Iron Dome Defense To Start Working Sunday in Southern Israel

Adar Bet 20, 5771, 26 March 11 10:48
(Israelnationalnews.com) Arutz Sheva reporter Kobi Finkler reported that the IDF will be installing two operative stations of the Iron Dome anti-missile system in southern Israel tomorrow, three months earlier than the date set for their operation.

The IDF reported: “This week we held several trials to check the system’s preparedness and their success has resulted in our being able to operate the system, starting tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Gazan terrorist organizations held a meeting on Saturday evening and announced that they are willing to agree to stop launching missiles towards Israel if Israel agrees to stop its air and artillery attacks on Gaza.
They did not allude to the many such offers they have broken nor to the fact that Israel’s military actions are retaliatory and preventive in nature, a result of the barrages of mortar fire, rockets and even several grad missiles that reached Beer Sheva, Ashkelon and Ashdod last week.
Hamas’ spokesman in Gaza said, “We guarantee a ceasefire if the ‘occupation forces’ guarantee the same” and added that the Hamas would see to it that the ceasefire is enforced. Another spokesman told the Israeli radio station, Radio Kol Chai, that "the ball is now in Israel's court."
This evening (Saturday) a kassam rocket from Gaza exploded in an open area in the Eshkol regional authority’s jurisdiction. There was no one wounded and no damage resulted. On Friday night, two kassam rockets were fired on Israel from Gaza. One exploded inside a community in the Eshkol region and severely damaged a home. The next door house also sustained damage, although no one was hurt. The second rocket landed in an empty area.
Youngsters will be going back to school tomorrow in Beer Sheva, Ashdod and Ashkelon after schools were closed in response to last week's grad missiles.

Head of IDF Southern Command: Hamas is in a State of Anarchy

Adar Bet 20, 5771, 26 March 11 11:48
by Rachel Sylvetsky and Uzi Baruch
(Israelnationalnews.com)

On a visit this weekend to the community in the Eshkol Regional Authority that was hit by a kassam rocket on Friday night, the Head of the IDF Southern Command, Tal Russo, said that
"The terror organizations in Gaza are have been in disarray since the Cast Lead Operation, but their memory is short." He expressed the hope that they would soon calm down after this week's firing of grad missiles on major cities and the Friday night rocket that caused severe damage to a home in the community he was visiting.
"Gaza's terror organizations are in a state of anarchy" he continued, "and that includes Hamas. They don't really talk to each other, they speak in artillery fire."
Asked about the possibility that the IDF would begin Operation Cast Lead II, he said that the IDF's goal is to let civilians lead normal lives, but that the present situation is not exactly normal. The anarchy o n the other side makes it hard for Hamas to go back to the former level of activity."

Ben-Ari Forces Police to Promise Return of Stolen Sheep
Adar Bet 18, 5771, 24 March 11 09:38by by Gavriel Queenann
(
Israelnationalnews.com) Realizing an ultimatum made by MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) to unilaterally act against Arab sheep thieves if police continue to look the other way, a group of several dozen Jews Thursday tried to recover a herd of sheep that was stolen from Jewish shepherds in Tel-Zion.
At about 2:00 A.M., a group of Arab rustlers entered the Jewish community of Tel-Zion and stole a flock of sheep worth 50 thousand dollars, smuggling them back to their own village of Qalandiya.
In an conversation with Israel National News, the flock's owner said, "Last night the Arabs stole 30 sheep. Just two years ago I suffered a similar theft and it took me a long time to recover. I built that herd myself and everything went down the drain."
"I went to the army and the police and they arrived at the scene and just told me 'don't worry,'" he continued. "I simply feel helpless. Nobody lifts a finger, I told the commander of the sector: if you are silent about the theft today it will cost human life tomorrow."
MK Michael Ben Ari then turned to Israel's Ministry of Public Security, and said: "If within three hours the security forces do not enter the village, I'll go to Qalandiya myself to pull out the herd. Today it's sheep, tomorrow it's slaughtered children. I will not allow an Itamar II."
At about 7:00 P.M. a group of several dozen Jews flocked to the entrance of Kochav Yaakov near Tel-Zion and, led by MK Ben-Ari, and his parlimentary aides Baruch Marzel and Itamar Ben-Gvir, headed for Qalandiya to liberate the sheep. MK Ben-Ari said, "Where the police will not act, we are forced to act to bring back our lost sheep."
According to Baruch Marzel, who spoke with Israel National News by telephone, the activists managed to evade police and army officers until they were within a few hundred meters of Qalandiya. Marzel said, "The officers promised us they would go in and return the sheep tonight. This is what we wanted... to force their hand. Before we did this they would not even speak with us."
Israel National Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld refused to discuss the incident itself, telling Israel National News, "I'm not going to deal with this right now because right now we're dealing with much more important things like heightened security and the marathon. This isn't important. Just to put things in perspective for you."
The problem of theft - and sometimes outright robbery - targeting Jewish farms by Arabs in southern Israel has been pervasive for many years, with losses to rapine rising to tens of millions of shekels per annum. Such incidents sometimes have tragic endings.
In January 2007, Jewish farmer Shai Dromi was aquitted of manslaughter after he was put on trial for killing one of four Bedouin men who poisoned his dog and came in the night to steal his flocks. Dromi, who feared for his life, shot at the men's legs in self-defense, but one of them died of bloodloss after the incident (Dromi did attempt to administer first aid at the time).
Dromi's case garnered national attention and resulted in the Dromi Law, which allows farmers to protect themselves and their property.

IDF downplays expectations from Iron Dome deployment

By YAAKOV KATZ
The Jerusalem Post -03/27/2011 01:19

Counter-rocket defense system to be deployed this week in an "operational test;" IAF prepared for possibility it will not work.

The IDF will deploy the Iron Dome counter-rocket defense system outside major Israeli cities this week amid increased rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.

The IAF Air Defense Division will complete the deployment of the first battery in the beginning of the week and the second battery towards the end of the week. The decision to deploy the system was made by Defense Minister
Ehud Barak, who came under pressure from residents of the South who are under missile fire.

The first battery will be deployed near Beersheba and the second battery near Ashkelon. IDF sources said, however, that the batteries were mobile and could be moved to other parts of the South per operational requirements.

Iron Dome is designed to defend against rockets at a range of 4-70 km. Each battery consists of a multi-mission radar manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries and three launchers, each equipped with 20 interceptors named Tamir.

The system has undergone a series of tests in recent weeks.

The IDF stressed that the deployment was part of what it called an “operational test” and that the Air Defense Division was prepared for the possibility that the Iron Dome will not work as expected.
