Israel-U.S. talks on renewed settlement freeze reach dead end
Will Obama follow Brazil and Argentina in recognizing a Pal State? Yamit
Senior Israeli official says U.S., Israeli governments to announce that negotiations have failed, two sides to find new ways to advance Mideast peace process.
By Barak Ravid and Natasha Mozgovaya
Negotiations between Israel and the U.S. government regarding Israel’s renewal of a moratorium on West Bank settlement construction in exchange for an American letter of guarantees have failed, according to a senior Israeli official.
The official said that the Obama administration and the Israeli government will announce Tuesday that the talks between the two countries have reached a dead end, and that they will try to find new ways to advance the Middle East peace process.
Earlier on Tuesday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that contacts with the United States over a renewed moratorium on West Bank construction had been frozen in the wake of the WikiLeaks crisis and the tensions between North and South Korea....
Obama can’t get no respect…deservedly
Washington Post: Obama Administration “looks weak” and is “pushed around by Arab strongmen”
By Barry Rubin
The Washington Post’s editorial, “Mr. Mubarak vs. Mr. Obama,” has two passages especially worthy of notice.
Among U.S. daily city newspapers, the Post has been the best generally at understanding the serious trouble created by the Obama Administration’s mistakes and misunderstandings. In this editorial, it urges the U.S government to get tougher with Egypt over human rights’ issues there, especially in regard to the parliamentary elections.
What interests me most, though, are two specific statements. Here they are:
“ Mubarak’s rude dismissal of what have been gentle U.S. calls for change is making the Obama administration look weak in a region that can be quick to act on such perceptions….
“Most of all, Mr. Obama should make it clear that he will not be dismissed or pushed around by Arab...
Poll Reveals Majority of muslims Are Not Peaceful
Laura: This poll gives the lie to the notion that we can’t judge all muslims by the
actions of the terrorists. And all the other liberal spiel about most muslims being peaceful, moderate and non-violent. Bull! Clearly the jihadists represent the mainstream of islam and are not some fringe minority. Clearly hatred and violence are an integral part of islam and not a misrepresentation of islam. Someone needs to show this poll to Barbara Walters, Whoopie Goldberg and Joy Behar among others in the liberal media elite who need to be awaken from their stupor.
Pew Poll: Majority of Muslims supports death for anyone leaving Islam
Marc Schenker, Examiner
Pew Poll: Majority of Muslims supports death for anyone leaving Islam. In a new poll by Pew, a majority of Muslims in many of the world’s Islamic countries says they are very much in favor of killing any person who converts from Islam to any other religion. The new poll also exposed mainstream Muslim attitudes regarding other...
Halt Nuclear Iran–Now!
In my opinion only Israel and not the US, should deal with Iran. As I see it, it’s the only way to restore Israeli deterrence and forestall for the time being the nuclearization of the whole ME. If America were to do the job it would diminish our deterrence and invite unprecedented world pressure on Israel to give up her nukes. An Israeli attack on Iranwould in all probability open up possibilities for dealing with Hizbullah and all of our Pali neighbors. Yamit
At this late stage, the only option is a miitary one.
A nuclear Iran jeopardizes regional stability in the Middle East and has far-reaching implications for global affairs. Iran’s geographical location puts it in a position to dominate the strategic energy sector and create an anti-Western alliance among oil producing countries like Venezuela and Russia. Iran also seeks to create a radical Shiite corridor through Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, and may transfer nuclear bombs to terrorist...
Sarkozy: North Korea to supply Iran with nuclear bomb components
In quiet contacts, French President Nicolas Sarkozy warns that North Korea is using its crisis with the South to cover up its planned transfer to Iran of nuclear weapons systems parts and extra-fast centrifuges for uranium enrichment that could help Tehran go into bomb production in the first half of 2011, debkafile’s intelligence sources report. The French president has asked pro-Western Persian Gulf leaders to try and persuade President Barack Obama to take strong military action against North Korea – not just because of its aggression against the south, but to hold back Pyongyang’s nuclear aid to Tehran.
