Mystery Missile Was Wake-Up Call
Wednesday, 10 November 2010
The above-referenced, stunning, 2007 anti-satellite test was an example of the Chinese military's active pursuit of an astonishing array of futuristic, space-based technologies under its Assassin's Mace (Shashoujian) space warfare program. In Chinese society, shashoujian commonly cannotes an action or quality that offers strategic advantage when employed in a particular way. In Chinese military vernacular, the term is used more specifically, to describe a secret weapon or weapon system--or war-fighting method, or strategem, or tactic--capable of achieving political, psychological and military victory through a single, decisive blow.
China Confidential was one of the first media outlets--if the not the first--to suggest that North Korea and/or Iran may have been responsible for the mystery missile launch off the California coast.
At the very least, the still unexplained incident should be considered a wake-up call--a dramatic reminder that there is no known defense against a sea-based ballistic missile strike on U.S. coastal cities or a sea-based electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack.
China Confidential has long focused on the all-too-real EMP threat, which would overnight plunge the United States back into the 19th century--without the infrastructure and resources of that century. Experts estimate that only 10% of the U.S. population would survive an EMP attack.
Not for nothing have Iran and North Korea developed and tested concealed systems for firing ballistic missiles from cargo ships.
