Seriously? How many millions have to be slaughtered? This is ongoing jihad. And what is so galling in all these reports from Egypt to Nigeria, the Phillipines and the Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Darfur, Yemen, etc is the news reports of clashes. These are not clashes - the non-Muslims are the victims of these jihadi attacks. Just like with Israel reportage, if you defeend your life, it becomes a "clash." No. Nigeria: Deadly attack on northern village BBC At least 16 people have been killed in an attack on a predominantly Christian village in northern Nigeria. Police said late on Friday that unidentified assailants had also burnt a number of houses in the village in Bauchi state, near Tafawa Balewa. Bauchi is in Nigeria's middle belt, where the predominantly Muslim north meets the mainly Christian south. There are long-standing tensions in the area rooted in power struggles and land disputes, correspondents say. This has caused violence in the past between indigenous Christian or animist groups, and Muslim settlers from the North. Hundreds have died in clashes in Nigeria following national elections last month in which Goodluck Jonathan, a southern Christian, won the presidential poll against a Muslim, Muhammadu Buhari. The worst of the violence was in Bauchi and Kaduna states. This is fertile ground. Disenfranchised, uneducated violent offenders make the perfect target for jihad plotting and recruitment. Atlas has been covering this as early as 2005, 2006, The Wall Street Journal (February 5, 2003) also confirmed that Wahhabism is making serious inroads into the black population of American prisons. It quoted a New York-based Wahhabi imam, Warith Deen Umar (who until his retirement in 2000 helped run New York's growing Islamic prison program by recruiting and training dozens of chaplains and ministering to thousands of inmates himself), as saying: Jose Padilla, a former Chicago IL street gang member became a radicalized while in prison. He was arrested in 2002 on suspicion of planning to explode a "dirty bomb." Richard Reid (a.k.a. Abdel Raheem and Trig Rajah), was also radicalized while incarcerated in a UK prison. He attempted to ignite explosives in his shoes and thereby blow up an American Airlines plane in mid-flight during Christmastime in 2001. Last year four Muslims were convicted of plotting to bomb two NYC synagogues and shoot down military jets with Stinger missiles. They too were American-born jailhouse converts to Islam. Nothing is being done to stop this growing army of jihadis in America. Apparently Osama Bin Laden's plan to Anti-U.S. Strategy to exploit minority converts and recruit minorities for attacks is well underway. How can the world let this go on without so much as acknowledgment of this atrocity? And the liberals that helped install the incoming Muslim Brotherhood project.....should be forced to live there. They are never held to account. They crap all over everything and then head out to their dinner parties. Where is Kaye Couric and Brian Williams, Diane Sawyer and all the nets on this story? True to the mainstream media's habit of describing a scene of mutual "tensions" when Muslims attack Christians, the headline below describes "Egyptian sectarian violence," giving the impression of equal participation. Here, the rumor that the Coptic church is holding two women who converted to Islam has fueled months of jihadist violence against Christians far removed from any such alleged conspiracy, including the New Year's Eve church bombing in Alexandria, and even the massacre on the eve of All Saints' Day in Baghdad. "6 dead in Egyptian sectarian violence," from CNN, May 7: But when Muslims abduct Christian girls and women -- and they do -- that's apparently A-OK. Has any composition ever so utterly defined a city? Nothing Sacred is among the best "screwball" comedies of the 1930s. Musical score by the supremely talented pianist, composer and American wit, Oscar Levant. Starring the delicious Carole Lombard and debonair Fredric March, it's a joy. "This is New York, Skyscraper Champion of the World...Where the Slickers and Know-It-Alls peddle gold bricks to each other...And where Truth, crushed to earth, rises again more phony than a glass eye..." With this jaundiced opening title, scripter Ben Hecht introduces his classic comedy Nothing Sacred. Fredric March plays Wally Cook, a hotshot reporter condemned to writing obituaries because of his unwitting complicity in a fraud. Anxious to get back in the good graces of his editor Oliver Stone (Walter Connolly), Cook pounces on the story of New England girl Hazel Flagg (Carole Lombard), who is reportedly dying from radiation poisoning. Actually, Hazel isn't dying at all; she's been misdiagnosed by Moscow's eternally drunk doctor (Charles Winninger). But when Cook offers to take her on an all-expenses-paid trip to New York in exchange for her exclusive story, it's too good an offer to pass up. Once in the Big Apple, Hazel is feted as a heroine by the novelty-seeking populac; she enjoys the adulation at first, but soon (and with the help of gallons of alcoholic beverages) suffers the pangs of conscience. She confesses her deception to Cook, who by now has fallen in love with her. Cook and Stone conspire to keep the public from discovering the truth, eventually dreaming up a phony suicide. Travelling incognito to avoid arrest, Wally and Hazel marry and go on a honeymoon, secure in the knowledge that New York City has forgotten all about her and moved on to their next fad. Brimming with witty, acerbic dialogue and hilarious bits of physical business, Nothing Sacred is among the best "screwball" comedies of the 1930s. The musical score by Oscar Levant both mocks and celebrates the George Gershwinesque musical style then in vogue. As an added bonus, the film is lensed in Technicolor (avoid those two-color reissue prints), allowing modern viewers to see what New York City looked liked back in 1937. Nothing Sacred was later adapted into a Broadway musical, Hazel Flagg, which in turn was filmed by Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis as Living It Up(1954), with Lewis in the Carole Lombard role. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi... This is what they do -- certainly this is CAIR's modus operandi. Osama bin Laden aspired to damage the United States not only through persistent terror attacks, but also by attempting to inflame race and class tensions in hopes of tearing down the country from the inside out, according to officials briefed on the evidence trove recovered from the al Qaeda leader's Pakistan compound. According to materials in the cache of documents recovered in the U.S. Navy SEAL raid that brought down the terror leader, bin Laden planned to specifically recruit African-American Muslim converts to carry out attacks on the homeland. The goal was to not only kill and maim in the actual operations, but to create a divisiveness that would cause more damage than al Qaeda could ever hope to do on their own. "Because there were many blacks in the U.S., he wanted to capitalize on them to further the jihadi cause," one U.S. official told ABC News. "Al Qaeda sees the black convert community as ripe for recruiting." While it has long been known that radical preachers and some prison imams have targeted the convert community for jihad recruitment, the references show core al Qaeda's keen interest in the tactic. "This is pretty heady stuff," another person briefed on the material said. But it's also strategy that civil rights activist and President of the National Action Network Rev. Al Sharpton said was "radical" and outrageous. Why? It's what Sharpton has been trafficking in for years. Minority groups have previously suffered in the aftermath of terror attacks or attempted attacks, though most of those incidents have been directed at Muslim-Americans. Ibrahim Hooper, National Communications Director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said those incidents are not indicative of the American people and any belief by bin Laden that he could prompt widespread violence in such a way between any groups was a "fantasy." "I think the viewpoint reflects more of a Neo-Nazi, white supremacist outlook on American whites than anything based in reality," he said. "I think it's fantasy based on a fundamental misunderstanding of American society." CAIR is calling OBL a white supremacist??? Still, Sharpton said that the revelation about al Qaeda's targeting of minorities should serve "not as a wake-up call as much as a tap on the shoulder" to minority leaders. If racial tensions have created a vulnerability in U.S. national security, Sharpton said, "it becomes the responsibility for those of us in black leadership and activism to make sure that we carefully monitor who we let in our ranks and for what... and try to understand that we cannot be exploited as we try to stop the continuing injustices." First bin Laden, Stephen Harper's sweep in the Canadian elections, and now Tony Kushner. The vile KKKushner is exposed for the hater he is. Huge props to Jeffrey Wiesenfeld, who fought back after the CUNY had decided to honor the jewicidal KKKushner. I wouldn't call Kushner a kapo, because those Jews were forced to betray their lansmen in Nazi Germany. Kushner does it unprompted, with malevolent glee. Kushner's hate-filled propaganda includes the blood libel that Israel committed the “ethnic cleansing” of Muslims in order to create a Jewish state. He alleges that is not anti-Jewish. Yeah, right. Good on the notoriously uber-left CUNY, which has done little to applaud in the past. Bruce Kelser has the 441 here: No, the Chairman of the City University of New York did not say that Tony Kushner, a la praise that was given to Mussolini, "made the trains run on time." Instead, Benno Schmidt Jr. -- formerly of Yale -- says something similar (Reconsidering, CUNY Likely To Honor Kushner): “But it is not right for the board to consider politics in connection with the award of honorary degrees except in extreme cases not presented by the facts here,” he wrote. “The proposed honorary degree for Mr. Kushner would recognize him for his extraordinary talent and contribution to the American theater. Like other honorary degrees, it is not intended to reflect approval or disapproval for political views not relevant to the field for which the recipient is being honored.” A meeting is to be held Monday to overturn the rejection by the CUNY Trustees to not grant Tony Kushner an honorary degree. The venue is a smaller Executive Committee, which Mr. Schmidt apparently feels he controls So, Mr. Schmidt, would CUNY grant famous philosopher and Nazi Martin Heidegger an honorary degree? Is a man seperable into compartments for the sake of bestowing honors? As pointed out by Ron Radosh's read-it-all on Kushner: Of course, anything Tony Kushner gets is intended, as he always makes clear, to honor his politics as well as his playwriting, which is indistinguishable from his politics. Just see any Kushner play, and try treating it as a non-political vehicle." Tony Kushner is an extremist, libeling Israel and Catholics, and even taken to task by other gays for shoddy literary/political work, as Andrew Sullivan points out (before Sullivan proceeds to himself libel Israel, using edited and false quotes from an anti-Israel hate site): To say I am embarrassed to be defending Tony Kushner is an understatement. I was one of very few gay men with HIV who found Angels in America to be pretentious, boring propaganda, and like most propaganda, endless and laden with stereotypes and cartoon figures. In the internecine fights in the gay movement in the 1990s, we were on opposite sides. I'd rather have pins stuck in my eyes than attend his new play, ominously titled "The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism With a Key to the Scriptures," which like other Important Plays, clocks in at four hours. His sad attempt to exonerate traitors like the Rosenbergs was once perverse; now it just seems at odds with reality. I have no beef with him personally, I should add, although after writing all that, he may feel somewhat differently toward me. And, as pointed out in the Heidegger link above, Kushner's literary works aren't that great, except to liberals who go in for Kushner's bashing of others they dislike. Mr. Schmidt says, "“Freedom of thought and expression is the bedrock of any university worthy of the name.” So are standards, Mr. Schmidt. Letter from CUNY Trustee Jeffrey Wiesenfeld in the New York Times: To the Editor: On the other hand, an honorary degree is wholly within the discretion of the board to grant. It identifies the university with accomplished, generous citizens or public figures. It is also a tool that enhances a university’s