10 commandments of war

By George Jonas, National Post

Impeccable timing: Canada has military jets patrolling Libya as we’re about to go to the polls. If our new leader, whoever he turns out to be, needs 10 commandments carved in stone for his breakfast table, here are my suggestions.

1 Don’t go to war for any purpose but the defence of your country’s vital interests, and only if they cannot be secured any other way. Your responsibility is to protect your country and its military allies. It is not your responsibility to police the world or help your allies embark on military adventures, left-wing or right-wing. The much-vaunted doctrine of “responsibility to protect” (R2P) is bunk.

2 Don’t hide behind the first commandment to avoid protecting.Don’t hide behind the first comthings that are, in fact, your responsibility to protect. Do go to war, if need be, to defend the vital interests of your country and its military allies. Don’t let Western...

Goldstone recants…. sort of.

By Richard Goldstone, WaPo

By Ted Belman

I am happy he set the record straight even if it took him a few years to do so. But his report cannot be excused. The fact that his report found evidence of potential war crimes and “possibly crimes against humanity” by Israel is not a basis for condemning Israel or demanding she investigate 400 cases of alleged “operational misconduct”. Such things are an internal matter. And to make allegations of “intentionality” in situations where our fact-finding mission had “no evidence on which to draw any other reasonable conclusion”, is inexcusable. No conclusions should ever be drawn where a defense has not been heard.

Goldstone writes “the purpose of these investigations, as I have always said, is to ensure accountability for improper actions”. Since when has the UN ever held hearings to ensure accountability. What about Syria,...

American Jewry’s fight

[Given the statistics Caroline cites, it is hard to believe that American Jews support for Obama will exceed 50%.]

by Caroline Glick

It can only be hoped that the overwhelming majority of American Jews call and demand that all Jewish Federations stop allowing anti-Israel groups to feed from the communal trough.

Over the past year or so, American Jewish opponents of Israel like writer and activist Peter Beinart have sought to intimidate and demoralize Israelis by telling us that American Jews either no longer support us or will stop supporting us if we don’t give in to all the Arabs’ demands.

But statistical evidence exposes these threats as utter lies. According to mountainous survey evidence, the American Jewish community writ large remains deeply supportive of Israel.

Two surveys released last year by the American Jewish Committee and Brandeis University’s Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies showed that three quarters of American Jews care deeply about...

A Leftist Feminist’s Journey Out of the Political Faith

Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Rima Greene, a pro-Israel cadre who works half under the radar in Berkeley. She is a former leftist and counter-culture radical who has reinvented herself many times.

FP: Rima Greene, welcome to Frontpage Interview.

I would like to talk to you today about your own intellectual journey and your thoughts on the anti-Semitism that we find on the Left and feminist Left.

Let’s begin with your own background. Tell us about your own leftist past, how you came to the progressive faith and how you experienced it.

Greene: My parents were Yiddish-speaking “progressives.” They subscribed to IF Stone’s Weekly. But they were not party-liners. I got the feeling we were isolated partly because of their abhorrence of certain political things that had gone on. The Jewish community was divided around issues of being for or against the Soviet Union. My parents did not take hard-line stances. They mostly were reeling from...

Obama’s Islamist Middle East

By Jeffrey T. Kuhner, The Washington Times

President Obama is presiding over the end of American dominance in the Middle East. Across the region, U.S. power is receding – and radical Islam is filling the void. Mr. Obama has betrayed our allies and emboldened our enemies. He is slowly helping make the Middle East safe for jihadists, thereby undermining America’s national security.

Contrary to the spin of the mainstream media, the fever that is sweeping the Middle East is not some long-suppressed desire for political liberty. These are not secular democratic revolutions.

Instead, they represent the fury of subjugated peoples who have been deeply embittered by decades of autocratic rule, corruption and the pro-Western policies of their leaders. Many of the demonstrators despise America and Israel. They want one-man, one-vote democracy only once – to erect a theocratic state based on Shariah law.
