Action Alert

Launch of “Love Jos” Campaign

Love Jos logoThe Love Jos Campaign has been launched this week by Christians in the UK to encourage others to engage with the situation in Jos and its surrounding areas in Nigeria.

Christian Concern is fully backing the campaign, which has arisen as a response to the systematic and ongoing violence and persecution against Christians in Nigeria by Islamic fundamentalists.

In one episode last year extremists attacked Dogo-Nahawa, leaving over 500 Christians brutally murdered. Many were decapitated, scalped and had their hands and feet cut off.

Regular attacks started happening in Nigeria following the implementation of sharia law in twelve of the northern Nigerian states from 1999 onwards and have been recently increasing in frequency.

Please visit the campaign website here to join the mailing list >

If you would like to donate to Love Jos in order to help the victims of these atrocities then please donate here and specify "Love Jos".

Finally, a very hard hitting documentary has been produced by the campaign called “Plateau – the Final Frontier”.

You can watch the promo here
and purchase the film for £10 by contactingsupport@lovejos.org.uk. Please note that the documentary contains highly graphic scenes.

Not Ashamed of Easter

Not Ashamed logoWe have released two new videos in the Not Ashamed Lent series.

Local radio presenter, Jon Bellamy, helps us to think about Christian engagement with the media and Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali continues his short reflections on passages from John's gospel. Please continue to support the campaign in the run up to Easter.

Sign the Petition – 100,000 signatures secures a Parliamentary debate

PetitionPublic opinion is shifting! Following extensive media coverage of the Eunice and Owen John’s case, only 30% of British adults now agree with the statement “would-be foster carers who hold that homosexual activity is morally wrong should be banned from fostering,” representing a fall of 10 percentage points since the question was last asked, before the case hit the headlines following the high court judgment in March 2011 (see here for poll story).

Please sign our Equalities and Conscience Petition here >

Prime Minister David Cameron has previously indicated that any petition that collects 100,000 signatures will be eligible to be formally debated in the Commons.
