Iraq does Tehran’s bidding in attack on Camp Ashraf

Jubin Afshar:

Why would Iraq’s Prime Minister Al-Maliki order a heavy assault on 3400 unarmed, defenseless Iranian dissidents in a refugee settlement northeast of Baghdad? Reports reaching news agencies confirm that at least 31 Iranian dissidents have been killed and hundreds wounded. Medical supplies are being blocked as the critically wounded continue to die. …

There are reports that US forces in nearby Baquba, who are tasked with monitoring security in Ashraf and intervening if necessary, did not respond to appeals for help at the camp. This all occurred during the visit to Iraq by US Defense Secretary Robert Gates. …

Trump trumps everyone

Newsmax Poll: Donald Trump Overwhelms Obama, GOP Field in 2012 Race

By Jim Meyers, NEWSMAX

An Internet poll sponsored by Newsmax.com reveals that Americans overwhelmingly favor Donald Trump as their preferred candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

Online participants in the poll, which has drawn more than 550,000 responses, also support Trump by a wide margin in a head-to-head matchup with President Barack Obama.

If the election were held today, Trump would beat Obama in a landslide, 68 to 13 percent. But that lead is just as sizeable when Trump faces off against the best and the brightest in the oft-mentioned field of GOP contenders for 2012.

Trump takes 57 percent of the vote in a field including Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty. His closest competitor, according to the poll, is former Massachusetts Gov. Romney with 9 percent of the vote. (See full poll results below — and you can still vote in the Trump poll — Click Here...

How Israel supports he Palestinians

Measures Taken by Israel in Support of Developing the Palestinian Economy and Socio-Economic Structure Report

Report of the Government of Israel to the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC)

Executive Summary

In 2010, the Palestinian economy continued to grow at a quick pace, with economic growth reaching 9.3%, due to a very quick recovery of the Gaza economy (15%), accompanied by continued growth of the West Bank economy (8%1). The PA’s GDP in 2010 amounted to USD 5,728 million, and the GDP per capita increased by 6.1%, in comparison to the previous year.2 Israeli policy in the West Bank and Gaza contributed significantly to this growth.

Increased Palestinian sales to Israel, a higher volume of commercial goods shipped from the West Bank via the land crossings to Israel and abroad, growing numbers of tourists visiting the West Bank, and increased construction, are all additional indications of the growth of the Palestinian economy.

UN General Assembly “Uniting for Palestine”

THIS IS A GREAT ANALYSIS.

INSS Insight No. 251, April 11, 2011

By Robbie Sabel (Dr. Robbie Sabel lectures in international law at Hebrew University and is a former legal adviser to the Israeli Foreign Ministry.)

Except on matters of procedure and budget, all General Assembly resolutions are only recommendations. The other main organ of the UN is the Security Council, which was granted the primary responsibility for matters of international security and peace. In contrast to the General Assembly, Council decisions are binding if adopted under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.

During the early years of the Cold War, the Soviet Union used its veto power in the Security Council to prevent decisions being taken against North Korea. At the time the UN General Assembly was dominated by the Western states, and in order to try and bypass the stalemated Security Council the United States initiated General Assembly Resolution 377, commonly referred to as the “Uniting for Peace...

PM: Diplomatic initiative still a work in progress

So why is the US saying timing is wrong. Is it because it thinks that Netanyahu will make more concessions to stave it off? There is no question that Obama wants ’67 lines with mutual swaps. There is no question that Oslo required a negotiated solution and prohibited unilateral steps. Art XXXI provides

“Nothing in this Agreement shall prejudice or preempt the outcome of the negotiations on the permanent status to be conducted pursuant to the DOP.

“Neither side shall initiate or take any step that will change the status of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip pending the outcome of the permanent status negotiations.”

In pursuance of these provision, the US and the EU kept Israel restrained so as “not to prejudge the outcome”. In their minds, if Israel builds she is prejudging the outcome but if the Arabs build they are not. The US has always maintained that Oslo required a negotiated solution. The US could easily stick to that requirement and that...

Netanyahu mulling West Bank pullout to stave off ‘diplomatic tsunami’

HAARETZ DISTORTED BIBI’S REMARKS. HE NEVER SAID TO STAVE OFF A TSUNAMI.

By Barak Ravid, HAARETZ

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is weighing a withdrawal of Israel Defense Forces troops from the West Bank and a series of other measures to block the “diplomatic tsunami” that may follow international recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders at the United Nations General Assembly in September.

The extent of the withdrawal is still unclear, but at this stage Netanyahu is not considering the evacuation of settlements.

Netanyahu believes that there is very little chance of resuming negotiations with the Palestinians but is examining ideas for steps that would be taken in the absence of negotiations to demonstrate an Israeli diplomatic initiative that would rally the United States, the European Union and other Western countries against a unilateral Palestinian move in the UN.

Netanyahu commented on the matter during a meeting with European...

Woman Caned for Adultery in Indonesia

Laura: In the “moderate” sharia country of Indonesia, a woman was caned for adultery in front of a cheering mob. Now I realize we are unable to impose our will on every oppressive nation, but the least we can do is stop any economic or diplomatic relations with any country under sharia law. We should have no trade with nor should we give aid to such nations. Liberals in the west advocate boycotts, sanctions and divestment from the free nation of Israel, but it is nations like Indonesia which should actually be boycotted.

Medieval justice… in the 21st Century: Woman caned in front of a baying mob for having an affair

The harsh...
