No doubt you’ve been following the news of late.

Things are not looking good across the Middle East and elsewhere.

It seems to me that humanity is beginning to unravel.

The seeds of greed and stupidity sown in the last two decades are now producing the bitter fruit of austerity which could spark a global conflagration.

If things weren’t bad enough, food prices are set to go through the roof.

China’s Northern provinces are experiencing the worst drought in years.
Australia’s farming industry has been devastated, and Sri Lanka and Mexico have lost their staples for this year.
To top that off, Russia and Ukraine have an export ban on all strategic grain crops until the next harvest.
All we need now is for the US and Canadian grain harvests to fail and then we are definitely screwed.

When you tie all this into the prospect that the Middle East is likely to go up in a sheet flames, one wonders how humanity will survive the next twelve months.

My biggest fear is that we won’t have to wait 12 months before the global crisis escalates to a point of no return.

Iran, in an effort to safeguard its revolution from internal and external pressures may just decide to unite the Islamic world by attacking Israel.

Only this morning the BBC broke the news that two Iranian warships were heading for the Suez Canal.

This is the first time that Iranian warships have ventured this close to the Med since the Shah was ousted from power.

You can bet your bottom dollar that these two warships are carrying a heavy duty payload to be delivered right on Israel’s doorstep.

If these two Iranian warships enter the Med,

Israel will have no alternative but to launch a pre-emptive strike against them.

They will definitely try to sink the ships before they get anywhere close to Israel.

When this happens a chain of events will be set in motion and nothing will stop the Islamic world from venting its fury on Israel and her supporters.

America and Europe are already politically weak as far the Middle East is concerned, and the Iranians know this.

In the same way that Hitler was able to galvanize Germany’s population against the Jew, so too will Iran’s revolutionary council galvanize the Muslim world against the infidel.

Things are not much better in the Far East.

Tension is building between Russia and Japan over the Kuerile Islands, which the Russians seized at the end of the Second World War.

The Japanese want these islands back because they are reputed to hold large reserves of oil. Last week Russia sent extra troops and equipment to the Kuerile Islands to protect them against a possible Japanese invasion.

Further South, the situation in North Korea is likely to become more problematical than it has been of late.

China will not be able to feed its Southern neighbor in the coming year, as it has a food crisis of its own to contend with.

North Korea will have no choice but to take drastic action and its likely target will be South Korea and perhaps even Japan.

To my mind it looks like all the elements of a perfect storm are slowly coming together.

Perhaps when the Mayans designed their calendar, they did so in the knowledge that 2012 would be the year that the future of humanity would change forever.

They may have been right.
