I thought Atlas readers would get a charge out of the dhimmedia's take on our win for free speech and for apostates in fear of their lives. Of course, the media ran to Muslim Brotherhood-tied CAIR for comment, not to apostates. Every news report cited Hamas-tied CAIR; not one asked aposates or would-be apostates. Where are the comments from Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Ibn Warraq, Wafa Sultan? This is more Islamic propaganda to enforce Islamic law of blasphemy (do not insult Islam) and reinforce sharia for converts out of Islam (death). Council of Islamic Relations of Michigan called the ads "another example of a hate group taking advantage of the First Amendment." Pot meet kettle. I mean really. US judge rules for Muslim defector bus ads by DAVID N. GOODMAN, Associated Press DETROIT (AP) -- A group that says it helps Muslims quit their faith has won a court order against Detroit's regional transitsystem for rejecting bus ads that ask, "Fatwa on your head? ... Leaving Islam? Got questions? Get answers!" The Michigan leader of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said the ruling is not the end of the matter and said his group respects the legal process. Executive Director Dawud Walid said the American Freedom Defense Initiative's ads are "designed to promote Islamophobia." DETROIT, April 2 (UPI) -- A judge has ruled an anti-Muslim group has the First Amendment right to run ads on public buses in the Detroit area. The American Freedom Defense Initiative went to court after the Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority refused to accept the ads, The Detroit News reported. The initiative is run by Pamela Geller, who also heads Stop Islamization of America and is one of the most vocal opponents of the so-called ground-zero mosque in New York. U.S. District Judge Denise Hood granted Geller's group a preliminary injunction Thursday. "This is a huge win, not just for us, but for the First Amendment," Geller said on the initiative's Web site. The ads, to be run on the side of buses, say: "Fatwa on your head? Leaving Islam? Refuge from Islam.com. Got questions? Get answers!" Victor Begg, an adviser to the Council of Islamic Relations of Michigan, said Muslims who want to leave the faith are free to do so. He called the ads "another example of a hate group taking advantage of the First Amendment." U.S. District Judge Denise Page Hood this week granted a preliminary injunction in favor of the American Freedom Defense Initiative; its executive director, Pamela Geller; and an associate director after hearing legal arguments last July. The organization, through its attorneys at the Ann Arbor-based Thomas More Law Center, sought to reverse the authority's refusal to display billboard ads stating: "Fatwa on your head? Is your family or community threatening you? Leaving Islam? Got questions? Get Answers!" A fatwa is a religious decree or opinion from a qualified Islamic cleric about the duty of Muslims on a specific subject. Certain fatwas from radical segments have been known in the past to sanction killing a nonbeliever. The American Freedom Defense Initiative, which opposed "Islamic supremacism" and offers to help Muslims leave the faith through its website, brought a lawsuit last March against SMART, General Manager John Hertel and Marketing Program Manager Beth Gibbons. The authority denied its application for billboard space on vehicle exteriors that SMART sells through CBS Outdoor Inc., citing a content restriction policy that bars advertising for "political or political campaign advertising" or ads that are "likely to hold up to scorn or ridicule any person or group of persons," according tocourt records. Hood ruled this week that the American Freedom Defense Initiative had a chance of proving in court that it had suffered "irreparable harm" from a First Amendment violation. "Given the arbitrary nature of SMART's policy and decision-making practices, (the American Freedom Defense Initiative and its directors) have a high likelihood of succeeding on the merits with respect to whether the restriction of their speech was unreasonable in this case," the ruling states. The ad says: “Fatwa on your head? Is your family or community threatening you? Leaving Islam? Got questions? Get Answers!” It also contains the website address for the organization. Ironically, an earlier ad placed on SMART buses by the Detroit Coalition of Reason, a collection of atheist, freethinker and humanist groups, was a key factor in the ruling. That ad said: “Don’t believe in God? You’re not alone.” The judge’s ruling was almost inevitable. SMART is a government agency that has allowed other groups to place controversial political and religious ads on their buses. It cannot, under numerous precedents, reject an ad based on its political or religious viewpoint or content. The advocacy group says the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation violated the group's First and 14th Amendment rights by rejecting the ads it submitted May 12. "There is a strong likelihood," the judge wrote, that the ad's promoters could show that the bus company's decision to reject the ads "was not reasonable but rather arbitrary and capricious." Hood set a conference on the case for April 11. Richard Thompson, president of the Ann Arbor-based center, said Hood's decision "represents a victory for free speech, but the battle is not over." Thompson's group filed suit in U.S. District Court in Detroit on behalf of the group sponsoring the ads and group leaders Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer. Geller leads an organization called Stop Islamization of America, and Spencer is head of the group Jihad Watch. The Detroit area has one of the nation's most concentrated Muslim populations. About 300,000 people in the area have roots in the Arab world. The Michigan leader of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said the ruling is not the end of the matter and said his group respects the legal process. Executive Director Dawud Walid said the American Freedom Defense Initiative's ads are "designed to promote Islamophobia." "This organization has been designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group in the same way as the Ku Klux Klan," Walid said. The ads are headlined, "Leaving Islam?" The text says: "Fatwa on your head? Is your family or community threatening you? Got questions? Get answers!" Geller said the ads have run on buses in New York and Miami. "I am thrilled, not just for the protection of free speech, but for those living in danger who will be helped by our freedom buses," Geller said