The State of Our Union:
The Seat of Liberty Has Been Vacated*

The arteries from which the lifeblood of liberty flows have been shut down on all fronts. The new Congress spends every waking moment battling to prevent the Constitution from being usurped. Meanwhile, the appendages of freedom around the world are disappearing at an alarming rate. Tyrannies, both Islamic and secular, have joined forces in the quest to bring America to her knees and gain a stranglehold over liberty’s domains. Our founders, who had experienced tyranny and fought against it relentlessly, would weep.

Our nation is one step away from being swallowed whole. Our current foreign policy has rendered us defenseless in the face of tyranny’s advances. It is not business as usual. The greatest threat in history to America is nearly upon us. Yet our leaders put this threat on the back burner.

“No matter what the leader of this country has done until now; no matter what he has taken from us so far; and no matter what financial burden we must bear, there is one thing we cannot permit him to bargain away – the soul of our nation. Here we must draw the line. While we may recoup our financial losses from his domestic policies, we can never reclaim the soul of this nation if we embrace a foreign policy that forfeits our stance against tyranny in this world. His foreign policy is leading to the destruction of the moral fabric that binds America to liberty’s decrees.

In order to preserve our country and save the free world, it is time to effect an immediate change in our nation’s political discourse. When the house of liberty is being burnt to the ground around the world, putting that fire out must be our nation’s top priority.

It is the responsibility of America, as the defender of the free world, to end the imminent global threat that Iran and the Islamic world pose. This is not Israel’s responsibility; it is America’s responsibility.

While both political parties concentrate on jobs and the economy as the key to righting America’s ship, our Odyssey of Freedom is about to slip below the waves. Yet, the key to righting the good ship America is to restore our identity and our true mission as defenders of freedom in the world. While Congress tackles our financial policies, which are leading to spiraling debt…America faces a far greater threat, and a far greater debt – one that she will never be able to repay – if the actions of those who sacrificed their lives to secure our freedoms were all in vain. What legacy will we leave our children if we compromise our core principles and bargain away the soul of our nation when the beacon of liberty is about to be extinguished?

We must not permit any legitimate protests concerning the Administration’s domestic policies to distract us from eliminating the immediate threat of foreign enemies. Protecting the principles of governance that sustain the freedoms is more important to our ultimate well-being than our concerns about the cost of oil or jobs.

Events that will shape the eternal face of humanity are now in progress. In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, situations are now arising that are so erratic that the boundaries separating reason from irrationality, democracy from tyranny, and a free competitive market from a global collective are threatening to be erased. These may well be replaced by the forces of treachery and deceit in all arenas of the human intercourse.

In the past, people became complacent; they ignored the line where tyranny begins and democracy ends, thus creating an after-the-fact society in our response to evil. This is the era that demands our total sobriety - a time when our finger must always be on the pulse of an enemy that threatens to destroy us. We must not miss a single beat - lest in the face of economic instability and social unrest we panic and abandon our open market of free ideas to seek protection in a global enterprise. We must not accept agreements from criminal enterprises in exchange for financial security and the false promise of peace. This an ideological road map that is guaranteed to bankrupt liberty’s trust fund in the future.

The leader of the Free World must choose to be guided by the star of liberty. Clearly, he has chosen otherwise, and in a few years’ time, how far will we stray from liberty’s home.

Despite differing opinions on the right and the left, when the seal that binds us in liberty’s name has been broken - and the contents of that accounting has been defiled by those in high office. At such a time, in such circumstance, there is only one option available to us that is sanctioned by our founding fathers; that is, to disengage from those who are silent partners in tyranny’s design.

The mission of America – the entire reason for our nation’s existence – is to establish, support and defend freedom. The head of the free world must accept this obligation. We must not let him disgrace our nation with a foreign policy that no longer represents Liberty’s just purpose and noble cause. We must take whatever steps necessary to insure that he fulfills America’s mission in dealing with Iran’s imminent threat – lest our odyssey of freedom sinks below the waves. The enemies of freedom no longer fear America’s resolve because our leader has proved weak. Yet clearly, the American people have rejected his leadership and maintain their resolve and commitment to the founding principles of our nation.

Now is the time to petition Congress to bring America’s foreign policy in line with its core values of freedom and liberty. We must have a foreign policy which again honors our noble traditions, and declares that nations whose constitutions honor Islamic tyranny and fascism as their protocol are not viable partners for peace. This crucial shift in our foreign policy can reset America's image as the stalwart of liberty’s decrees in the minds of our own people, our allies and, most importantly, in the minds of those nations which no longer fear our resolve.
