China Confidential adds: Still unknown also is the extent to which Saudi influence--and fear of nuclear-armed Pakistan--shaped the Bush administration's restrained response to 9/11. Was the dysfunctional and duplicitous extended family posing as a country (to paraphrase Henry Kissinger) responsible for effectively preventing the U.S. from formally declaring war on Pakistan/Saudi-supported Afghanistan, for example, which, under the dreaded Taliban, had harbored and aided Al Qaeda?

Put differently, did the Saudis make sure that there would not be a Second World War-style U.S. response to a Pearl Harbor-style sneak attack by Saudi Islamists, that there would instead be an unnecessary invasion of a contained secular enemy--Saddam's Iraq--and a misnamed "War on Terror"--but no war on radical Islam, no all-out annihilation of Al Qaeda and the Taliban, no end to immigration from suspect Muslim lands pending U.S. victory over Islamism, no revocation of visas granted to aliens from suspect Muslim nations, no aggressive capture and interrogation of visa over-stayers, no green light to Israel to crush Hamas, no OK to Morocco and other pro-Western Arab countries to crush their Islamist insurrectionists?

Click here for the story, and consider that the craven Carter (a one-term U.S. President who betrayed and abandoned an American ally, the Shah of Iran, and supported the Afghan jihad before and in order to trigger the Soviet invasion of that backward country) has long promoted and has also met with Iran-backed Hamas, which the U.S. State Department has formally designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

Consider, too, that the catastrophic Obama administration, which has appeased and attempted to actually align with nuclear-arming Iran, has reached out to Iran's Islamist Palestinian proxy in various ways, only to be rejected and rebuffed time and again.