in a posting on her website. AFDI was not named as a hate group, but CAIR just lies and lies and lies and expects no one will call Dawud on his dawah. For those, like me, who can't get enough of her fabu stuff :) Saturday Night Cinema tonight features an endearing performance by Elizabeth Taylor in Life With Father. Of course I'd love to runSuddenly Last Summer or watch the onscreen love affair blossom between Liz and Dick in Cleopatra, but alas, there are few of La Liz's films in the public domain. And while I have little use for the New York Times, as regular Atlas readers are no doubt painfully aware, I love running their movie reviews, most especially from the 20s, 30s, and 40s, because it reflects a more urbane, humane, and moral culture, a lovely aesthetic, and profound love of the American exceptionalism that underlies everything and infuses every aspect of the golden era of movie making and America (before the cultural and intellectual coup). Glorious to behold. A round-robin of praise is immediately in order for all those, and they were many indeed, who assisted in filming "Life With Father." All that the fabulous play had to offer in the way of charm, comedy, humor and gentle pathos is beautifully realized in the handsomely Technicolored picture, which opened yesterday at the Warner (formerly the Hollywood) Theatre. William Powell is every inch Father, from his carrot patch dome to the tip of his button-up shoes. Even his voice, always so distinctive, has taken on a new quality, so completely has Mr. Powell managed to submerge his own personality. His Father is not merely a performance; it is character delineation of a high order and he so utterly dominates the picture that even when he is not on hand his presence is still felt. The Warner Brothers have kept faith with both the letter and the spirit of the play fashioned by Howard Lindsay and Russel Grouse from the late Clarence Day's memoirs of his father. Most of the action still takes place in the living room of the Day residence, 420 Madison Avenue. The atmosphere of the period, 1883, is recaptured with all the rich flavor of a Currier & Ives print, even though Father's "damns" have been excised. But his thunderous "oh, gads!" and explosive "what in tar-nations" are carefully preserved in the screen play written by Donald Ogden Stewart. However, while the camera provides a scope and fluidity of action which necessarily was missing on the stage, the benefits thus derived are more of a pictorial than a dramatic nature, for the pace of the story always accelerates when the camera is simply reproducing scenes as done on the stage. It sounds a bit absurd to be saying after all these years—eight to be exact—that "Life With Father" is the perfect family entertainment and that in it most everyone will notice a resemblance to something in his own family life. But that's the way it is, and perhaps there are some late comers who would like to know just a little about this domestic classic. Actually, "Life With Father" is not so much a story as it is a reflection of little incidents, which agitate a short tempered, despotic parent They are the kind of crises peculiar to family life, where a prudent husband and father of four sons attempts to run his home on a business-like basis. While Father goes into a towering rage at the slightest provocation, stamping his feet at the breakfast table when the coffee isn't right, he is at heart a very kind, tolerant and sympathetic old man (and we use that term most affectionately). For all his bluff and independence, Father would be lost without his patient, understanding wife, and one feels genuinely sorry for him in his hour of anxiety when mother lies ill upstairs and the doctors give him small comfort. It is almost unpardonable not to have mentioned Irene Dunne before this because she interprets Vinnie Day with charm, wit and an exactness that perfectly complement Mr. Powell's Father. The way she finally cajoles her rebellious husband into making the journey up to Audubon Park to submit to the baptismal rites which his parents had somehow overlooked is handled by Miss Dunne with great charm and feminine wile. The four Day boys—all redheads, naturally—are pleasingly played by Jimmy Lydon, the eldest, who has a crush on the visiting Mary Skinner; Martin Milner as John, the inventor; Johnny Calkins as Whitney, who would rather play baseball than study his catechism, and Derek Scott as little Harlan, who worries about meeting his un-baptized father in heaven. Elizabeth Taylor is very appealing as Mary Skinner, and other fine performances are contributed by Edmund Gwenn as the Rev. Dr. Lloyd; ZaSu Pitts as Cousin Cora and a string of maids too numerous to mention here. "Life With Father" has been expertly staged by the resourceful Michael Curtiz, who has made certain that none of the essential comedy is overdrawn. The Warner Brothers can be proud of a job well done and the rest of us thankful that a classical slice of Americana has been preserved intact. One such expert, Dr. Colwell-Chanthaphonh, dismissed museum officials' contention that the human remains would be hidden, “they are essentially incorporating the human remains room into the visitor experience.” He also raised the question of consent, noting that in the celebrated “Body Worlds” exhibitions, every individual whose body was put on display had signed a form giving permission. None of these 911 family members gave consent. And when museum curators circulated a petition among their peers “trying to apply some pressure” on the museum, 911 museum officials contacted them. “They said we were being manipulated by the advocacy groups, that there was another side to the story and that we needed to talk to them.” How depraved are these tyrants? These families want their loved ones remains respected and these grossly overpaid bureaucrats call them "advocacy groups." We must help the 911 families rescue their loved ones' remains from becoming a circus sideshow: Email to Joe Daniels, President, 9/11 Memorial Museum: Email Mayor Bloomberg, Chairman, 9/11 Memorial Museum For 9/11 Museum, Dispute Over Victims’ Remains NY Times IN one of the haunting legacies of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the remains of 1,123 of the victims, 41 percent of the total, have not been identified, leaving many of their relatives yearning for closure. At the same time, nearly 10 years later, 9,041 pieces of human remains — mainly bone fragments but also tissue that has been dehydrated for preservation — are still being sorted through by the city’s medical examiner for DNA, though the last time a connection