Riots Break Out Across Algeria

'In the capital Algiers, police fired tear gas and water cannons at young people hurling stones and glass bottles at security forces. On Friday, the official APS news agency said protesters ransacked government buildings, banks, and post offices in several eastern cities on Thursday night, such as Constantine, Jijel, Setif, and Bouira, The Guardian reported.

In Ras el Oued, buildings belonging to the state-run gas utility Sonelgaz, the council, and the tax authority, in addition to several schools, were seriously damaged, APS reported.'

Ashton Criticized for 'Shirking EU Duties'

'For the 17th time since January 2010, Britain's top representative to the European Union, Baroness Ashton again missed an entire Brussels meeting on Wednesday, leaving Britain without a voice in the most important EU law making forums, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Ashton's commitment to the job, for which she receives a salary of more than 230,000pounds a year, has been questioned by the UK officials and diplomats.

The EU Foreign Policy chief, who also works as European Commission's vice-president, earns more than any other British cabinet ministers, according to the report, but her performance has raised serious questions.'
