Former European Union Commissioner for energy Andris Piebalgs  was the man that campaigned for the ban on the traditional lightbulb  that angered many people in the UK. Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Thorneloe, 39, was killed by a Taliban roadside  bomb in July 2009 after warning that the shortage of aircraft and equipment  was putting lives at risk.
