Households would be given a set number of free energy 'tokens' which would be offset against any fuel burnt in a vehicle or at home, under the proposals made by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Peak Oil. Under the Tradable Energy Quotas programme, surplus energy units could be sold and extra tokens bought.' 'Ministers may be axing valuable public services while leaving wasteful programmes unscathed as they attempt to save £81billion, a leading think-tank has warned.
The Government has focused too much on the bottom line and is implementing the cuts in the ‘wrong way’, it claimed. The policy could even lead to ‘social breakdown’ if cuts are not better targeted.

Well, that's definitely true, although another word more appropriate than 'differently' comes to mind.
I have just called the Nationwide Building Society, based at Swindon in the UK, to ask why I have been blocked from accessing my account via the Internet due to what they call 'security' - something to do with anti-virus software or something.
I spoke to someone at the call centre called 'Steven' who asked me a series of 'security questions', all of which I answered until it came to financial details that I needed to see my account to tell him. But I couldn't see my account because 'Steven's' company had blocked me from seeing it due to 'security'.
'Steven' then informed me that I had therefore 'failed' the security questions and so he was ending the call and I could not talk to him about unblocking my account due to 'security' because I had not answered his questions (which I couldn't without seeing my account', which I was not allowed to do because of 'security').
I asked 'Steven' for his second name so I could take this further and break the ludicrous Catch 22, but he said he couldn't give it to me because of 'security'.
'Thank-you for calling Nationwide - have a nice day.'

'I’m sure that there are plenty of reasons why this isn’t weird, but I’ll just make a note of it in case Coincidence strikes.
