The PIE Syndrome Prof. Paul Eidelberg Most commentators on Israel have been afflicted by a syndrome or compulsion that dominates every Israeli government regardless of which party is at the helm. Allow me to call this the PIE or Politics-Is-Everything Syndrome. The PIE Syndrome is rooted in the alluring and simplistic idea that Israel’s problems can be overcome by politics in general, and by correct political analysis, in particular. Any appearances to the contrary notwithstanding, the PIE Governments of Israel have available a more or less correct political analysis of their country’s most pressing and persistent problem—the implacable hostility of Israel’s Arab neighbors. How could they possibly ignore or minimize such hostility when Israel’s own Arab citizens are exempt from military service precisely because of their enmity toward the Jewish State? Even the homunculus Shimon Peres knows this. One does not have to be a Ph.D. in political science to offer Israeli prime ministers correct political analysis regarding Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, who proudly announced the other day that he is a faithful disciple of Yasser Arafat, the godfather of international terrorism. Speaking of Arafat, was it a lack of correct political analysis that prompted Messrs. Rabin, Peres, Netanyahu, Barak, Sharon, and Olmert to release and arm tens of thousands of PLO jihadists to provide for Israel’s security? Of course not! Only fools or madmen would do such a thing. Fools or madmen, however, are immune to correct political analysis. That being the case, is it not folly to offer fools or madmen correct political analysis? But if it is folly to offer fools or madmen correct political analysis, perhaps there is something incorrect about correct political analysis! Consider PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who persists in making concessions to Abbas, a Fatah thug. Is Mr. Netanyahu oblivious of the fact that Fatah, no less than Hamas, is committed to Israel's destruction? Is Mr. Netanyahu as stupid as Hillary Clinton? Of course not! Is he a retarded multiculturalist like Tzipi Livni? Of course not! Is he oblivious of the penetrating political analyses of Caroline Glick? Of course not! So what's his problem? Is he suffering from the PIE Syndrome? Or is he suffering from MIM—Metaphysically Induced Madness? This is the madness of which the Prophet Isaiah speaks, the madness of Jews who remove God from the domain of statecraft, of Jews who believe in PIE, that politics is sufficient for Israel’s salvation. This is precisely the fallacy of correct political analysis—or should I say "politically correct" political analysis? Whether you call it PIE or MIM, one thing is obvious even to the meanest intellect: Israel has been retreating and retreating despite correct political analysis—and not because political analyses have been ignored. They simply obscure the root cause of Israel's malaise—to say it again, the removal of God from the domain of statecraft. Notice that Allah has not been removed from Islamic statecraft. To the contrary, Allah—even if you deem Allah a fourteen-century fiction—is the driving force of Islamic statecraft. And if you think a fiction can't move nations, let me remind you of the fiction called the "peace process." This transnational fiction has enriched, and continues to enrich, tyrants and terrorists throughout the Middle East, to say nothing of trouble-makers like Shimon Peres—the trusting "peace-partner" of the late Yasser Arafat. It has never occurred to those afflicted by the PIE Syndrome that even if Allah is a fiction, shouting Allahu Akbar—"God is great"—endows Muslims with the merit of indicating that there is a being higher than man, hence something more noble than politics and correct political analysis. By the way, this is why ancient paganism, in one respect, is superior to secular humanism, which denies anything superior to man. Do you see the PIE Syndrome in the Bible of Israel? Just what is it that made Israel the greatest nation on earth, and made Jews the teachers of mankind? Is there anything about the government of Israel today that is worthy of the name "Israel"— its Prophets and Sages, and of the countless Jews throughout the ages that sanctified God's name? But may this not be the prelude of Israel's renaissance—from the rotting seed emerges the flower? ========== How to Topple Netanyahu! Prof. Paul Eidelberg Back in 2005, some months before the August expulsion of 8,000 Jews from their homes in Gush Katif, I issued a warning and a proposal via the electronic and print media. Let me summarize and update what I said. 1. We are in danger of losing (God forbid) the Jewish state. The threat comes from two sources. One of course is the Arab threat. 