France Is Brave and Right to Ban the Burqa

Phyllis Chesler:

… France is brave and right to ban the burqa. There is no reason for a modern Western country to honor what is, essentially, a political statement and an ethnic and misogynistic custom. Banning the burqa is not infringing on religious freedom but is, rather, a principled blow against the Talibanesque and barbaric subordination of Muslim women on Western soil.

18 Ways To Know Passover is Coming in Israel

by Judy Lash Balint, JERUSALEM DIARIES

Citizens of southern Israel face the prospect of yet another Passover under fire. The barrage of missiles and rockets on our southern cities and surrounding western Negev kibbutzim is almost taken for granted by the international community as they prefer to focus on whether a few hundred more apartments are being planned in a Jerusalem neighborhood.

As if that weren’t bad enough, hundreds of former Gush Katif residents are still in temporary housing almost six years since their eviction. Many who moved into the vast and dismal caravilla camp of Nitzan near Ashkelon are still unemployed and dealing with the emotional and psychological effects of displacement.

On the religious front, Haaretz revealed in a poll that 68 percent of the population answers ‘no’ when asked if they are planning on eating chametz during Pesach and 75 percent of Israelis will take part in a seder.

Meantime, on Pesach the extent of the dire poverty...

Taxing the rich is counterproductive

Reality of Taxing the ‘Rich’

By Steve McCann, AMERICAN THINKER

The President is going to address the nation yet again. He apparently intends to unveil another revised plan to fool the American people into believing he is sincere about reducing the deficit and reign in spending after the unserious budget he presented in February was soundly rejected by the country. While his hand has been forced by the twin factors of the Republicans in the House (buoyed the effectiveness of the Tea Party movement) and the upcoming Presidential election, he will nonetheless bring up increasing taxes on the so-called wealthy and corporations as one of the primary means of solving the debt and deficit problem.

Unfortunately this approach plays well among the less enlightened and Obama’s left-wing base who are in the thrall of class warfare and the capability of that argument to enflame passions and potential violence. This argument is solely being utilized to keep the Democrats and...

Clinton: U.S. plans new push on Israeli-Palestinian peace

THE STATUS QUO IS NOT SUSTAINABLE BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF A DEAL WITH THE PA, BUT BECAUSE WAR IS COMING REGARDLESS OF A DEAL. THE US HAS BIGGER FISH TO FRY AND SHOULD STOP THIS PEACE MAKING OBSESSION.

HAARETZ

The United States plans a new push to promote comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday, suggesting reinvigorated U.S. role in trying to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“The president will be speaking in greater detail about America’s policy in the Middle East and North Africa in the coming weeks,” Clinton said at the U.S.-Islamic World Forum, a gathering sponsored by Qatar and the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank.

“America’s core interests and values have not changed, including our commitment to promote human rights, resolve long-standing conflicts, counter Iran’s threats and defeat Al-Qaida and its extremist allies,” she added. “This includes renewed pursuit of...

Tsunami be damned

The important thing is to stay calm, not press the panic button, and not listen to those familiar faces who reappear every now and then with a new-old initiative suggesting that Israel announce it is prepared to withdraw to the ’67 borders.’

By Moshe Arens, HAARETZ

Anyone who has helped design alarms and early warning systems knows the phenomenon of false alarms. They bedevil both the developers and those who are supposed to be protected by the system. The systems being put in place to warn of oncoming “tsunamis” are also affected by this false alarm syndrome. The more sensitive the system, the more likely it is to sound the alarm when there is nothing to actually be alarmed about. Israel has its own tsunami warning system – and it is none other than our defense minister, who has already sounded the alarm.

According to him, Israel will be hit by a political tsunami in September. His warning...
