TaxPayers' Alliance Special Bulletin - 4th April

Rally Against Debt

We are sending you this special, extra bulletin to tell you about an exciting event, the Rally Against Debt, that has been organised for14 May. It will be a major demonstration highlighting the importance of tackling the huge public sector deficit, and the need for substantial spending cuts. So far, more than 1,300 people have signed up to a rally that aims to be a well mannered alternative to the unrealistic trade union march and the vandalism of the UK Uncut protest back in March. The TPA will be there and it would be great to see as many of you as possible coming along too. There are more details on this Facebook event page. Please register that you will be attending on that page if you use Facebook and do invite all your friends. If you don’t use Facebook, then just come along, this event is for everyone who believes in tackling the deficit and sensible spending cuts. No particular party, organisation or person is leading this protest and there is no common position beyond our basic concern about the huge public sector deficit.

Today we can make an exciting announcement. If 2,000 people register to attend the rally on Facebook, then we will bring down ourDebt Clock. The articulated lorry-mounted Debt Clock (pictured above with some of the TPA team) was a highlight of our campaign last year and can accompany the rally. The huge and quickly rising figure displayed on the clock serving as a fantastic and eye-catching centrepiece for this important event. We'd like to give a big thank you to Keltruck for sponsoring the lorry and making this possible.

We hope that by getting involved in this rally we can help it to become a landmark event in the campaign to secure responsible reductions in spending. Please register to attend if you can and then invite as many friends as possible.

Event: Rally Against Debt

When: 11.00 am, Saturday 14th May 2011

Where: London, exact location to be confirmed nearer the date

What to bring: Just yourself and your friends, and a placard if you would like

Tackling the national debt is a crucial issue, it would be immoral to leave it to future generations; we need substantial spending cuts sooner rather than later to avoid seeing more and more of our taxes go on debt interest not paying for services. We hope you will join us at this event and show your support.

For more information on the rally, see the frequently asked questions.