was made was in 2009. Now, a dispute over what to do with those fragments of humanity is simmering between some of the victims’ families and the officials planning the National September 11 Memorial and Museum underneath where the twin towers stood. Officials plan to take the grisly souvenirs seven stories below ground and place them in the new museum behind a wall with a quotation from Virgil about never forgetting, studded in letters of World Trade Center steel. But the families, appalled by the idea of remains that could belong to their loved ones being turned into a lure for tourists, want them kept in a separate above-ground memorial that would be treated like hallowed ground. “To allow remains to be put in a museum, really for gawkers,” marveled Sally Regenhard, the mother of a 28-year-old probationary firefighter and aspiring writer, Christian, who died on Sept. 11, 2001. “I personally feel I’ve been robbed of access to where my son’s remains are potentially being buried. My entire family, we will never go in there. This is a post-traumatic stress situation waiting to happen.” How to handle remains is one of the most delicate questions that confront those trying to commemorate the darker chapters of human history. Over the past 20 years, museums across the country have grappled with how to repatriate Native American skeletons, scalps and bones to their tribal heirs, as prescribed by a 1990 federal law. At its inception, the United StatesHolocaust Memorial Museum in Washington debated whether to display human hair from the Nazi death camps, and decided not to when some survivors felt it would be offensive. The plan at the World Trade Center is for the remains to be invisible and inaccessible to the public, museum officials said; an adjoining room will be available to victims’ families for contemplation and grief. Although people would have to enter the museum to get to the remains, the remains will technically be in the custody of the medical examiner, so that they may be removed for future testing. Alice Greenwald, the museum’s director, said that because the museum would be at ground zero, it had a special place in history. “Yad Vashem is not the site of an atrocity,” Ms. Greenwald said. “When you go to the genocide museum in Phnom Penh, when you go to genocide museums all around Rwanda, there have been decisions in those places to present corpses, skulls, evidence of human remains. When you go to Auschwitz, the entire facility is made up of human remains. “Most American museums have not confronted the particular issue that we are dealing with here,” she added. “The only place one could repatriate those remains to is the Word Trade Center site.” Indeed, Ms. Greenwald said that was what a “majority of families have actually said over the years” that they wanted. Certainly, not all of the victims’ relatives oppose the plan: some are on the museum’s board. The dissenting families, including some of the most active and vocal leaders of the victims’ groups that sprang up in the aftermath of the attack, say that they supported a plan for placing the remains in something akin to the Tomb of the Unknowns, separate from the museum, but that they were shocked to learn that instead they would be housed near the main exhibition spaces. Several families said that officials sent letters to the heirs of all 2,752 victims, asking for the proper spelling of their names for panels that would adorn the memorial plaza, but that they learned of the new plan only by chance, when they attended a presentation about the museum at St. Paul’s Chapel, in Lower Manhattan, in 2009. “The names were important to us, of course, but what could be more important than our loved ones’ remains?” asked Rosaleen Tallon, whose brother, Sean, a probationary firefighter, was killed when the north tower collapsed. Those upset about the plans contacted David Hurst Thomas, a curator at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, who then brought in Chip Colwell-Chanthaphonh, an expert on the repatriation of Native American remains at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Dr. Colwell-Chanthaphonh dismissed the argument from museum officials that the remains would be hidden, saying that the Virgil quotation meant “they are essentially incorporating the human remains room into the visitor experience.” He also raised the question of consent, noting that in the celebrated “Body Worlds” exhibitions, every individual whose body was put on display had signed a form giving permission. “We know none of those individuals gave their consent to be on display or part of a museum exhibit,” Dr. Colwell-Chanthaphonh said of the 9/11 victims. “And we know there are lineal descendants and people in this community who are saying, ‘We want a role in this,’ and yet their requests for meaningful consultation are being denied to them.” Shortly after the two curators circulated a nationwide petition among their colleagues, “trying to apply some pressure” on the museum, Dr. Colwell-Chanthaphonh said, officials contacted them. “They said we were being manipulated by the advocacy groups, that there was another side to the story and that we needed to talk to them.” The curators and family groups met in June, but were unable to come to a resolution. As the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks approaches — and, with it, the scheduled opening of the first part of the memorial — concern is resurfacing. To Rosemary Cain, who lost her firefighter son, George, putting the remains in the same space as the museum is “like a freak show.” Ms. Regenhard said she imagined having to squeeze past hordes of museum-goers, retracing the steps of victims trying to escape the burning World Trade Center, to get to what may be her son’s remains. Joe Daniels, the memorial and museum’s president, disagreed. “What the families need most and what the public needs most is a memorial they can come to to pay their respects at,” he said, “and a museum where they can come to learn about events; not reopening decisions that were made in the past.” Read the rest. I am very glad the NY Times addressed this crime. Pamela Hall was there, and she'll have video and pics posted this weekend. Your taxpayer dollars at work. Al Jazeera is being broadcast on MHz Networks, a division of Commonwealth Public Broadcasting, which receives over three million in taxpayer dollars. Would we have subsidized Tokyo Rose or the Mufti Al Husseini's radio broadcasts during World War II? Well, that's exactly what we are doing now. Commonwealth Public Broadcasting is a "public supported charity" exempt from federal income tax. A complaint has been filed with the FCC. This is in violation. Contact Peter King's office and demand hearings. Al Jazeera is totally owned and paid for by the Emir of Qatar, whose net worth is upwards of two billion dollars, and yet we are subsidizing his Muslim Brotherhood propaganda. How our Secretary of State Hillary Clinton can describe Al Jazeera as giving real news is beyond the pale. Al Jazeera's target is clear -- to enable and assist jihadi groups to overthrow the US-allied regimes. Al Jazeera's role in Egypt reminds Jerry Kenney of the arsonist who wants credit for the ferocity of the fire and destruction. 