Not Ashamed

Thank you for your continuing support of 'Not Ashamed'. We're excited about how the campaign is developing as we approach the final few days ahead of the 1st December launch. This Sunday is a key opportunity to spread the word to friends at church. Please print out posters and leaflets from the website here or contact us if you would like a church pack with videos and other material.

Lord Carey's leaflet 'I'm Not Ashamed' will be available to order next week. We're keen to hear of how you plan to mark 'Not Ashamed' day.

We plan to send you details of some exciting new developments early next week.

Dr Sheila Matthews – Worrying Judgment

The Christian Legal Centre is considering further legal action after Dr Sheila Matthews’ case for religious discrimination was rejected by the Judge. A discussion of the case can be read here on Andrea Williams’ blog.

Dr Matthews was dismissed last year from the Northamptonshire County Council adoption panel over her belief that children should not be placed with homosexual couples. However, the Judge claimed that Dr Matthews was not discriminated against because anyone who held the same views on homosexual parenting, of whatever religion or none, would have been treated in the same way.

Andrea Williams said: "We believe that this is a disingenuous and deeply unjust argument. The truth is, Dr Matthews’ exclusion at work has resulted from her Christian views which were not accommodated. You should be able to be a Christian and a doctor without conflict. The Judge took approximately 15 minutes to make his decision giving the appearance after a two day hearing that he had already written his judgment beforehand.”

“The Judge had the chance to be incredibly brave and put the real issues on the table. He could have referred the case to the European Court of Justice asking it to consider how to balance religious rights with homosexual rights or simply have concluded that the treatment of Dr Matthews by the Council was wholly disproportionate and that reasonable steps could have been taken to accommodate her position."

Further details of the story are here. A video interview with Sheila Matthews is here.

End of Life Assistance (Scotland) Bill – Action for Scottish supporters

The End of Life Assistance (Scotland) Bill, which seeks to legalise both assisted suicide and voluntary euthanasia in Scotland, has been rejected by the Committee scrutinising the bill. This is great news. The committee looking at the bill said that it found no case for changing the law. You can read the full story here.

MSPs will debate the bill next week at 2.55pm on Thursday 25 November with a vote late that evening. If voted out at that stage the bill will fall. Please pray and write to your MSP to encourage them to vote against the Bill. For more information, please see:
