Christian Fostering Judgment – Action Points

As many of you know, Judgment on the Johns case was released this week by the High Court.

The Judges used the opportunity presented to them to make an extremely forceful case against the right to manifest Christian beliefs in the face of equalities legislation, which will influence the ability of Christians to foster children in the future.

The Johns are currently unable to foster children as the Court denied them the Declaratory Relief which could have put their application back on track.

There has been an incredible amount of media coverage over this case, with strong mainstream media support for the Johns.

See our original story here. For an update and further analysis from Christian Concern please see here.

Some of the commentary on the ruling includes:

Telegraph: Christianity isn’t dying, it’s being eradicated

Telegraph: Foster parents defeated by the new Inquisition

Spectator (Melanie Phillips): The judges' atheist inquisition

Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali discusses the case on Radio 5 Live

BBC Radio 4: Owen and Eunice Johns Interview

Scotsman: Michael Kelly: Court's decision is an insult to Christian beliefs

Action Points

We will shortly be announcing our wider, strategic response to this development. In the meantime, please help us by writing to your local MP (find them here).

Please make the following points in your own words, as politely as you can:
  • Please ask them whether they are aware of the Judgment and its implications regarding religious freedom.
  • Please offer your support for the Johns.
  • Please point out that Christians with orthodox sexual ethics should be allowed to foster or adopt children, and that to exclude them from doing so is discriminatory, and not in the best interests of children.
  • Please ask them what they are going to do to change this situation.
Please pray for legislation to be established that will protect Christian Freedoms.

Victory in Lap Dancing Case

We want to thank everyone who prayed for this case. We are delighted to be able to tell you that the local authority rejected the licence application for a sex venue to operate within yards of St Ebbes church in Oxford.

In a week where we have sought to proclaim Christian truth in the public square, we are delighted with this result at the Christian Legal Centre.

For further details of the story please see here.

A Christian Concern guide on the new law concerning sex establishments, and how they can be resisted, can be found here. It may be of interest to those who want to oppose local lap dancing clubs since the change in the law.