1.2 billion lawsuit against Al Jazeera in the Southern District by the Israel, Canadian and American families of the victims for assissting Hezballah. Partial text of my remarks. "The language of lies." No organization has done as much damage to spread hate, lies and incitement to violence as Al Jazeera. Al-Jazeera is the leading terrorist propaganda organization in the world. Jihad murder mastermind Anwar al-Awlaki has praised al-Jazeera, and several years ago one of its most prominent reporters was arrested on terror charges. Al-Jazeera also has for years been the recipient of numerous al-Qaeda videos featuring bin Laden, Zawahiri, and American traitor Adam Gadahn. Yet they never seem to be able to trace where these videos are coming from. They have repeatedly been set up at the point of attack right before the bomb went off, so that they could take the picture of the slaughtered, dismembered bodies. How did they know? They are no different from al-Manar, the “broadcast” station for Hizballah. And al-Manar is designated a terrorist organization by the State Department. It’s clear to any objective observer that al-Jazeera is sympathetic to the global jihad, and a strong case can be made that it is complicit in those jihadist activities. In November 2010, ninety-one American, Israeli and Canadian victims of Hizballah rocket attacks filed an unprecedented lawsuit against Al-Jazeera in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, charging that al-Jazeera “intentionally provided real-time coverage of the locations of missile strikes inside Israel in violation of Israeli security regulations, thereby enabling Hezbollah to aim its missiles more accurately.” The war in the information battle-space is as critical as what goes on in the battlefields of Afghanistan, Iraq and now Libya. The violent jihadi attacks in America, Europe, India, Israel, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Thailand, Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia, et al, constitute but one front in the global jihad. The propaganda is just as critical, if not more so, as we witness whole regions succumbing to the most radical and extreme ideology on the face of the earth. Islam is the only religion with a propaganda arm, and its most powerful outlet for dissemination of disinformation, Islamic Jew-hatred, scrubbing of ethnic cleansing, gender apartheid, jihadi wars, land appropriations and cultural annihilations is Al-Jazeera. Reasoned and rational free men have long known the pernicious influence of this jihadist news organization. But the recent legitimization and outrageous “lauding” of their coverage by mainstream news outlets is not only dangerous, but it’s civilizational suicide. Stop the expansion of the enemy propaganda in the United States. Al-Jazeera is also closely tied to the Muslim Brotherhood, an international Islamic supremacist organization dedicated in its own words, according to a captured internal document, to “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within.” Ikhwanweb.com, the website of the Brotherhood, has praised al-Jazeera as “the Greatest Arab Media Organization." According to Zvi Mazel, a former Israeli ambassador to Egypt, al-Jazeera is “under a very heavy influence of the Muslim Brothers. The director general of al-Jazeera, Wadah Khanfar is a Muslim Brother." Arab scholar Mamoun Fandy calls Al-Jazeera "the Muslim Brotherhood channel." He explained that "Al-Jazeera … is already propagandizing for the organization. … If you watch a debate program presented on Al-Jazeera … you will be amazed at the supreme effort … to defend the Muslim Brotherhood." Pierre Akel, founder and editor of the noted Arabic web site Metransparent.com, agreed, saying: "When it comes to satellite television in the region, Al-Jazeera is controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood." Tunisian democracy activist Khaled Shawkat wrote: "Al-Jazeera has been hijacked by the Muslim Brotherhood organization." The Brotherhood’s leading spiritual authority, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, is a foremost presence on al-Jazeera. Qaradawi has justified and praised suicide attacks against Israeli civilians, the death penalty for apostates from Islam, and other Islamic supremacist positions. The liberal Muslim Abu Khawla wrote that “in the case of Al-Jazeera, preacher Al-Qaradawi (a leading figure of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood) is one of its most influential founding members. And fundamentalists are in charge of its news programs and talk shows." Journalist Youssef Ibrahim added: "One of the most eminent leaders of the Ikhwan movement, who appears weekly on Al-Jazeera's ‘Sharia and Life' program, is Sheik Yusuf Al-Qaradawi. He has specifically ruled that Americans in Iraq and Israelis everywhere should be targeted by suicide bombers, who will be considered martyrs and heroes." Mr. Ibrahim also noted that Sheik Qaradawi "ranks among the top 10 leaders of the Ikhwan's international ruling councils." The Ikhwan is the Muslim Brotherhood. The supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mahdi Akef, appeared on Al-Jazeera on July 30, 2006, and said: "This American Satan claims to be a messenger of divine guidance. ... I salute all the honorable Americans who stand up to this Satan, who wants to set the entire world on fire, not just the Arab and Islamic nation. I go back to the issue of jihad. Jihad is an individual duty incumbent upon every Muslim." In line with all this was the recent Wikileaks revelation that Mossad Director Meir Dagan predicted that al-Jazeera would be the next cause of war in the Middle East. Now Al Jazeera is in talks with Comcast and Time Warner to bring Al Jazeera’s Children’s Channel to the U.S. as early as 2012. Programming on that channel includes Saladin, a cartoon that tells the story of the Crusades from the vantage point of a Muslim warrior, and a documentary about children living in the Gaza Strip that bewails trumped-up Israeli “atrocities." Al Jizz implies that the preacher made 'em do it; that's how in control the Muslim world is of the narrative. Eight foreign employees of the United Nations in Afghanistan have been killed after protesters overran their compound in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif. Two of the dead were beheaded by attackers who also burned parts of the compound and climbed up blast walls to topple a guard tower, said Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai, a police spokesman for the northern region. It is believed to be the deadliest ever attack on the UN in Afghanistan. Over a thousand protesters had flooded into the streets of the normally peaceful city after Friday prayers to denounce the burning of Islam's holy book, the Koran, by a US pastor, and after two or three hours violence broke out. Police fired into the air in an unsuccessful bid to control the crowd. A United Nations spokesman confirmed employees had been killed but declined to comment on numbers of dead or their nationalities, saying reports from the scene were confusing. Staffan De Mistura, the top UN diplomat in Afghanistan, has flown to Mazar-i-Sharif to handle the situation personally. A police source, who declined to be named as he was not authorised to speak to the media, said protesters had stormed into the compound where they attacked the victims. The chief of the mission in the city was wounded but survived, and the dead included employees of Norwegian, Romanian and Swedish nationalities, he added. Russia called on the Afghan government and international forces to "take all necessary measures" to protect UN workers in a statement issued by the foreign ministry after the attack. If the death toll given by the Afghan police is correct, it would make it the deadliest attack on the United Nations in Afghanistan. The worst previous attack was an insurgent assault on a guesthouse where UN staff were staying in October 2009. Five employees were killed and nine others wounded. But it was not clear if Friday's killings had any direct link to the insurgency, or were simply a product of broader anti-Western sentiment. Mazar-i-Sharif has remained relatively peaceful as the insurgency gathers force in other parts of the north, and was recently chosen as one of the first areas for a transition of security from Nato troops to Afghan forces. Long-standing anger over civilian casualties has been heightened by the Koran burning and the recent publication of gruesome photographs of the body of an unarmed Afghan teenager killed by U.S. soldiers. The Christian preacher Terry Jones, who after international condemnation last year cancelled a plan to burn copies of the Koran, supervised the burning of the book in front of a crowd of about 50 people at an obscure church in Florida on Sunday, according to his website. The Koran burning was denounced by Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, and Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari. "The special representative to the [UN] Secretary General, Stephane de Mastura, is on his way to Mazar-i-Sharif now to deal with the situation personally on the ground," the spokesperson said. Daud Daud, commander of Afghan National Police in the north, said five Nepalese guards were amongst those killed. Islamists Are Elated by Revolts, Cleric Says NY TIMES “The mujahedeen around the world are going through a moment of elation,” Mr. Awlaki wrote in a new issue of the English-language Qaeda magazine Inspire, “and I wonder whether the West is aware of the upsurge of mujahedeen activity in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, Arabia, Algeria and Morocco?” Mr. Awlaki’s four-page essay, titled “The Tsunami of Change,” is among a handful of statements by Al Qaeda’s leaders countering the common view among Western analysts that the terrorist network looks irrelevant at a time of change unprecedented in the modern Middle East. In ousting the rulers of Tunisia and Egypt and threatening other Arab leaders, a core of secular-leaning demonstrators have called for democracy and generally avoided violence — all at odds with Al Qaeda’s creed as it tries to instill rigid Islamist rule across the world. In an audio statement this month, the Egyptian deputy to Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahri, pleaded with the Egyptians who toppled President Hosni Mubarak to shun the United States, reject democracy and embrace Islam as the answer to their problems. Arguing that Al Qaeda deserved some indirect credit for the uprisings, he said the United States’ willingness to drop its support for Mr. Mubarak and other authoritarian leaders was a “direct result” of the Sept. 11 attacks. Mr. Awlaki’s essay is more colloquial and confident, asserting that the momentous change in Arab countries left Western leaders “confused, worried, and unhappy for the departure of some of its closest and most reliable friends.” He quotes American commentators who describe the uprisings as a refutation of Al Qaeda, including Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s assertion last month that “the success of peaceful protests has discredited the extremists.” Mr. Awlaki, who is thought to be hiding in Yemen, argues that such conclusions are premature. “The outcome doesn’t have to be an Islamic government for us to consider what is occurring to be a step in the right direction,” he writes. By “breaking the barriers of fear” and toppling leaders who protected “American imperial interests,” he asserts, the uprisings should play to the long-term advantage of Al Qaeda’s philosophy. He points to Yemen and Libya, where embattled leaders are clinging to power, as places where turmoil could open possibilities for jihadists to organize. Mr. Awlaki’s statement comes as some American officials have expressed anxiety about just that possibility. In Libya, an American military official said this week that there were “flickers” of intelligence suggesting that Qaeda or Hezbollahoperatives were among the rebels fighting Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi. And in Yemen, President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s weakening grip on power could take pressure off Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Expressing hope that revolution will spread from Yemen to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Awlaki asks, “Doesn’t the West realize how the jihadi work would just take off as soon as the regimes of the Gulf start crumbling?” Posted by Pamela Geller on Friday, April 01, 2011 at 11:29 AM in Global Jihad 2011 | Permalink | Comments (8) ShareThis