image in the educational marketplace. Mr. Kushner’s degree was opposed by a majority of the CUNY board because he is an extremist. No extremist from any quarter, whether from far left or far right, is a good face for any university. What makes Mr. Kushner different from other honorees who are known Israel critics among the 450 or so honorary degrees awarded during the 12 years I have been on the board (all of them approved, including with my vote) is that he accuses Israel of ethnic cleansing — a term that crosses the line. Ethnic cleansing is Nazi Germany, Bosnia, Darfur and Rwanda, to name a few (the American Indians didn’t fare too well, either). If Israel is an ethnic cleanser, how is it that over one million Arabs live better there than in almost any Arab state? CUNY should remain a place of comfort and welcome for all of our students, faculty and administrators — including supporters of the Jewish state. JEFFREY S. WIESENFELD The writer is the CUNY trustee who initially raised objections to an honorary degree for Tony Kushner. Here's an excerpt: In this issue is an article entitled "Cairo on my Mind." The story is written by a "Carol Sidky," who "fell in love with Egypt at eighteen" when she volunteered for the British International School in Cairo as a "Project Trust volunteer." She goes on to wax poetic about the country where her husband married his secretary when Sidky was eight months pregnant (it seems she was satisfied with the never explained "plausible explanation"). Sidky dismisses this as an Egyptian thing, when in fact she knows, and Anna Wintour knows, that it is an Islamic thing. It is the Sharia. She damn near loses her children, but flees instead and then laments her "exile" from her adopted home of Egypt. Sidky further describes how a man and woman cannot check into a hotel unless they are married, and how adulterous women get jailed for at least two years (though the Sharia punishment can be far more punitive). She speaks of stories of "intrusive morality policing," all without ever mentioning Islam, Sharia, or gender apartheid in this dhimmi puff piece. Sidky goes on to paint Egypt's "revolutionary road" as pure fantasy. Her hope for the new Egypt is "a new constitution" (what's new about Sharia, which has already been decided will be part of the system of governance?). She envisions a democratically elected parliament with a broad base of political parties, and more equitable distribution of wealth (of course). Nowhere in the article does Sidky accurately or honestly portray the rise of the jihad and its implications for that country, or the women and children who are forced to live under their brutal boot. The omissions from Sidky's article are striking. Nowhere does she mention that over 96% of the women in Egypt have been clitorectomized. No mention is made of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is clearly in the lead to seize control of the newly belligerent Egypt, or the calls for the abandonment of the 30-year peace with the Jewish state of Israel. Instead, she relates the revolution to an "exquisite dinner" that very few Egyptians would be able to afford, and oh, how did she miss that stunning injustice all these years that she has been living, loving, submitting in Egypt? The culture is the enemy. Call them out on it. This outrages me, because I expect more from Wintour. She is tough as nails, eating bullets for breakfast. I loved the way she stood down PETA, and frankly stands down anyone who crosses her, though her treatment of Grace Coddington is unforgivable (clearly Grace is the heart and soul of Vogue). NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two Muslim religious leaders say they were removed from a commercial airliner in Memphis on Friday and were told it was because the pilot refused to fly with them aboard. Airline officials at Memphis tried to resolve the situation, but the pilot refused. A Delta Air Lines spokeswoman said the flight was operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines, which is also based in Atlanta. "We take security and safety very seriously and the event is currently under investigation," Atlantic Southeast spokesman Jarek Beem said Friday evening. Both passengers are Memphis-area residents. Rahman said he was dressed in traditional Indian clothing and his traveling companion was dressed in Arab garb, including traditional headgear. Rahman said he and Mohamed Zaghloul, of the Islamic Association of Greater Memphis, were cleared by security agents and boarded the plane for an 8:40 a.m. departure. The aircraft pulled away from the gate, but the pilot then announced the plane must return, Rahman said. When it did, the imams were asked to go back to the boarding gate where Rahman said they were told the pilot was refusing to accept them because some other passengers could be uncomfortable. Rahman said Delta officials talked with the pilot for more than a half-hour, but he still refused. The men were taken to a lounge and booked on a later flight. Beem said they flew on to Charlotte later Friday. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused," Beem said. The men contacted the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group in Washington, D.C. "It's racism and bias because of our religion and appearance and because of misinformation about our religion." Rahman said. "If they understood Islam, they wouldn't do this." He said a Delta manager apologized for the pilot's actions, but that he and Zaghloul never spoke directly with the pilot. Ibrahim Hooper, of the American-Islamic organization, said the group will follow up with the airline and with the TSA to help ensure such incidents do not continue to occur. Hooper said airline officials at Memphis tried to resolve the situation, but the pilot refused. Judge Files Complaint against Merkel over Bin Laden Comments Speigel Schadenfreude, the enjoyment of others' suffering, may be a famously German concept, but it is apparently not a feeling that many Germans aspire to. The political and public fallout following Chancellor Angela Merkel's statement on Monday that she was "glad" Osama bin Laden had been killed was among the most hotly debated topics in the German media this week. But Hamburg judge Heinz Uthmann went even further. He alleges that the chancellor's statement was nothing short of illegal, and filed a criminal complaint against Merkel midweek, the daily Hamburger Morgenpost reported Friday. "I am a law-abiding citizen and as a judge, sworn to justice and law," the 54-year-old told the paper, adding that Merkel's words were "tacky and undignified." In his two-page document, Uthmann, a judge for 21 years, cites section 140 of the German Criminal Code, which forbids the "rewarding and approving" of crimes. In this case, Merkel endorsed a "homicide," Uthmann claimed. The violation is punishable by up to three years' imprisonment or a fine. "For the daughter of a Christian pastor, the comment is astonishing and at odds with the values of human dignity, charity and the rule of law," Uthmann told the newspaper. A Sober German Reaction While the judge's reaction may seem extreme, his sentiments are apparently shared by 64 percent of the German population. That was the proportion of Germans who said bin Laden's death was "no reason to rejoice" in a poll published by broadcaster ARD on Friday. Among respondents who said they identified with Germany's three main opposition parties, an even greater proportion were disgusted with the jubilation over the al-Qaida leader's death. Their views mirror recent comments made by opposition politicians on the issue. The chancellor has declined to withdraw her statement, but the outcry prompted government press spokesman Steffen Seibert to defend her on Thursday. "The reason for her happiness was the thought that this man would no longer pose any danger," he said, adding that her statement had been reported out of context. Seibert added that Merkel "appreciates that those who heard only this sentence ... might have found the combination of the words 'death' and 'glad' in one phrase to be inappropriate." President Obama decided against releasing photographs of bin Laden, fearing their graphic and gruesome nature could be inflammatory and put Americans at risk. The government will also release more information from the computers seized in the raid on bin Laden's compound. Yesterday ABC News reported on evidence of discussions about targeting US rail lines and a possible attack marking the 10th anniversary of 9/11. U.S. intelligence is now in possession of a veritable "playbook" of al Qaeda operations -- from potential terror attack targets to information on international safe houses and top commanders -- thanks to the Navy SEAL raid that took down Osama bin Laden Sunday, officials told ABC News today. The cache of electronic and handwritten materials obtained by the SEALs includes numerous hallmark al Qaeda plots including attacks on infrastructure targets such as water supply and transportation including rail and air, in what one official described as a "strategic guide for how to attack the U.S." In the past, al Qaeda planned for attacks on water supplies have included an interest in mining dams and in poisoning water supply. Intelligence experts have also have found what appears to be information about safe houses around the world and about al Qaeda leadership. It is unclear just how active bin Laden was in coordinating any operations or in blessing overall strategies and plots. One official said bin Laden appears to have thought of himself as something of a head coach to al Qaeda. What is clear, officials said, is that intelligence analysts see weeks ahead of data mining and linking the cache of materials to past knowledge of plots that has come from detainees, cases and various forms of intercepts and surveillance. While as yet no specific plots have been uncovered, there is a clear interest in attacks on the for most prominent U.S. cities such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. The materials make clear that while at times in the past it has been suggested that dates are not a factor in Al Qaeda attack planning, in fact, one of the terror group's aspirations was to launch attacks on symbolic dates like Sept. 11, in hopes of giving even greater resonance to any success. Egypt's military secured the protest with armored vehicles and dozens of soldiers. Buses and cars also halted traffic at the site in identification with the protesters. I don't know who is more evil, the Islamic supremacists who think we are clueless and stupid, or the Islamic apologists who heap praise, awards and money on those who seek to impose their brutal ideology on Americans, using our freedoms to destroy our freedom. Rauf and Reza are two of the worst. They should relegated to the very fringe of decent, freedom-loving societies. Instead, they are lauded. That is almost as perverse and morally ill as giving Osama bin Laden a proper Islamic burial. I wish to salute the patriots, freedom lovers and sharia fighters for protesting this event. This is what must be done. Call out the liars. This was very unlike the events where I speak (or Spencer), at which anyone can ask a question. On Wednesday night, for example, Robert and I spent an hour answering questions from hostile Muslim students and their left wing idiot enablers at Ohio University. And it bears mentioning that the invitations we get usually come from a student or one lone sane voice amid a collective of statist groupthink. Rauf and his cabal of evil clowns are usually invited by the universities and receive huge honorariums. It is important to understand just how grossly stacked the deck is in this fight. Let that serve to fuel your passion. It does mine. Typically, all questions were vetted by the mullah-loving Aslan at their event. As in sharia societies, there was no free exchange of ideas, just the usual proselytizing, whitewashing, cries of victimhood and blatant denial of the realities of Islamic jihad and the sharia. Watch the video. Rauf blames the media for jihad reportage and suggests that a blackout on all reporting of homicide bombings, jihad killing, ethnic cleansing would solve the problem. Hey, Rauf, you have that now. The media is not reporting it, but the blogs are. Fousesquak covered the event here. Above video by DemoCast. Please go read the rest. The Pakistani government should be apologizing. It should be groveling. It should be undertaking a massive internal reform to sweep out the jihad sympathizers. It should be opening its doors to American military personnel, acknowledging that it is infiltrated and compromised and offering to do whatever it takes to reverse that. After all, Pakistan is a country on the dole. They're getting