| Some sites - Lyttleton the epicentra - 10 kms from CHCH and the quake was 6.3 and 5 kms deep - hence worse than September 2010 quake. Still trying to find bodies - alive and dead - some are having limbs amputated to get them out. Japanese ESOL student had 2 legs amputated before they could get her out. Don't know if she survived. No water working, so no toilets allowed to be used. For drinking water they have to go to local school with containers and boil all water. Gas closed down and limited electricity supply. ATM and Banks out. All schools closed. Non Stop after shakes see http://quake.crowe.co.nz National emergency declared. The teams local and flown in are doing an amazing job with volunteers coming from all over the place. Great message from Obama and Michelle on behalf of American people. We are now friends again it would seem after they chucked us out after our anti-nuclear legislation which Obama is wanting all countries to now do !!!! Australia sent over 400 rescue team. All over the country resources are being sent to CHCH. Gerry wrote to the PM 2 weeks ago and told him amongst other things there would be another quake - scary. The night before there was a full moon and 100 beached whales - this happened in the September quake. All the work that has been done is now obsolete and they have to start again. TV1 and TV3 are on all day and night CHCH recovery. |
