Google removes Street View images of Gordon Brown's house

Google has removed images of former prime minister Gordon Brown's Fife home from its Street View site.

A Google Street View camera recording images in Mid Craigie, Dundee, in 2008.

Street View shows images of roads and people's homes from all over the world, but inadvertantly took things too far.

One of its camera cars snapped the street where Mr Brown lives with his wife Sarah and their sons John and Fraser.

The images apparently showed armed police standing outside the front gate of the two-storey property.

Mr Brown has had an armed guard provided by officers from Fife police since he became prime minister in 2007.

The images also recorded some of the network of security cameras outside his home.

A complaint was made to the Street View site and the offending image was removed following discussions with the Brown family.

A spokesman for the former prime minister told The Courier, "We don't comment on security matters. That's really a matter for the police."

Fife police also declined to discuss the matter. A spokesman said, "We do not discuss any matters involving the Brown family."

Anyone can request an image be removed from the Street View site and Google maintains on the website the process is straightforward.
