United Nations Human Rights Council speaks for itself
by Bill Levinson
As reported in “If this doesn’t get the US out of the UN, what will?” some of the countries named below lectured the United States on its human rights “problems.”
Here is a list of the United Nations Human Rights Council members. Note that a good number of them are rated “Not Free” by Freedom House, so having them on a Human Rights Council is a lot like having pimps and white slavers on a Women’s Rights Council.
Angola (rated “Not Free” by FreedomHouse.org)
Argentina
Bahrain
Bangladesh
Belgium
Brazil
Burkina Faso
Cameroon (rated “Not Free” by FreedomHouse.org)
Chile
China
This sorry excuse for a country is run by Nazi-like dictators, and Godwin’s Law does not apply if the individuals in question behave like genuine Nazis. China’s rulers keep concentration camps full of political prisoners for organ harvesting on demand. Falun Gong prisoners are in fact blood-typed so...
Fantasy dictates American policy in the Middle East
A Relationship in Tatters
by Jonathan Rosenblum
The WikiLeaks revelations have further confirmed the shaky basis of American Middle East policy and provided additional evidence of a teetering American-Israel relationship. From its first day in office, the Obama administration has argued for a linkage between progress on the Palestinian-Israel peace track and the possibility of effective action to stop the Iranian nuclear program. Only if Middle Eastern states became convinced that the Palestinians were going to receive their state, President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton claimed, could they be expected to lend their support to action against Iran.
That argument is poppycock, we now know, and the President and Secretary of State have known it to be such from the beginning. Arab leaders have been begging the United States to do anything necessary, including military action, to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions in their tracks. Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah...
Chanukah Greetings from Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin’s Chanukah message
From Sarah Palin’s Facebook page:
As Jewish families all over the country and the world come together to celebrate the festival of lights – the miracle of one day’s worth of oil lasting for eight – we are reminded that this holiday is also about the miracle of taking a stand against impossible odds, surviving existential threats, and staying true to one’s values and beliefs through it all.
More than two thousand years after the Maccabees rebelled against their oppressors and reconsecrated their Holy Temple, the Jewish people continue to face threats to their existence, and they continue to persevere and overcome great odds. Today we should all recommit ourselves to ensuring that the miracle of a Jewish state endures forever. The dreidel is one of the most familiar symbols of Hanukkah, with Hebrew letters on it representing the phrase Nes Gadol Haya Sham – “a great miracle happened there.” Indeed a great miracle is still...
A Holiday of Resistance
A timeless message for all Jews. Greenfield at his best! I loved it, this should be reprinted and disseminated to every Jew. The Maccabees established a thing more important than human lives: the will to fight for the truths that we hold self-evident.Yamit
The first night of Chanukah marks the beginning of a holiday that for many of its celebrants has no identity, that celebrates ‘celebration’, with no thought to what it is celebrating. For many Americans, Chanukah appears to overlap with Christmas. But there is no similarity between the two other than the season. The more appropriate analogy is to the 4th of July overlaid with Thanksgiving, a celebration of divine aid in a military campaign against tyrannical oppression.
The overt militarism of the Chanukah story has often made it an uncomfortable fit for both religious and secular Jews. And both have found it easier to strip away its dangerous underlying message. The message that a time comes when...
Hanukkah at the White House
Obama Marks Chanukah and Expresses Support for Israel
The White House held a Chanukah candle-lighting ceremony Thursday night and the president began his speech at the event by relating to the events in Israel’s north. “I want to begin by offering our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, of all of those who died” said Obama and declared “As rescuers, firefighters are continuing their work, the United States is acting to help our Israeli friends in this time of disaster”.

Top Merkel advisor told the US to crack down on Israel
By Benjamin Weinthal , The Corner
Berlin — A senior adviser to German chancellor Angela Merkel urged the U.S. to water down its opposition to the U.N.’s anti-Israel “Goldstone Report” in order to force Israel to freeze settlement construction, according to a cable from the U.S. embassy in Berlin published by WikiLeaks.
The dispatch from Merkel’s point man on the Middle East, Christoph Heusgen, ought to raise giant question marks over Merkel’s oft-repeated declarations to the U.S. Congress and the Israeli Knesset that the Jewish state’s security is “non-negotiable” for Germany.
The embassy said in the November 2009 cable: “ Heusgen said that Germany ‘perceives this differently’ and thought Netanyahu needed ‘to do more’ in order to bring the Palestinians to the negotiating table. With Palestinians in East Jerusalem getting notices from Israeli authorities that their houses will be destroyed, it would be...