This should be good. Geert Wilders to Launch Fitna 2 in 2012 In 2008, Dutch MP Geert Wilders released the 17-minute documentary Fitna, which demonstrates how the Koran encourages acts of terrorism, anti-Semitism, violence against women, homosexuals and infidels. Today, Mr. Wilders announced that next year he will release Fitna 2. The topic of this new documentary will be the figure of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. If you think Obama is merely confused, I got a bridge in Brooklyn that has your name on it. This is pure chaos, and the media's delivery of such insane news in a sober and matter-of-fact fashion is even more insane. As NATO takes over control of airstrikes in Libya, and the Obama administration considers new steps to tip the balance of power there, the coalition has told the rebels that if they endanger civilians, they will not be shielded from possible bombardment by NATO planes and missiles, just as the government’s forces have been punished. “We’ve been conveying a message to the rebels that we will be compelled to defend civilians, whether pro-Qaddafi or pro-opposition,” said a senior Obama administration official. “We are working very hard behind the scenes with the rebels so we don’t confront a situation where we face a decision to strike the rebels to defend civilians.” The warnings, and intense consultations within the NATO-led coalition over its rules for attacking anyone who endangers innocent civilians, come at a time when the civil war in Libya is becoming ever more chaotic, and the battle lines ever less distinct. They raise a fundamental question that the military is now grappling with: who in Libya is a civilian? Qaddafi. Qaddafi's a civilian. Finally, I understand what the left meant when they shreiked "quagmire" during the Bush years, and yet I haven't heard it uttered once. Muslim on Muslim hate crime? How's that? But it gets even more convoluted. John Bolton in January 2007 said here: It could be we are coming to a day of reckoning here on resolution 1701 and whether the cessation of hostilities that was established between Hezb'Allah and Israel is going to remain acceptable. I would hope the United States in the near future begins to take the next step that we made a conscious decision not to make in 1701 and that is disarming Hezb'Allah. The unspoken premise of 1701 was first you stop them from getting external assistance by imposing an arms embargo but then the next step is to disarm Hezb'allah and we have not done anything on that. We are at the point , we have got to move to that second step. Ya think? Look at this map. These "people" live solely to annihilate the Jewish people. Look at it. Without their all consuming Jew hatred, what on earth would they do with their worthless lives? Not in Washington, apparently, where the Obama administration is considering reaching out to "nonmilitary components" in Hizballah and Hamas that they suppose "can be drawn into a dialogue." Remember also that in 2004, U.N. Resolution 1559 demanded the disarmament of all Lebanese militia groups. Hizballah is the only group from Lebanon's civil war that failed to do so. They have had seven years not only to ignore this resolution (just like almost everyone else has where Hizballah is concerned), but to build an even larger army in defiance of it. There is one constant in Obama's foreign policy: he has consistently sided with our worst enemies throughout his disastrous presidency. This is very thoroughly explained and meticulously documented in my book, The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration's War on America. Why Libya? It would be one thing if Obama had been fighting the forces of jihad through a muscular foreign policy. News has "leaked" that Obama authorized a secret war in Libya weeks ago -- imagine if a Republican ever pulled a fatal stunt like that. And if it was secret, why is Obama leaking it? Why Libya? Why wasn't such action taken when millions took to the streets in Iran, so as to cut off the head of the snake? June 17th, 2009: BACKING THE MULLAHS: OBAMA'S COWARDICE AND HYPOCRISY IN IRAN Iran has been supporting the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, the unrest in Bahrain, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. You don't go to war at once, you go to war at last. And Iran has been at war with us and the free world for decades. Instead, our finest, bravest Americans are risking their lives to fight alongside al qaeda in Libya. What could possibly be the end game here, whilst Al-Qaeda is snatching missiles in Libya? The "rebels" that Obama has secretly authorized to arm sold Hizballah and Hamas chemical shells. I am not a fan of Gaddafi -- there are no heroes in this story -- but Saddam Hussein made Gaddafi look like Angelina Jolie, and yet the left is still whining and hand wringing about that war. But they support this. What is their premise? Bush went to Congress and went to the UN (and gave Saddam, the butcher of Baghdad, a year to move and/or destroy his weapons of mass destruction). Obama just went to war -- without Congress, without even discussing it with the American people. And again I ask, as I have repeatedly for weeks, why? Why Libya? Why Gaddafi? Assad in Syria is much worse than, say, Mubarak in Egypt, but Obama vows not to interfere in that vassal of Iran, despite the slaughter of their people. And Obama supports the Muslim Brotherhood, which is steadily taking control in Egypt. To what end? Why hasn't Obama taken such action against the jihad pirates in Somalia? Why not a "secret war" in Ethiopia to aid their fight against the jihad? Or aid for the fight against jihad in Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia? Because we can't be everywhere, nor should we be. So we pick our fights based on where we could do the most good and remove the biggest evil. Iran should have been the target. The mullahcracy should have been removed. Why Libya? Exclusive: Obama authorizes secret help for Libya rebels | Reuters WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama has signed a secret order authorizing covert U.S. government support for rebel forces seeking to oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, government officials told Reuters on Wednesday. Obama signed the order, known as a presidential "finding", within the last two or three weeks, according to four U.S. government sources familiar with the matter. Such findings are a principal form of presidential directive used to authorize secret operations by the Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA and the White House declined immediate