Huhne DID Try to Dodge Driving Ban by Persuading Others to Take Speeding Points, Claims Wife

'Chris Huhne’s estranged wife last night stood by an extraordinary claim that the Cabinet minister asked an aide to accept penalty points on his behalf for a speeding offence.Vicky Pryce suggested Mr Huhne was so desperate to avoid losing his driving licence that he wanted the aide to say they were behind the wheel at the time.

The Liberal Democrat Energy Secretary vehemently denies the explosive allegation which, if true, could result in a police investigation. But respected economist Miss Pryce, whom Mr Huhne infamously dumped for his press officer Carina Trimingham after 26 years of marriage, refused to withdraw her comments.'

Criminal Suspects to Be Charged Through the Post

'Some offenders who have been bailed by police will receive formal notices in the mail ordering them to court, to save officers having to call them back to the police station.

The move will target those charged with a range of offences including theft, criminal damage and shoplifting. It is part of a broader move to hand police back the power to charge criminals. The Crown Prosecution Service currently decides in all but the most minor offences whether to prosecute.

But the Home Secretary wants the balance shifting back to police with officers eventually deciding in eight out of ten offences.'