2. But the more serious and immediate threat comes from the Governme 3. Less obvious is the Supreme Court’s agenda to transform Israel into a multicultural democracy—another Sweden—and thereby trash the glorious heritage of the Jewish people. This agenda is equivalent to the hatred of Judaism that has animated the nations ever since the lawgiving at Sinai. a. That lawgiving has been negated by Israel's Supreme Court, whose is dictum "everything is justiciable" displays the Court's unmitigated arrogance. b. Robert Bork, one of America’s most distinguished jurists, has said this about Israel’s Supreme Court: “[It is] the worst court in the Western world." c. By virtue of its judicial imperialism, this Court has usurped legislative as well as executive powers of government on the one hand, while undermining Israel’s national security and Jewish character on the other. 3. Today everyone is preoccupied with Benjamin Netanyahu's rocky relationship with Barak Obama, a multicultural relativist who is as scornful of Israel as he is of America. The two men are devoid of any serious ideology. They are inflated and infatuated by their own rhetoric. Indeed, they steeped in duplicity and in moral if not criminal perfidy. 4. Certain members of the Cabinet and of other nationalist parties know this. But they turn a blind eye toward Netanyahu's perfidious behavior lest the government is toppled, replaced by a mindless Tzipi Livni, followed by the loss of their own perks and power. Accordingly, they tolerate Netanyahu's willingness to extend the moratorium on construction, which means they are willing to exchange Jewish land for temporary baubles such as jet fighters and a verbal assurance of the U.S. that it will veto any UN Security resolution hostile to Israel. 5. Several months before the ax of expulsion fell on Gush Katif, I urged its residents, especially those having relatives in America, to initiate a class-action suit against the Sharon government before the U.S. Supreme Court. I pointed out that the Gaza expulsion actually violated American law, in particular the Anglo-American Convention on Palestine. That convention or treaty was ratified by the United States Senate and subsequently proclaimed by President Calvin Coolidge on December 5, 1925. This treaty, which remains in force to this day as the supreme law of the land, was violated by the Bush administration’s support of Disengagement. It is currently being violated by the Obama Administration's endorsement of a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria—land which, according to that treaty, belongs to the Jews. 6. I urged that a team be organized to obtain the services of a prominent American constitutional lawyer to lead a group of other legal experts to challenge the legality of Disengagement. This same proposal may be applied to Netanyahu's endorsement of a Palestinian state. That endorsement, which entails the expulsion of more than 300,000 Jews from Judea and Samaria, is an obvious and most heinous crime against humanity. 7. I mentioned the name of Prof. Alan Dershowitz, but any other qualified and prominent lawyer would do, if assisted by other legal experts, to sue the American president before the U.S. Supreme Court for violating the U.S. Constitution as indicated in Item 5 above. a. We want Barack Obama, or at least Hillary Clinton, to be put in the dock of American public opinion and asked: “Do you support the uprooting of 300,000 Jews from their homes and synagogues and farms in Judea and Samaria and turning this ancient Jewish land and the homes of its present Jewish residents to Palestinian terrorists?" b. We want to show how Obama's and Netanyahu's endorsement of a Palestinian state violates the laws of both countries as well as international law. 8. I urge those of you in America now reading these words to stand up and get to work! Form a group of ardent Jewish and Christian Zionists to save Israel from its own government and help America in the process. Get a team of talented lawyers to formulate a petition to the US Supreme Court on the Palestinian state issue. Don’t worry about winning the suit. Just get Netanyahu and Obama discredited in the court of American public opinion and it will topple Netanyahu in Israel—and don't worry; no one will be in position to take his place and pursue the same perfidious policy. ============

[Freeman Center Note: Considering the Jewish historical experience with weakness, ALL Jews (and, of course, Israelis) should be armedand able to defend themselves. Any attempt by the government to disarm Jews should be resisted by force. Better to die a free man than to live as a slave. Any attempt by the U.S, Europe or the UN to limit Israeli military freedom of action should be prevented!]
