South Korea Starts Provocative Live-Fire Drill

'South Korean troops have started a live-fire artillery exercise on a border island, the South Korean Defense Ministry says. "The drill has started," a ministry spokesman told AFP on Monday. South Korean Marines began one-day artillery drills on Yeonpyeong Island at 02:30 p.m. (05:30 GMT) on Monday, an officer at South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

South Korea's military will "immediately and sternly" deal with any possible provocation by North Korea, the officer noted, speaking on condition of anonymity citing department rules.'

'10 EU States to Upgrade Palestinian Missions'

'European countries have agreed to upgrade Palestinian missions as embassies, trying to push for a Palestinian state, chief Palestinian Authority negotiator says.

Saeb Erakat said on Sunday that Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) missions abroad are a step closer towards becoming embassies of an "occupied state with defined borders." Many countries around the world have recognized an independent, sovereign Palestinian state, as they have seen that the Middle East talks have amounted to nothing.'

Belarusians Protest 'Fraud' in Election

'Thousands of Belarusian opposition activists have poured into the streets to protest alleged mass fraud as exit polls put incumbent president on course for victory. Early results from Sunday's presidential election showed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko scored a solid 72.2 percent of the vote, compared to 6.1 percent for each of the opposition candidates Andrei Sannikov and Vladimir Nekliayev, AFP reported.

According to the same exit poll, which was conducted for Belarus public ONT television, Yaroslav Romanchuk of the opposition United Civil Party of Belarus is also projected to have received 3.3 percent of the vote. More than 10,000 opposition supporters converged on October Square in the Belarusian capital, Minsk to show their anger over alleged irregularities and massive vote-rigging in the election.'
