Every Friday Christian Concern will bring you stories of fundamental significance to Christians and our Nation. To equip you to pray and act. To put the hope of Christ at the centre of our Nation. In this edition Thursday 5 May 2011 will see a National Referendum on our Westminster Parliamentary voting system and a host of elections – including those for the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly, the Northern Ireland Assembly and local government in Northern Ireland and many parts of England. On 7 February 2011 Culture Minister Ed Vaizey MP has a meeting with Internet Service Providers regarding the better regulation of internet pornography. Ed Vaizey will be asking the ISPs to block such material at source, to keep it off computers. This would entail switching the default setting for 'adult' content into our homes to ‘off’, and implementing an ‘opt-in’ system. A series called ‘The Joy of Teen Sex’ are being shown by Channel 4 which encourage sexual promiscuity amongst teenagers. These elections provide a great opportunity for Christians to be heard. We’re planning to produce resources to help you engage with the referendum and elections, and we would also encourage you to think about standing in one of the elections. There will be opportunities in many parties for Christians who wish to stand.
The Christian People’s Alliance is currently looking for Christians to stand as candidates in the forthcoming elections – especially in Scotland. You can find out more by visiting their website oremailing the party.
Would you or someone you know at church be able to stand? Our nation desperately needs Christians to be involved in public life. No prior experience is necessary and much help and advice is on hand – so why not give it some thought?Action Alert: Support campaign to stop internet pornography at source

Our 'Awake, Arise' day conferences seek to encourage Christians to engage with society robustly and relevantly at both the national and local level - and to provide the tools to do so. In partnership with various local churches, we have events coming up in the following areas over the next few weeks.
Why not join us, if you can? More details are available here.
Could you or church help to organise an event in your local area? If so, we'd love to hear from you - even if it's just a vague possibility at this stage.