Our sources report urgent secret calls from the Elysée to the New York hospital where Saudi King Abdullah is recovering from surgery, to his foreign minister Prince Saud Al Faisal and intelligence chief Prince Moqrin Bin Abdul Aziz as well as to the Emir of Kuwait, Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah. He asked them to use their influence and lean hard on...
Like Palin, Israelis turn to alternate media
By Caroline Glick
Presently, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is implementing the Left’s appeasement policy towards the Palestinians with as much enthusiasm as Shimon Peres before him. Last Monday Ron Dermer, Netanyahu’s most trusted adviser, told Politico that a leader is defined by the contempt he feels for his voters. As Dermer put it, “The test of leadership is doing things that are not popular with your base.”
There are many explanations for what is going on. The most cited are Israel’s indirect elections system in which leaders are unaccountable to voters, the weakness of Israel’s politicians, and the poor quality of their advisors.
While all are true, another explanation is more compelling. In Israel the Left exerts almost complete control over the political and social discourse. Unlike the situation in the US – particularly in the era of Fox News – there are no significant communications outlets in Israel that are not...
Can the UN legally impose a solution on Israel’
By Ted Belman (originally published 1 year ago.)
A movement is afoot to get the UN to predetermine borders between Israel and the future 23rd Arab state and to recognize “East Jerusalem” as its capital. Such predetermination would be in violation of the Roadmap which calls for a negotiated solution where “negotiated” implies freedom to say “no”. And such predetermination would prejudge the outcome which the world never tires of telling Israel, no one can do.
I began doing research on the powers of the UN and on whether such UN predetermination would be ultra-vires its Charter. In other words, would it be legal by international law for the UN to dictate a solution’. I wanted to know what the consequences might be for Israel. I have not yet gotten a good enough fix on these questions to give an opinion. Regardless of the true meaning of the Charter, I fear that the UN would give the same answer that the Queen gave to Alice in Wonderland, “It means what I say it...
So what if many countries recognize Palestine?
By Ted Belman
Now that Brazil and Argentina and other Latin American states are recognizing Palestine within ’67 borders I would remind you that when Palestine first declared itself about 10 years ago, 86 states recognized it.
In my article, Will President Palin end the futile “peaceprocess”, I wrote,
The Jerusalem Centre for Public affairs published a paper on International Recognition of a Unilaterally Declared Palestinian State: Legal and Policy Dilemmas by Tal Becker. He writes “The Palestinian entity does not become a state under international law merely by a unilateral declaration to that effect. To be eligible for recognition it must satisfy specific legal criteria. Indeed, under international law, the recognition of an entity which clearly fails to meet these criteria constitutes an unlawful and invalid act.”
These criteria include,
• Is There an Effective and Independent Government?
• Does the Palestinian Entity Possess a Defined...
Jihadist in the Whitehouse — Arms, Funds and Diplomatic Support
What is most interesting about the WikiLeaks is that it validates everything I have been covering at Atlas for years. Everything. Obama’s pro-jihahist leanings and antisemitic/anti-Israel predilections, the Islamization of Turkey, Iran and its proxies Hezb’Allah and Hamas, the global warming hoax, and on and on.
Obama’s jihad is thriving, it seems, and not just in his translated book title to the Muslim world — “Obama’s Jihad: Jakarta to the Whitehouse.”
Obama’s tacit support of jihadist forces worldwide is yet another impeachable offense. The man was elected to support and defend the Constitution — not to mention the American people. Aiding in America’s downfall cannot be sanctioned or ignored.
WikiLeaks cables: Barack Obama is a bigger danger
WikiLeaks harms the US. But the president’s refusal to acknowledge the threats we face is a bigger danger
By John Bolton, The Guardian
WikiLeaks has yet again flooded the internet with thousands of classified American documents, this time state department cables. More troubling than WikiLeaks’ latest revelation of US secrets, however, is the Obama administration’s weak, wrong-headed and erratic response. Unfortunately, the administration has acted consistently with its demonstrated unwillingness to assert and defend US interests across a wide range of threats, such as Iran and North Korea, which, ironically, the leaked cables amply document.
On 29 November, secretary of state Hillary Clinton lamented that this third document dump was “not just an attack on United States foreign policy and interests, an attack on the international community”. By contrast, on 1 December, the presidential press secretary, Robert Gibbs, said the White...