billions from the U.S. every year to fight jihad terrorism. They should be doing everything they can right now to repair the damage done by the revelation that they were sheltering Osama bin Laden for years. But instead, we're getting threats and Islamic supremacist arrogance. Congress should cut all aid -- all aid to Pakistan today, present the Pakistani government with a bill for all the aid given to it since 9/11, and cease to consider Pakistan an ally. "Pakistan warns America not to stage any more raids," by Chris Brummitt for the Associated Press, May 6: Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir's remarks seemed to be aimed chiefly at addressing that criticism. "The Pakistan security forces are neither incompetent nor negligent about their sacred duty to protect Pakistan," he told reporters. "There shall not be any doubt that any repetition of such an act will have disastrous consequences," he said.... American officials have said they didn't inform Pakistan in advance, fearing bin Laden could be tipped off. Elements of Pakistan's army and Inter-Services Intelligence agency have long been suspected of maintaining links to Islamist militants, mostly for use as proxies in Afghanistan and Pakistan. While the country has worked with the United States to arrest many al-Qaida operatives since 2001, suspicion lingers it is playing a double game. The leaders of Britain and France, as well as U.S. officials, have said Pakistan has questions to answer over bin Laden's location in a large house close to an army academy in a garrison town. Bashir said it was "absolutely wrong" to blame the ISI. "After all there was information within the U.S. system about those who were ultimately, eventually responsible for the 9/11 (attacks), so it's not for me to say that the U.S. government or the CIA failed to prevent that," he said.... Bashir said perceptions that Pakistan's ties with Washington were at rock bottom were untrue. "We acknowledge the United States is an important friend," he said. "Basically Pakistan and U.S. relations are moving in the right direction." EU spokesman Michael Mann said Thursday "there can be no doubt" Pakistan would remain an important partner in the region even amid the allegations. Of course. This is the imposition of Islamic supremacism in secular societies, made possible by leftist apologists and enablers in the West. This is a death blow to Denmark. Geert Wilders is standing trial for the the same Islamic lunacy law. Europe's maddening descent into the dark ages bodes most ill for free men: (CBN News) — A Danish court has found a leading Islamic expert guilty of racism for his comments about Muslims, the latest ruling in an ongoing battle between free speech and Islam in Europe. Lars Hedegaard was charged with racism under Denmark’s hate speech law after telling someone at a gathering about the problem of rape committed against Muslim girls by male relatives. “Of course I made clear that I was not talking about every Muslim man in the country or in the world. By the way, I was not talking specifically about conditions in Denmark,” Hedegaard explained. Hedegaard said it’s a fact that can be backed up by hard evidence. But in Denmark, that doesn’t matter. Under Denmark’s hate speech law, it doesn’t matter if what you said was true. It doesn’t matter if it is factual — if it offends someone, you could be charged. A guilty verdict hinged on whether what Hedegaard said was intended for a wider audience. A lower court decided it was not, and acquitted him. Copenhagen, May 5, 2011 It is with great sadness I have to report that Denmark’s reputation as a haven of free speech and a bastion of resistance to sharia encroachment is irreparably tarnished. Denmark is my country and I used to be proud of it. On May 3 the Eastern Superior Court in Copenhagen convicted me of hate speech under Denmark’s infamous Article 266 b of the penal code – a rubber provision that may be stretched to serve any political purpose dear to the hearts of the ruling elites. My crime is to have called attention to the horrific conditions of Muslim women and for my audacity the court has now enabled my detractors to label me a racist. Muslims can say whatever they want with impunity. Just a few weeks ago Denmark opened its gates to the hate-spewing preacher Bilal Philips, known for his advocacy of wife-beating and the killing of homosexuals. He was provided a platform in Copenhagen and nobody thought of dragging him into court. Our authorities and their allies among the pc elites have chosen sides in the struggle between the forces of freedom and the forces of darkness and so opted for the oppressors of their own people and against those deserving of their protection. The real victims of this despicable case are freedom of speech and the tens of thousands of girls and women – Muslim as well as non-Muslim – whose plight may no longer be mentioned in my country for fear of legal prosecution and public denigration. We cannot permit this outcome to stand. I have therefore decided to appeal my conviction to the Supreme Court and – if that is denied – to the European Court of Human Rights. This is a fight for liberty against tyranny. It will be long and hard but losing is no option.

MUSLIMS ATTACK, BURN CHURCHES, SLAUGHTERING CHRISTIANS IN EGYPT, 12 DEAD, HUNDREDS HURT

Cairo, Egypt -- Six people were killed and 120 injured in sectarian clashes outside a church in Cairo on Saturday, officials said.
An angry group of Muslim Salafists attacked the Saint Mena Coptic Orthodox Church. They were upset over reports of a woman being held against her will after allegedly converting to Islam.
"With my own eyes I saw three people killed and dozens injured," said Mina Adel, a Christian resident. "There's no security here. There's a big problem. People attacked us, and we have to protect ourselves."
Egyptian Interior Ministry spokesman Alla Mahmoud said in a statement that six people were killed and 120 injured in the violence.
Authorities sent soldiers and police to help secure the area.
Tensions have risen this year between Egypt's Muslim majority and its Coptic minority.
A Coptic church in the town of Alexandria was bombed on New Year's Day, killing 23 people. The Palestinian Islamic Army, which has links to al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for what was the deadliest attack on Christians in Egypt in recent times.
