Such luxury will greet Cabinet minister Chris Huhne – and 45 other British Government delegates – during international global warming talks in Mexico. Mr Huhne, the Liberal Democrat Energy and Climate Change Secretary, will be enjoying the facilities of the £240-a-night Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort in Cancun for the United Nations summit. Tough talks: Energy Secretary Chris Huhne Should he be tempted to use his hot tub, however, he will be doing the environment no favours. A typical double Jacuzzi generates 35 times more carbon dioxide than an ordinary bath – and 80 times more than a five-minute shower. Mr Huhne will be joined by junior Tory minister Greg Barker and a collection of civil servants and advisers during the stay at the 2,400 room hotel. The ministers will be based at the Moon Palace for the second week of the conference. Most of the UK delegates, however, will be there for a fortnight. Campaigners reacted with disbelief at the decision to house the UK delegation at the resort. Matthew Sinclair from the TaxPayers’ Alliance said: ‘The waste and hypocrisy of the climate change travelling circus needs to end, particularly with so little expected out of the negotiations.’ In between the rounds of negotiations, Mr Huhne and Mr Baker will be able to take a dip in one of three swimming pools – two of which feature ‘swim up bars’. The ministers will be able to stroll along ‘silky white beaches’, work off some pent-up aggression from difficult talks on one of six tennis courts, or bounce some balls on the hotel basketball court. They have a choice of 14 buffet and a la carte restaurants and 12 bars, and can even strengthen the Coalition over a round of golf on a course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Both ministers – multimillionaires – have had troubled private lives in recent years. Mr Huhne split from his wife of 26 years, Vicky Pryce, after confirming he was having an affair with media adviser Carina Trimingham. And Mr Barker left his wife Celeste Harrison in 2006 for interior designer William Banks-Blaney. The ministers will not be accompanied by partners. Impressive: The £240-per-night Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resport in Cancun where Chris Huhne will be staying for the United Nations summit The summit is part of a long process to get countries to sign up to legally binding cuts in greenhouse gas emissions that will prevent world temperatures rising more than 2C this century. The vast majority of climate scientists say any increases above that will lead to floods and droughts. The talks are aimed at devising a successor to the Kyoto Protocol – a treaty that committed the EU and 37 of the world’s richest countries to cut carbon dioxide emissions, but which runs out in 2012.The U.S. refused to sign Kyoto, while developing countries such as China were exempt. Expectations for the talks couldn’t be lower. After the Republican gains in the mid-term elections, the U.S. has abandoned plans to introduce its own climate change legislation and has offered only a weak pledge to cut emissions by 17 per cent. Without America committed to taking action, other countries will be reluctant to sign up to a legally binding cut. A spokesman for Mr Huhne’s department said it had worked to keep delegation costs down, adding: ‘These are multi-room, highly compex negotiations and we have to strike the right balance between making sure UK’s objectives are met while minimising the cost and carbon footprint.’( as ever------ someones takin the piss!!!!!! - Global Warming- Carbon Trading and Tax HAHAHAHAH)'

The summit due to start on Monday is the follow up to last year’s Copenhagen summit – a meeting that was supposed to be the last chance at preventing dangerous climate change but which ended in a series of weak, non-binding pledges from 80 countries.Explore more:
