US Justice Department Wants Details Of All WikiLeaks Twitter Followers

The official Wikileaks Twitter account has just tweeted the following official statement: WARNING all 637,000 @wikileaks followers are a target of US gov subpoena against Twitter, under section 2. B. Tweeters currently online are expressing vehement outrage at the prospect of relinquishing their right to deny the U.S. government access to their IP addresses, banking details, connection records, email addresses or other private information. Talk of a class action law suit is already under way and a #ClassActionWL thread has been initiated. In most cases, anonymous Tweets are not considered official sources, but it seems an exception must be made in the present case, given that users are the very parties involved. Users unfollowing the Wikileaks Twitter account at this time will not be exempt from the order, which seems to apply to users having received Wikileaks tweets in the past. Too late to unfollow. Updates on any forthcoming press releases and public statements will be posted here.

Shaken Baby Syndrome Guidance Issued By UK Crown Prosecution Service

Sir Roy Meadow, the ultimate disgraced 'child expert'

Head injuries alone are unlikely to be enough to charge someone with homicide, attempted murder or assault in "shaken baby syndrome" cases, according to new Crown Prosecution Service guidance. So-called shaken baby syndrome broadly refers to non-accidental injury to an infant resulting from violent shaking. The guidance updates advice issued five years ago after high profile cases. Previous advice came after the attorney general ordered a review of all cases in the previous decade which had involved convictions for killing infants aged under two. It followed concerns over the evidence of the paediatrician Professor Sir Roy Meadow in the Angela Cannings prosecution, which involved sudden infant death, not shaken baby syndrome. Mrs Cannings was found guilty of smothering her seven-week-old son in 1991 and her 18-week-old son eight years later. These convictions were later overturned. The Cannings case was one of several which raised concerns that many parents convicted of killing their children were victims of miscarriages of justice. The judges who released her ruled that no-one should be prosecuted solely on the basis of medical opinion which was disputed between experts. Sir Roy was later found guilty of serious professional misconduct and struck off the medical register, but was reinstated after an appeal which overturned the GMC's verdicts. Sir Roy also gave evidence in the case of Donna Anthony who was freed on appeal in 2005 after being imprisoned for life eight years earlier for killing her 11-month-old daughter and four-month-old son.

Pandemrix Flu Vaccine Contains Poisonous Mercury

Flu jab: Up to a million children have been given flu vaccines containing mercury
Up to a million under-fives have been inoculated against the flu virus with a controversial vaccine containing poisonous mercury. Pandemrix has been given to almost a quarter of all healthy babies and young children as well as thousands of older children with health problems. Inquiries by the Sunday Express reveal it contains a preservative made with a form of mercury that was phased out of childhood vaccines in 2004 after fears about its safety. The preservative, called thimerosal, has been linked with autism and developmental disorders in children and was withdrawn from childhood vaccines in the United States and parts of Europe 10 years ago. 86 per cent of the 3,310 reports of suspected side effects to all flu vaccines, including 29 deaths, have been linked to GlaxoSmithKline's Pandemrix. Dr Richard Halvorsen said: “There is enough convincing evidence linking thimerosal with developmental disorders and learning problems in individual ch ildren to warrant its removal from any childhood vaccine. It is irresponsible to administer a jab with little proven benefit which contains potentially harmful toxic substances.”

What’s Really To Blame For California’s Whooping Cough Epidemic?

An investigation by California news agencies and watchdog organizations is raising serious concerns about whether the whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine is actually working. In 2010, nearly 1,000 adults and children have tested positive for whooping cough -- and more than half of them had been vaccinated. "... Scientists ... discovered the pertussis bacteria had mutated almost two decades ago ... The new generation of vaccines, which came out around the same time, was not tested on the mutation ... The new strain can overpower the vaccine." For an eye-opening look at the current situation, watch the KPBS videos linked below, especially the one from December 16. You will learn just how often the vaccine fails and start to understand how immunized people are actually spreading the disease. They also examine why most people have never heard of these facts -- because the experts who influence vaccine policy have strong ties to vaccine companies.

An Index Of 'Arm-Twistability' Of Governments Will Be Useful

The 1998 position paper of the WHO stated that countries should consider Hib burden before introducing the vaccine. After the Bangladesh and Indonesia probe studies showed little benefit from Hib vaccine in these countries, inexplicably, the WHO modified its recommendation to say Hib vaccine must be introduced in all routine immunization programs, regardless of national burden. Vaccines against pneumonia (Hib and pneumococcal vaccine) only address two of the many causes of pneumonia (and causes of deaths from pneumonia). Even vaccines that are very efficacious against strain-specific-disease may have very little utility in the community, because the strain-specific-disease is a rare, compared to all the other causes of pneumonia (- low utility in terms of absolute risk reduction). The uptake of expensive vaccines of doubtful utility in poor countries thus requires a huge push. International organizations like the WHO and GAVI have all played their part. A previous study has shown that countries without democracy take up vaccines more easily. I wonder if one can develop an index of arm-twistability of these poor countries. Factors like corrupt dictatorships, greater dependence on foreign aid, absence of an empowered civil-society movement and lack of expertise within the country to allow it to make an independent evaluation of the costs and benefits, will all contribute to this index of arm-twistability. Excellent correlation to vaccine uptake with this index is likely to be found. It will allow international agencies to concentrate on these countries where the response to their overtures is likely to be more gratifying.

Deadly Medicine

Prescription drugs kill some 200,000 Americans every year. Will that number go up, now that most clinical trials are conducted overseas—on sick Russians, homeless Poles, and slum-dwelling Chinese—in places where regulation is virtually nonexistent, the F.D.A. doesn’t reach, and “mistakes” can end up in pauper’s graves? The authors investigate the globalization of the pharmaceutical industry, and the U.S. Government’s failure to rein in a lethal profit machine.

Ex-MP David Chaytor Gets 18 Months Jail For Expenses Swindle

Mr Justice Saunders just sentenced the former Labour MP for Bury, David Chaytor, to eighteen months at Her Majesty’s pleasure after pleading guilty to three counts of false accounting, or stealing £18,000 from the taxpayer, under section 17 of the Theft Act 1968. Guido has been waiting six years to type that sentence.
