Huckabee says no Palestinian state in West Bank

T. Belman. Contrary to what this article suggests, Huckabee will probably not run for the Presidency. But what is important is that he has broken the mould making it easier for others to follow.

By ARON HELLER, SEATTLE TIMES

Potential 2012 U.S. presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Tuesday that if Palestinians want an independent state, they should seek it from Arabs – not Israel.

The evangelical minister and Fox News host said Jews should be allowed to settle anywhere throughout the biblical Land of Israel – an area that includes the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

He called the demand on Israel to give up land for peace an “unrealistic, unworkable and unreachable goal.”

Most of the international community – including President Barack Obama – considers Jewish settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem illegal because they are built on occupied land Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war. The Palestinians claim both areas for a future state....

Look what Obama’s support for Islamist group is doing

Muslim Brotherhood awakens terrorist wing

By Aaron Klein, WorldNetDaily

JERUSALEM – An Egyptian Islamist terrorist organization founded by the Muslim Brotherhood is re-establishing itself amid the political upheaval in Cairo, WND has learned.

Both Egyptian and Israeli security officials said the group, Al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya, is being reconstituted at the direction of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The officials affirmed Al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya serves as the de fact “military” wing of the Brotherhood, which originally founded Al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya.

Al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya is suspected of involvement in the 1981 assassination of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat and it took credit for the 1995 attempted killing of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. It has carried out scores of deadly terrorist attacks, some targeting foreign tourists.

The Muslim Brotherhood seeks to spread Islam around the world. Hamas and al-Qaida are violent Brotherhood offshoots. ...

Feith stands by Bush’s Freedom Agenda

Dictators and Hedgehogs
America could use a proper strategy for promoting reform in the Arab world.

By Douglas Feith, NRO

The philosopher Isaiah Berlin categorized political leaders as either foxes or hedgehogs. The fox, he explained, knows many things, while the hedgehog knows one big thing. Pres. George W. Bush was decidedly a hedgehog on the subject of Middle Eastern dictatorships. His repeated message — the essence of what he called his “freedom agenda” — was that the dictators can never have more than a tenuous hold on power. He said people naturally chafe under political oppression, and frustrated desires for a political voice were driving young Muslims into the ranks of the Islamist extremists.

Bush’s insight is being vindicated now on the streets of Cairo. Meanwhile, the American foreign-policy establishment’s wily foxes, who perceived the regimes of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and the Gulf as embodiments of stability, are not looking too astute.

Don’t underestimate Egyptian hatred of Israel

Democracy or Jew-Hatred? More Evidence of Anti-Semitism at the Egypt Protests

There is massive evidence to be found in the Western media of anti-Semitism and “anti-Zionism” at the Egypt protests. But images in the flickr streams of amateur local photographers are even more shocking and unambiguous.

In response to my PJM article documenting anti-Semitic imagery at the Egyptian protests, I’ve received several comments — both in public and in private — suggesting that, nevertheless, anti-Semitic and/or “anti-Zionist” sentiment among the protestors has played only a marginal role. The assurances to this effect are typically based on the first-hand accounts of Western observers or English-speaking participants with Western contacts. These accounts are supposed somehow to trump the clear pictorial evidence to the contrary.

The appearance of anti-Semitic and/or...

Egypt, Another Obama failure

[Obama will try to spin Egypt as a success. Don't let him.]

Egypt: a Foreign Policy Failure

by Stephen Brown, FrontPageMag, on Feb 8th, 2011

As predicted, President Barack Obama’s attempt last week to oust Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak from power failed miserably after he ran into a steel wall of opposition from the Egyptian president and his generals. Ignoring the pressure to resign, Mubarak showed Obama he will be the one who decides when he steps down and that he has the Egyptian military’s support in doing so. The White House’s plan to force Mubarak’s immediate departure not only exhibited an embarrassing lack of knowledge concerning Egyptian society and the danger a hasty coup would pose to Egypt’s fragile stability, but also that long-time American allies cannot rely on the Obama administration when in difficulty. This latest policy setback indicates, as has long been suspected, that in the area of foreign affairs, the Obama administration is in way over its head. ...

Is Israel losing Europe?

By Ted Belman

This was the title of the opening panel today at the Herzlia Conference. The Moderator pointed out that Israel had excellent relations with Europe in the fifties and sixties. Britain, France and Israel invaded the Sinai in ’56. France was the chief supplier of planes and weapons right up to the ’67 War. He said things cooled after ’67. In ’73 all European countries refused America landing rights on their way to resupply Israel, with the exception of Portugal. Thus the relationship was already rocky.

Silvan Shalom, Vice-PM started off. He is an articulate and passionate advocate. He reversed the question and asked is Europe loosing Israel. He accused Europe of favouring the Palestinians and said, if you want more influence, you have to be more balanceD.

He went on to say that the US is failing to support moderate regimes. She demanded Israel permit Hamas to compete in the elections and now Hamas controls Gaza. She negotiated Res 1701...

Herzliya Conference Day Two

By Ted Belman

The morning started out with a panel Can the World live with a Nuclear Iran. Ms Daniella Pletka with the American Enterprise Institute started out. She essentiall said all the talk coming from politicians is BS. Nobody will do anything. Ephraim Sneh, Frm Deputy Min of Def and Ephraim Halevey, Fmr Head of Mossad begged to differ, vehemently. They said what they meant and meant what they said. Iran won’t get the bomb. Brian Katulis, Sr Fellow at the Centre for American Progress, agreed but not so vehemently.

Da’wa to Jihad:The Nexus of Indoctrination and Violence was the second panel. The star of this panel was Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She told it like it is and often clashed with the other members of the panel who seemed to want to paint a prettier picture. Judith Miller, formerly with the NYT and book author on two books on radical Islam was a typical leftist. I was particularly upset with Dr Boaz Ganor the Executive Director of the International Institute for...
