By Bob Unruh, WND Leaders across America whose organizations represent literally millions of people have told the nation of Israel, much like the wizard told Dorothy in Oz, “don’t listen to that man behind the curtain,” or in the current case, don’t listen to the man in the White House. The message to Israel was in a full-page newspaper ad published today in Jerusalem by a coalition of American organizations coming together under the slogan “Israel, You’re Not Alone. “WE STAND WITH YOU,” the Jerusalem Post ad states. “Mr. Prime Minister, you are not alone! Millions of Americans stand with you and Israel and we welcome you on your upcoming visit to the United States of America.” President Obama blew it yesterday. The Israelis are infuriated, numerous sharp-eyed lawmakers spotted the forced concessions Obama was demanding of Israel and, if former AIPAC spokesman Josh Block is any indication, the most prominent pro-Israel Jewish group is very, very worried. So what does Obama do? He reverses course — fast! On the BBC last night, Obama immediately nixed his definitive language on the 1967 borders and reverted to language that sounded more in tune with that of former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush: To the BBC, the president said, “The basis for negotiations will involve looking at that 1967 border, recognizing that conditions on the ground have changed and there are going to need to be swaps to accommodate the interests of both sides. That’s on the one hand and on the other hand, and this was an equally important part of the speech, Israel is going to have to feel confident about its security on the West Bank... It’s a recommendation of a structure for negotiations.” Foxman is trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. By supporting the Arab position which is also supported by the EU, Obama is confining the limits of negotiation and usurping res 242 which reuires negotiations to acheive “secure borders”. He is saying that the Arabs are entitled to the equivalent of “all the territories” rather than some of the territories. This is fundamental. He is also imposing the broad stokes of a solution leaving only details to be negotiated. Israel is in the driver’s seat. She is in possession. If the Arabs want a state of their own it will have to be on Israel’s terms. Obama is trying to force a solution on Arab terms.