Ten days later, a gunman killed a Christian man and wounded five other Christians on a train in Egypt.
In November, a group with ties to al Qaeda in Iraq announced that all Christians in the Middle East would be "legitimate targets," as the group's deadline for Egypt's Coptic church to release alleged Muslim female prisoners expired.
The group's claim that the Coptic Church in Egypt is holding female prisoners is based on widespread rumors of Coptic women in Egypt converting to Islam and being detained by the church in an attempt to compel or persuade them to return to their original faith....

Many of us, myself in particular, were repulsed and outraged by the revelation that the US military was forced to bury Osma bin Laden according to Islamic precepts, and that it was the priority of the Obama administration that it be done right -- much preparation was made prior to the kill. They couldn't decide on releasing the pictures prior to the kill, but studying Islamic texts and preparing for an Islamic burial, that was what the Obama administration deemed important.
The idea that we, as Americans, supported, endorsed and recited "allahu akbar" loudly four times on the back of the USS Carl Vinson as a part if his funeral would disgust most Americans.

RHAPSODY ON AN OPEN THREAD
UNEMPLOYMENT SPIKES, UP .2 POINTS IN APRIL
For more information...PoliticoUS: MUSLIM AMERICAN SOCIETY (MAS) OFFICIAL: BIN LADEN A "VISIONARY"
A leader of a major American Muslim organization, the Muslim American Society (MAS), is arguing that there "was nothing wrong with" Osama bin Laden's dream of creating a renewed Caliphate. Khalilah Sabra's comments are the most recent and worrisome from the group, which has a long history of defending alleged terrorists.
Her statement doesn't defend bin Laden's terror attack on 9/11. But it does laud his vision of an Islamic state and his desire to "liberate" the Afghani people.
"He was a visionary who believed in the possibility of an Islamic state in Afghanistan and the possibility that this thing might someday be," Sabra wrote. "There was nothing wrong with that dream, even if it differs from that one that all Americans have here for themselves."
In 1997, bin Laden described his vision of a Muslim leader "who can unite them and establish the 'pious caliphate.' The pious caliphate will start from Afghanistan" and spread from there.
Bin Laden "was not the same man who came to fight against the occupation" by the Russian army, she wrote, but still cast his example in positive terms: "With his wealth and ability, he could have done almost anything he wanted to do. At that time he supported the anti-occupation forces by providing housing for the thousands of volunteers who converged on the small border town on the edge of Pakistan. At that time, Osama Bin Laden cared unrelentingly about the Afghan Muslim children in the same way he cared about his own children, and believed in the right to liberate the Afghan people from their Russian aggressors, who raped innocent women and who tried to destroy the country in order to control a country they did not have rights over."
Other MAS officials have expressed more supportive statements about bin Laden's death.
"Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader; he was a mass murderer of Muslims," said MAS President Ahmad El Bendary. "Indeed, al Qaeda has slaughtered scores of Muslims in many countries, including our own. We concur with the president that his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity."
MAS was founded as an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States and has a record of supporting alleged terrorists and terror financiers. Three of its founders were listed in a telephone book of American Muslim Brotherhood leaders.
Several Brotherhood leaders have denounced the U.S. raid killing bin Laden, referring to bin Laden with the honorary term "sheik," and defending "resistance" against American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Other MAS leaders have defended violence. The Investigative Project on Terrorism captured former President Esam Omeish on videotape at a 2000 rally praising Palestinians for knowing "the jihad way is the way to liberate your land."
Similarly, the head of MAS's political wing, the MAS Freedom Foundation can be seen raising a fist in agreement at a separate 2000 rally in response to a call to show support for Hamas and Hizballah. In addition, Mahdi Bray traveled to Egypt in 2008 to attend a vigil in support of Brotherhood officials on trial.
Bray and his organization have backed a series of alleged terrorists and terror financiers over the years. Among them, Abdurrahman Alamoudi, who pleaded guilty to illegal financial transactions with Libya and aiding a plot to assassinate a Saudi crown prince; and Sami Al-Arian, a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad's governing board.
Both cases were dismissed by MAS as trumped-up cases of anti-Muslim bias by the government.
Sabra exhibited that reflexive response following the 2009 indictment of North Carolina Muslim convert Daniel Patrick Boyd and six other men. Boyd was accused of being leader the group – which included two of his sons – in a desire to wage jihad against American soldiers abroad and talked of striking targets in America when their original plan failed to materialize. Though officials had an insider and recordings, Sabra cast the case as "an illusion. Either the defendants have created an illusion, or the agents have created an illusion, but the reality has yet to be seen."
In February, Boyd pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and conspiracy to murder, kidnap, maim, and injure persons in a foreign country.
Sabra has said she met Boyd in Afghanistan 20 years earlier, during the fight against the Russians. That's when bin Laden attracted the "thousands of volunteers" Sabra mentions in her article.
They became the core of al-Qaida and the leadership of terrorist organizations around the world. Sabra's connection to these volunteering mujahideen, or holy warriors, dates back to her own experiences working for bin Laden's predecessor, jihadist ideologue Abdullah Yusuf Azzam.
Azzam spoke at Sabra's mosque near UCLA in 1988, a 2008 article in Gulf Times reported. "Sabra was
impressed and eventually agreed to go with him to Afghanistan," the article said. "For about a year, Sabra lived in Peshawar, Pakistan, and made regular trips to nearby Afghan refugee camps."