comment. News that Obama had given the authorization surfaced as the President and other U.S. and allied officials spoke openly about the possibility of sending arms supplies to Gaddafi's opponents, who are fighting better-equipped government forces. Imagine that a bill seeking to prevent "a court or other enforcement authority" from enforcing foreign law in Alaska is "divisive." To whom, exactly? As for setting off a "political firestorms," it's more like a Muslim Brotherhood supremacist hissy fit. Bill to stop Sharia law called divisive News Tribune JUNEAU -- Palmer Republican Rep. Carl Gatto has set off a political firestorm with a bill aimed at stopping what he deems as the potential of Islamic religious law -- Sharia -- trumping the U.S. Constitution in Alaska courts. Gatto said he has strong support of Mat-Su Valley tea party groups and has received nearly 500 emails and phone calls from places like New Zealand, Poland and Israel in support of his bill. It's part of a push nationally by conservative state legislators, with similar measures introduced in more than a dozen states. A Muslim group in Anchorage says Gatto is spreading an anti-Islam message and the Alaska Civil Liberties Union argues the bill could have unintended legal consequences. The Alaska Department of Law, meanwhile, testified it's hard to see the bill having any real effect as U.S. law already reigns supreme in Alaska's courts. Gatto said he grew up in New York City, where his Italian neighborhood clung to technically illegal customs like giving a child whiskey to help with illness. But the world of other immigrants is different, he argued. "I'm more concerned about cultures that are vastly different from European immigrants, who come here and prefer to maintain their specific laws from their previous countries, which are in violent conflict with American law," Gatto said. "That's the issue that I am worried about." Gatto's proposal, House Bill 88, says Alaska courts can't apply foreign law if it would violate an individual's rights guaranteed by the Constitutions of the United States or the state of Alaska. Gatto doesn't have examples of Alaska courts imposing Islamic Sharia law but said his bill is determined to make sure that it doesn't happen. A member of the Islamic Community Center of Alaska sent an email addressed to Gatto saying 4,000 to 6,000 Muslims live peacefully in Alaska and asking him to "please do not ignite hate and misunderstanding." Another Muslim from Anchorage, Lamin Jobarteh, said Muslims follow U.S. law. There is no Sharia law in Alaska, he said. How does protecting individual rights ignite hate? "There is nothing like that. We have a harmonious relationship with everybody here," said Jobarteh, who said he's originally from Gambia and has lived in Anchorage for the past 17 years. It's become an issue throughout the nation. Oklahoma voters in November approved a ban against state judges considering Islamic law in making their court decisions. The ban is tied up in court. The sponsor of the Oklahoma ban pointed to a family court judge in New Jersey citing a man's Islamic faith in denying a restraining order to a woman who said she had been raped by her husband. The ruling was overturned by a higher court. A model for the anti-Sharia bills around the country came from an Arizona attorney named David Yerushalmi. The Anti-Defamation League has called him a bigot for past writings such as, in an article commenting on murders of blacks by blacks in New York, said it appeared to be a "relatively murderous race killing itself" and that "Muslim civilization is at war with Judeo-Christian civilization." Yerushalmi said in an emailed response this week that his words have been twisted, that he doesn't countenance racism and that "Sharia is an objective and knowable legal system that is offensive to our constitutional liberties." The ADL is reprehensible. Yerushalmi is righteous. Foxman is a quisling. The Council on American-Islamic Relations called on Gatto to drop his invitation for Stop Islamization of America Executive Director Pamela Geller to testify at a Wednesday hearing on his bill, saying she leads a hate group. Gatto shrugged off the request. "Anybody can make a statement that if they are opposed to your point of view they're a hate group," Gatto said. A New York Times profile of Geller that ran last fall described the growing influence of her web site, Atlas Shrugs, and her posting of doctored photos of Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan in a Nazi helmet and suggestion that the State Department was run by "Islamic Supremacists." It was Sargeant Schultz in Hogan's Heroes! Geller testified Wednesday by telephone to the Alaska House Judiciary Committee, which Gatto chairs. "How can anyone oppose a law that seeks to prevent foreign laws from undermining fundamental constitutional liberties?" Geller said. Indeed. Geller maintained "surveys in the Muslim world" show most Muslims want a unified caliphate with a "strict al Qaeda-like Sharia." She spoke of Muslim polygamy, jihad in support of Sharia, and said Muslims have demanded special accommodation in U.S. schools, workplaces and government. Anchorage Democratic Rep. Lindsey Holmes objected. "I'm getting very uncomfortable with what I see is some fairly negative testimony against a large segment of society. I think we're getting off into some pretty dangerous, divisive territory," Holmes said, Geller responded that "I don't think I did [said] anything offensive, I merely stated the facts." Activist and former Muslim Nonie Darwish testified in support of the bill, talking about oppression of women in her home country of Egypt. Sam Obeidi, an Anchorage businessman, told the committee that American Muslims respect the U.S Constitution, and that Sharia was being mischaracterized. Anchorage Democratic Rep. Max Gruenberg said the bill as written wouldn't apply to criminal law, and asked a lawyer for the state whether she could see a scenario where the bill would make any difference in how the laws are being applied in Alaska. "I've had difficulty figuring out how it could ever be applied," said Assistant Attorney General Mary Ellen Beardsley. Anchorage Rep. Holmes and ACLU of Alaska director Jeffrey Mittman said the bill could cause unintended problems with international contracts that are drawn up between individuals and corporations.
AFDI FREE SPEECH VICTORY: WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
U.S. District Judge Denise Page Hood granted a preliminary injunction Thursday against the bus system, which was sued last year by the American Freedom Defense Initiative.
