognition of Israel as a Jewish state as an indication of a PA change of goals.

Of course, this strategy has been made problematic by the emergence in Washington–almost simultaneously to the election of the Netanyahu government–of a U.S. administration that sees the region in a very different way.

The administration of President Barack Obama has made the repairing and enhancement of U.S. relations with the Muslim world a priority, and the president places the solving of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict high on the list of priorities in achieving this.[12]...

For the Republicans…..”Israel is more their bludgeon than their cause.”

Can the GOP block a Palestinian state?

By D. BLOOMFIELD

Republicans have their own agenda: make sure Obama fails. That is likely to take precedence over anything the Israelis and Palestinians may want.

Opponents of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are hoping last week’s end to the settlement moratorium will ignite a construction explosion across the West Bank that will force Mahmoud Abbas to keep his oft-repeated and self-defeating threat to scuttle the nascent peace process.

Barring that they look for Republicans to win control of the Congress in the November elections and do the job for them. The Obama administration is frantically seeking a compromise that will allow Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Abbas to back out of the corner they’ve painted themselves into and keep the talks going until the next crisis.

A big problem for those groups on the Jewish Right is that unlike the 1990s and the Oslo peace process, this time...

Netanyahu hung tough in peace talks

Netanyahu refused to hold a serious discussion on any of the core issues apart from security, Abbas reportedly told diplomats.
By Barak Ravid, HAARETZ

The three meetings held so far between Prime Minister Benjamin Netayahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the current round of peace talks have addressed nothing of substance, diplomatic sources say.

American mediators are still trying to save the talks from collapsing in the crisis following the resumption of construction in settlements.

Netanyahu refused to hold a serious discussion on any of the core issues apart from security, Abbas reportedly told diplomats he met at the UN General Assembly. Israeli and foreign sources say the main problem is that Netanyahu refuses to present fundamental positions or discuss the borders of the Palestinian state.

“I heard nothing from Netanyahu but niceties,” Abbas reportedly told foreign diplomats.

U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell presented the talks as very...

Are the territories disputed or not? (updated)

By Ted Belman

With all the talk about the freeze, announced or de facto, I decided to write an article on the genesis of the freeze thinking it began with the Mitchell Report in the early nineties. Prof Barry Rubin set me straight and advised that in 1993 Israel agreed or at least announced, a freeze. She would not build new settlements but would do infilling of existing settlements.

My research led me to this very important resource, Statements on American Policy toward Settlements by U.S. Government Officials – 1968-2009

    Introduction

The policy of all Israeli governments since 1967 of settling Israeli citizens in the territories Israel occupied in the 1967 war is regarded by most governments as a violation of international law defined by the “Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.” In 2004, the International Court of Justice confirmed this in an advisory opinion. The United States supported the applicability of the...

The Fraud that is J Street

The JTA is also complicit. I once did an article on this and pointed out that the prosecution of the two AIPAC employees was the first salvo. This was followed by gthe publication of The Israel Lobby and many op-eds and aricles in support. J Street completed the effort. The left and any one anti Israel were determined to undo the influence of AIPAC. By Ted Belman

Editorial in Connecticut Jewish Ledger.

J street, the self-declared pro-Israel organization which is nothing of the kind, was a fraud from its beginning to its now probable inglorious end. Bruited about as an organization representing a significant portion of Jewish opinion on Israel, recent revelations show it to be a manufactured facade built on George Soros largesse.

Ed Lasky at American Thinker describes Soros as “one of the big sugar daddies of the Democratic Party. He also is the ruler of an archipelago of so-called 527 groups that pose as non-partisan activists groups, but in fact are often hyper-partisan such as...

ABC Shills For Islam

Laura: I knew when I saw the promos that this would be a misleading program
whitewashing islam. That is why I did not watch it. The liberal msm will never
expose to the public the horrible reality of islam. It is not politically correct. And its more important to be PC and multicultural than to protect the country. It’s infuriating and frustrating that regardless of ample evidence to the contrary, liberals continue to insist that islam is peaceful and tolerant. The leftist msm along with liberals in general present the greatest dangers to America because of their willful blindness when it comes to islam. It is much more than a religious faith, it is a totalitarian political ideology. It isn’t simply a few fringe radicals that are the threat, but rather it is islam itself which is the problem. Al queda and other jihadists are not deviating from true islam but are practicing authentic islam. They are simply carrying out islamic doctrine. But...