Azzam is considered a founding father both of Hamas and of al-Qaida. The Gulf Times article describes him as "the godfather of jihad."
In her article, Sabra lamented the price Muslims have paid for bin Laden's terror, including a rise in anti-Muslim sentiment, the Patriot Act and the creation of the Department of Homeland Security.
"Osama Bin Laden singlehandedly undid some of the most significant Islamic work done in America," she wrote, "and disseminated the rights of Muslims here and forced the world to ignore the rights of our other brothers and sisters on the other side of the world. He knew there was a price to pay for his actions and ideas. He paid. I do not believe that any human being relished the terror and the loss of blood that came with his death, but most believe he would not have wanted to be arrested, brought to America and tried in our courts of law. In the end, he died on his own terms."EGYPT: "FREEDOM LOVERS" MARCH ON ISRAEL EMBASSY CALLING FOR END OF PEACE DEAL: ISRAEL SHOULD AGREE TO "LIVE UNDER ISLAMIC RULE"

DAVID YERUSHALMI: WARRIOR FOR FREEDOM
UCLA: PROTESTING REZA AND RAUF, THE ENEMY WITHIN, IN DEFENSE OF AMERICA
Last night, (May 4) Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf appeared at UCLA's Royce Hall. I would estimate about five hundred people attended including myself. Also appearing as moderator was Reza Aslan, a young Iranian-American, who is an advisory board member of a group called National Iranian-American Committee, which is known as an apologist group for the Islamic regime in Iran and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Aslan has been quoting calling Ahmadinejad a "liberal reformer".
Rauf spoke for about 15 minutes, then was joined by Aslan, who posed a series of questions to him. In addition, three persons chosen previously gave their own questions from the front of the audience. They were a Christian pastor, a rabbi and a young woman from CAIR. I will describe their "questions" later. During the presentation, index cards were passed out to the audience to write down questions, collected and taken up to Aslan for his perusal and selection. (He only selected a couple out of dozens collected.) Often, while Rauf was answering Aslan's questions, Aslan would be reading through the cards rather than paying attention to the answers.
I should note at the outset that Rauf (in my view) is a very smooth operator. He has a soft-spoken, gentlemanly manner and comes across as a cross between Mohatma Gandhi and the Dalai Lama. He speaks in very spiritual terms about following God and loving eaxh other. Yet he said many things that I think are noteworthy. I did not record, so I am paraphrasing his statements except where I put quotation marks. The audience appeared to be mostly sympathetic to Rauf.
In his opening remarks, Rauf commented briefly on the death of Usama bin Laden and remarked that the time had come for (certain) Muslims to reject the notion that terrorism could work for Muslims.
He accused "the popular media" of associating Muslims with terrorism.
He stated and (later repeated) that we must reject the extremists who had hijacked all of our religions (Islam, Christianity and Judaism).
He also referred to the false perception by the media that religions are at war and that in his travels to Islamic countries, he observes that Muslims, by and large, love America and our values of freedom.
Aslan, in his opening remarks to Rauf, and in condemning terrorism, remarked that it is not found in the Koran, nor in the Hadith. He then talked about public opinion polls showing that some 50% of Americans have a negative view of Islam and that 25% believe that President Obama is a Muslim. He said that US Muslims work overtime to dispell anti-Islamic images, but that anti-Muslim sentiment remains high in the US.
Rauf stated that a sector of American society is Islamophobic and "seeks to attack Islam". He also mentioned what he termed "residual racism" in the US and that some people "cannot accept the fact that we have a black president".
At this point, a young Muslim woman named Tahra Goraya was introduced by Reza. She is with Southern California CAIR and works for California State Senator Carol Liu. She stepped up to a microphone in front and asked a softball question, which was so benign I didn't bother to write it down.
Rauf went on to repeat the theme that "we need a coalition" of moderates of all 3 religions to combat the extremists of those religions" (Islam, Christianity and Judaism).
Aslan then said that people always ask him, "Where is the moderate voice of Islam?", and that he had run out of answers (meaning he was exasperated constantly giving all his answers). Again, Rauf blamed the media. "They want blood", but then added, "What if there was a news blackout every time a suicide bomber blew himself up or someone burned a Koran"?
Aslan then asked Rauf about the role of Atheists and Agnostics in building bridges (applause from the audience). Rauf replied that what was important was a set of principles of human equality. He referred to the fact that Thomas Jefferson read the Koran. He then stated that The Declaration of Independence was a "very shariah-compliant document" (laughter from the audience-including me).
Aslan then selected a question from the audience asking about Rauf's reaction to the celebrations seen in the US upon hearing of bin Laden's death. He replied that he understood it, but was concerned it might make bin Laden a martyr.
Next came a question from an Episcopal pastor from Los Angeles, Gwynne Guibord. She began by thanking Rauf for his presence and his "voice of reason". She then asked him for his reaction to the "plethora of misinformation" about violence in the Koran.
Rauf replied by reminding her about the peaceful words that begin every chapter in the Koran (suras). He said that one should not just look at the text, but the context, and that the words were written at different times. He stated that "verses could be misconstrued or taken out of context." It was more important to remember that Mohammed said to practice compassion. He went on to say that, until a century ago, other religions lived in peace under Muslim rule and that Muslims protected the other religions. He mentioned the Ottoman Empire in passing. Only in the past century had Muslims become less tolerant. * This was the only reference made to the persecution of non-Muslims going on in Muslim countries around the world.