SMART declined comment on the case Friday. In court filings, the bus system said its policies against political and several other types of ads are constitutional.
[...]
"This organization has been designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group in the same way as the Ku Klux Klan," Walid said.
The ads are headlined, "Leaving Islam?" The text says: "Fatwa on your head? Is your family or community threatening you? Got questions? Get answers!"
Geller said the ads have run on buses in New York and Miami.
"I am thrilled, not just for the protection of free speech, but for those living in danger who will be helped by our freedom buses," Geller said in a posting on her website.
“We are not descended from fearful men,” Edward R. Murrow once said. That’s true of all variety of Americans, including Muslim-Americans. Surely, they can survive the indignity of a mildly offensive bus ad.
What we can’t survive is an attempt, however small, to chip away at the First Amendment.
The same First Amendment protecting Pamela Geller’s marketing effort also protects Muslims’ right to build the Park51 Community Center, even though some people want to protect from redevelopment the hallowed ground of Manhattan’s bankrupt Burlington Coat Factory.
This is also the same First Amendment that allows reasonable Americans of good will to call out Geller and her ilk (be it Pastor Terry Jones or the Thomas More Law Center’s Richard Thompson) as little better than shaved and fumigated Klansmen ginning up hate against a group of American citizens who pose no more of a threat to this nation than the Knights of Columbus.

By Richard Goldstone, Washinton Post (hat tip Van)
We know a lot more today about what happened in the Gaza war of 2008-09 than we did when I chaired the fact-finding mission appointed by the U.N. Human Rights Council that produced what has come to be known as the Goldstone Report. If I had known then what I know now, the Goldstone Report would have been a different document.
Some have suggested that it was absurd to expect Hamas, an organization that has a policy to destroy the state of Israel, to investigate what we said were serious war crimes. It was my hope, even if unrealistic, that Hamas would do so, especially if Israel conducted its own investigations. At minimum I hoped that in the face of a clear finding that its members were committing serious war crimes, Hamas would curtail its attacks. Sadly, that has not been the case.
In the end, asking Hamas to investigate may have been a mistaken enterprise. So, too, the Human Rights Council should condemn the inexcusable and cold-blooded recent slaughter of a young Israeli couple and three of their small children in their beds.
Simply put, the laws of armed conflict apply no less to non-state actors such as Hamas than they do to national armies. Ensuring that non-state actors respect these principles, and are investigated when they fail to do so, is one of the most significant challenges facing the law of armed conflict. Only if all parties to armed conflicts are held to these standards will we be able to protect civilians who, through no choice of their own, are caught up in war.ATLAS ACTION ALERT: 911 MEMORIAL MUSEUM GHOUL OFFICIALS EXPLOIT THE HUMAN REMAINS OF 1,123 "FREAK SHOW"

Thank you Pamela, for supporting our cause and helping us get the word out......people must know how the precious remains of the victims are being treated. how the families are being treated....NO CONSULTATION....such disrespect for the dead is uncivilized! So a museum in Rowanda displays the corpses! Are we of the same mindset? How disgusting! The outrageous salaries these people are making off the donations of generous Americans is proof positive these museum people have no scruples and no conscience...

WHEN HATE SPEECH PERP IS MUSLIM: ASSAILANT CRIES "AFRICAN" VICTIM STATUSISRAEL RELEASES MAP SHOWING LEBANON BOOBY TRAPPED WITH 1000 UNDERGROUND MILITARY SITES OPERATED BY HIZB'ALLAH (PARTY OF ALLAH)
I think that the enhanced UNIFIL which was agreed to with a lot of fanfare as part of resolution 1701 has not been successful in fully accomplishing the mission that we wanted to give to it. There's no doubt Syria and Iran have very substantially resupplied and rearmed Hezb'Allah. The UNIFIL people have done essentially nothing about it.Those shipments across the Lebanese Syrian border have been reported by the UN itself not something that comes just from the United States.

JERUSALEM — The Israeli military on Thursday released a map detailing what it says are nearly 1,000 underground bunkers, weapons storage facilities and monitoring sites built by the militant Hezbollah guerrillas in southern Lebanon.
Many of the sites on the map are located south of the Litani River in Lebanon, the zone where Hezbollah is banned from keeping weapons under the U.N.-sponsored truce that ended Israel’s summer 2006 war with the guerrilla group.
An article on the military spokesman’s website says Hezbollah has set up some 550 bunkers, 300 monitoring sites and 100 weapons storage facilities. The facilities are located in 270 villages, and many are located near hospitals, private homes and schools, the military said in a statement published on its website.
Israel and Hezbollah went to war after the Lebanese guerrilla group killed three Israeli soldiers and captured two others in a cross-border raid. Although Israel inflicted heavy damage on the group, it was unable to prevent it from firing some 4,000 rockets into Israel during the monthlong conflict.
Since then, Israel has accused Hezbollah of repeatedly violating the U.N.-brokered cease-fire by restocking its arsenal and covertly moving forces into south Lebanon, near the Israeli border. The map released Thursday was meant to provide new evidence against Hezbollah.
Israel believes Hezbollah now has more than 40,000 rockets, nearly three time the pre-war level, including more powerful weapons capable of reaching Israel’s Tel Aviv heartland.
The militant group, which controls the strongest armed force in Lebanon, did not acknowledge or deny that the Israeli map was accurate and accused Israel of employing scare tactics....
