RuLeaks Launched - 80,000 Hits And Counting

A new website,
RuLeaks, has posted photographs of a lavish Black Sea mansion believed to have been commissioned for Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. RuLeaks claims that costing 1 Billion, it was built for Putin's personal use. The photos have multiplied hits on the site by ten in excess of 80,000. The mansion story was first broken by businessman Sergei Kolesnikov who published an open letter to Medvedev about it on his website last December. The site was originally created to mirror material published by Wikileaks but quickly began to publish original material. The site now focuses on original leaks. While revealing secrets the group itself remains secret. The team wrote in an email: "Even our wives and children do not know we are The Anonymous. Amo ng us are the unemployed and students, office slaves and the laborers of the soil, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, anonymous brothers and sisters of Planet Earth. Every day we get up and protect the freedom of information."RuLeaks is now suffering denial of service attacks. It is incorrect to categorise RuLeaks as a WikiLeaks competitor. WikiLeaks spokesperson Kristinn Hrafnsson has gone out of his way to state the more the merrier. On One Click we wish all the very best to RuLeaks.

Ex-Banker Elmer In Custody Over WikiLeaks Data

Banker Rudolf Elmer handing over CDs containing explosive banking
information to WikiLeaks' Julian Assange at the Frontline Club in London
Banker Rudolf Elmer is appealing the verdict imposed by the Swiss courts on January 19 that found him guilty of breaking banking secrecy laws. In a separate development, Elmer has now been placed in custody this Wednesday after he handed over computer discs to WikiLeaks containing details of as many as 2,000 offshore banks accounts including the alleged tax evasion activities of politicians and celebrities. Elmer worked for the Julius Baer Group in the Cayman Islands. If the data given to WikiLeaks includes Swiss clients, then the second case would fall under Swiss law says Zurich prosecutor Pete Pelegrini. Switzerland's banking has been much questioned in recent times. "Julius Baer Bank & Trust Co. is registered under Cayman law, which means that it isn’t subject to Swiss secrecy laws",Elmer’s lawyer Ganden Tethong Blattner said. Those laws threaten banking employees with as much as five years in prison for passing info rmation to a third party without permission.

Bradley Manning's Lawyer Files Complaint Over Detention Conditions

Army Pfc Bradley Manning being held in intolerable conditions without charge
Bradley Manning's lawyer, David Coombs has formally objected to the treatment being meted out to his client under Article 138. Manning has been in solitary confinement and for part of this week was again placed on suicide watch by the Quantico brig commander, according to his lawyers. The authorities are using suicide watch as a form of punishment "He was stripped of all clothing with the exception of his underwear. His prescription eyeglasses were taken away from him," Coombs wrote in the blog entry. "He was forced to sit in essential blindness with the exception of the times that he was reading or given limited television privileges. During those times, his glasses were returned to him." Qauntico public affairs were unable to confirm under military rules whether the complaint had been received.

FDA to Approve PET Scan For Alzheirmer's?

America's health care expenditure is about to go through the roof--without improving anyone's health! On January 19, 2011, the FDA expressed concerns about an Alzheimer's brain imaging PET scan that is said to detect amyloid plaques in the brain. FDA staff were concerned whether technicians can properly even read the scans, and they were concerned about how useful the scans are in assessing the neurodegenerative disease. FDA staff found "high variability" in reading the scans where imaging readers didn't always produce the same interpretation for each image and "no convincing evidence of benefit." Nevertheless, on January 21, an FDA advisory committee "recommended unanimously" approval of the PET brain scan manufactured by Avid Radiopharmaceuticals (now a subsidiary of Eli Lilly). Since there is as yet no medical treatment that can slow or reverse the disease, the only "historic advance" will be the billions of doll ars to be made from useless, costly PET scans that are likely to misdiagnose millions of people, and from the ineffective drugs with adverse side-effects that will, no doubt, be widely prescribed for people whose scans show plaques.

Peter Mandelson Is A *anker

Peter Mandelson - aka Le Petit Twerp - lands bank job
(Caption & Pic coutesy of One Click)

Paul Staines (Guido Fawkes) has another scoop after being first to report the news (now confirmed) that Peter Mandelson has joined the banking house Lazard Ltd. I must admit I had been fretting about poor old Peter, how was he making ends meet since his final attempt to cling on to power failed back in May? But Nigel Farage over at UKIP has reminded me why I needn't have worried, "Since he ceased to be a European Commissioner he has been receiving over £8000 a month in what is termed transitional relief. This money would have been cut if he had bothered to get a job, not something that would have been too difficult given his experience", he said. "But instead of going and getting a job, he continued to sit on the Euro dole for months living it up on the taxpayer. The transitional allowance to Lord Mandelson was stopped at the end of December. Now his dole has been cut, he gets a job."