Aslan then asked about the Cordoba House project (Ground Zero mosque) and why Cordoba was chosen as a name. He referred to Cordoba as a time (in Spain) of the flowering of cultures and arts as three religions all contributed in peace and harmony until it "was put to a violent end by the Reconquista".
Rauf said the name Cordoba was chosen because it was a name "that would be warm", a time when the relationship between all three religions was good. Scholars came from all over Europe and shared their knowledge and talent. He said he wished to see a Cordoba House "everywhere" -"in other places like Los Angeles".
Then came a progressive Jewish rabbi from Woodland Hills to the microphone, Steven Jacobs. He began by stating, "What an honor", then went on a tirade about the "worst incivility" coming from Rauf's opponents and asked how did he endure it. Rauf stated that he had felt like Jesus being crucified and that someone had gotton his "30 pieces of silver".
Aslan asked him what he "did wrong" (in the Ground Zero mosque project.) Rauf replied that he had done nothing wrong, but the issue had become politicized by the mid-term election and was held hostage by people like Sarah Palin.
Aslan then brought up the subject of women in Islam and their so-called subjugation. He asked about the work Rauf was doing with his wife (Daisy Khan). Rauf referred to some 700 women he was working with on his projects in the Muslim world. He said that the "subjugation" doesn't come from Islam, rather it comes from the culture of the specific societies and that he believes it will change over time. He acknowledged that the Muslim countries were lagging behind the West by "a few decades". He also remarked that two-thirds of the university students in Iran were women. He described female circumcision as a horrible practice that is found in African countries including Egypt, but that it was not Islamic, only that some Muslims thought Islam required it.
Aslan then made a mocking reference to the old question of whether Rauf would condemn Hamas and asked him to state it for the record. Rauf replied in the affirmative and also replied that Israel has a right to exist.
After sligltly less than two hours, Aslan closed the evening.EGYPT: "FREEDOM LOVERS" MARCH TO AMERICAN EMBASSY PROTEST BIN LADEN KILL

NY TIMES, MAY 20, 1876: “BULGARIAN OUTRAGES”
The news from Constantinople is undoubtedly even more serious than it appears. Our readers, not familiar with Oriental countries can hardly appreciate the passion of fanaticism which at times burns in the breasts of the lower classes among the Mohammedans. The majority of these have no idea of the progress made by the Western races, or of the inferiority of their country to other modern States. To them the world is as it was five centuries ago, the better part owned or conquered by the “faithful,” and outside regions permitted to be occupied by pagans, infidels, and Jews. The Sultan only needs to wave to the winds the victorious crescent, and to call upon Allah, and go forth, as BAJAZET before him, and scatter the infidel Christians and erect the rule of the prophet over over the world. In their estimation, a Christian is a being who should only be permitted to exist on sufferance, and the presence of a number of Christians in the capital is unendurable in this time of public danger. These ignorant fanatics, led by the Softas, who are versed in the religious writings of the Musselmans, are eager to renew the golden days of the crescent, and one of their leaders has already offered the Sultan to “lay fifty thousand Christian heads at his feet;” a proposition which report says, made even the “man-slayer” shudder.
The masses believe that it only needs the old war cry of “Allah and His Prophet, and the extermination of the infidels,” to put down the wicked rebellion and place Turkey as it was at the era of the battle of Vossovo. The appointment of a Christian to go to Egypt and secure the Turkish troops there for the present campaign have excited this rabble. They have also demanded and obtained the resignations of the Grand Vizier and the Minister of War. This undoubtedly was caused by the yielding of these officials to a united remonstrance of the representatives of the powers against an invasion of the soil of Montenegro.... The Ottoman Government were just about carrying the war into the Balkan Mountains – a step which might have led to a European war – when the Ambassadors interfered. This interference is bitterly resented by the Mohammedan fanatics.
Now, at every mountain pass leading to the country of the Black Mountains a Turkish company of soldiers, embittered by fanaticism to the last degree, faces a band of Christian peasants, animated by the traditional hate of centuries, and eager for the collision. Turks and Christians pass each other daily in the towns of European Turkey, and it needs but one outburst of savage fanaticism among the softas and rabble of Pera to kindle a flame which shall burn throughout the Empire.
We should not be surprised to hear by any telegram of a massacre of Christians throughout Turkey. It is a mistake to suppose that Mohammedanism is dead. It is lifeless among the higher classes. They understand fully the weakness and danger of Turkey. But the ignorant masses and rabble are capable of the utmost excitement and fanaticism for their religion. The European residents of Pera and Constantinople know perfectly what outbursts occur among this proletariat, and how impossible it is for the Government or any power to repress them. They are naturally in terror and excitement. Any such riot and massacre would, however, only hasten the end. The European powers would then be obliged to interfere. They would authorize, in all probability, an Austrian and Russian occupation of the disturbed districts, and Constantinople would be put under the guns. The fleets of the different powers are already concentrated there....
The crescent must pass from the European skies. The intelligent see that the days of the ancient Empire won by conquests five centuries ago are numbered. Only the ignorant hope to preserve it by arousing fanaticism.Thursday, May 05, 2011
